I am a certified, practicing music teacher with a masters degree. Clarinet is my primary instrument. This is an excellent mouthpiece for the price. Admittedly, it is not the mouthpiece I choose for myself (The tone is a bit bright for me, I prefer a vandoren mouthpiece that runs more like $100). However, for $30, it is a huge upgrade from the stock mouthpiece that your clarinet came with. I recommend this mouthpiece to all my students because it is affordable and you will instantly hear/feel a difference. If you really want to make an even bigger difference- try pairing it with a bonade inverted ligature. And- as I’ve seen many people commenting on this issue- it will fit any standard Bb clarinet. Not sure if that’s what you have? If it’s your kids clarinet from school- I can virtually guarantee it’s a Bb. If you found your clarinet in your closet/attic and have no idea where it came from- there’s still probably a +95% it’s a Bb. ... show more

Bought this to replace the mouthpiece that came with my instrument. I didn't want to spend half the price of the instrument just on a new mouthpiece. After some research, I came across this and figured it was worth a shot. This instantly improved my tone and was easier to play. I want to start by saying sorry on the delay of writing this. my daughter I got 18 months ago. There is reason I waited to review this item. My daughter plays clarinet year around (Marching band,pep band, symphonic band, honors band, solo competitions,etc) so it gets worked out almost daily . She knows her stuff when it comes to brands (she runs a certain brand of reeds, and her certain brand of clarinet). She's VERY happy with her clarinet set up. she insisted on a J and D Hite. I got her that as a gift 18 months ago. It's still hanging in there 18 months later and HEAVY use. I'd recommend J and D Hite to most any clarinet player. my daughter seems to be the expert when it comes to brands and how it should sound. if she says it sounds good then it sounds good . I'm a beginning clarinetist and wanted a bit of an upgraded mouthpiece over the one that came with the clarinet, and this was on a list of suggested mouthpieces for beginners. It did play better and easier than the one I was replacing. But, the way that it fit my instrument and mouth meant that I had to hold the clarinet out/up a lot more. For a lot of people this might not be a problem, but it was very tiring for me as I spend a lot of time practicing. Amazon was great about the return, as usual.     • A good step up
My first mouthpiece beyond the usual plastic comes-with-the-horn type. Felt like a real step up. I could use it at my beginner level, but it's way beyond beginner quality. I haven't felt the need to buy any other. (Yet. We all know I'll succumb to gear lust at some point.)

    • Great Mouthpiece - fits my 20yr old Yamaha!
I broke my original mouthpiece and needed one very quick. I ordered this one with hopes it would work with my 20 year old clarinet. It fits perfectly! It took a few times to get to used to the protective cover on top of the mouthpiece, but I am glad it's there. My other mouthpiece was worn out from playing and had tooth grooves in it. I would have preferred to have a ligature with the mouthpiece since my old one doesn't seem to fit it as well. But it works fine. ... show more

My daughter is a second year band student and her teacher let the clarinet players borrow his mouthpiece to try out. She came home and practiced with it and I could immediately hear the difference! That sound was much better and less airy. She also had a much easier time transitioning to very high and very low notes with no squaking!! I can reach my 3rd ledger line E and higher so much easier. Definitely a good purchase for high school and college players for sure! I’ve been playing for 3 years and it was time for an upgrade.
