I’m not new to the trumpet I played it years ago and was very good. Have been playing the flute professionally for 40+ years. Decided I wanted to get back into the trumpet. I have been playing again for only a little over a month. My upper range was to the c above the staff. When I tried the 3mv my range went to Double E. That being said, I need to practice with my Bach 7c to get up there too. The lower register is also good on the 3mv. The mouthpiece is extreme shallow and has to be gotten used to. To anyone who is like me and doesn't know what a 3MV mouthpiece is, it's basically a 3E but with a pseudo "mega-tone" look to it. It's definitely not a mega-tone but it's not like the classic design either, it's more of an in-between. If you've played on a 3E you know it's pretty easy to play, functions a bit better in my opinion due to the heavier design. technically it's a bigger mouthpiece so it may not fit in the mouthpiece slot in your case (I have Protec's Max case, and it leaves a heavy indent on the top of the case whereas the 351 series of mouthpiece leaves a much lighter indent.) A bit on the expensive side, but considering the extra weight on this style, it makes sense. ... show more

This has replaced my standard Bach 3C on trumpet. It has nice tone, good slotting and is very comfortable. Upper register is still my closet monster, but this has helped get me up there.

For jazz lead and commercial playing this is a terrific mouthpiece. It takes less effort to produce a big sound with sizzling overtones and I found an extra chromatic high note or two become usable for me. Easy to play too loudly with this one. The tone is not as overly brash as are some lead mouthpieces and the tone in the middle and lower registers is still acceptable although not as nice as a standard C or B cup for lower parts. ... show more
