  • Perfectly does what it says on the tin: great heater with accurate temperature probe
Between you and me, the entire internet, I've been sous vide cooking my daughter('s kiddie pool). My daughter loves the water, and cooler weather is pretty common near me. I lost the bid on this gorgeous house with a heated pool (I bid $7 million under asking), so I wanted to find some way to warm my daughter's above ground kiddie pool. My first thought was using the sous vide cooker I had. It actually worked, surprisingly well. That said it felt weird that I was, well, technically cooking my daughter. Also I tend to forget things and was worried I'd leave my cooker outside and ruin it. It's fancy. So I got a standard immersion heater next. What I didn't like there was the lack of temperature control - while these aren't pulling a huge wattage I still wanted to be careful that I don't leave it on or forget it or whatever. After a few days of planning out a little smart controller to build with arduino I realized, quite correctly, someone had probably already solved this problem. And here you go! This has a little temperature probe you stick in the water, you set what temperature you want, and it heats until you get to that temperature. It has a beep alarm once it reaches temp (which you can then turn off). The default water temperature is 104 F (40 degrees C) for some reason, but it's easy enough to change. The temperature probe is reasonably accurate - it was spot on or reasonably close. (There is some expected difference since I'm taking temperatures from different areas of the water, and this doesn't circulate the water.) This is pretty awesome! ... show more

  • great tool to heat up water
I got this in case natural gas becomes turned off and I wanted to take a warm bath. Gas is still flowing so I tested it out in a 55 gallon barrel. The float was nice to keep it floating and I ran it for 30 minutes and noticed that the water getting warmer. It would take more than 30 minutes to heat this cold water but I know this heater works. ... show more

  • Pretty good
It works well I just wore mine out, so be careful with the cord where it connects to the controller box that's where mine came apart.

  • Powerful!!
Very powerful. Heats 5 gallons of water to almost boiling in 10 min or less.

  • Better Than Expected!!!
I personally thought it would take a second to heat up the entire pool, but it wasn’t like that at all. Within an hour it was way hotter than I expected lol Definitely works and definitely recommend

  • Less of a deathtrap than expected; not recommended for home use
The description claims this provides "a safe and constant warming water." Since you simply cannot buy this sort of product from any U.S. seller, much less U.S. manufacturer, I assumed it would be a complete death trap. I was slightly disappointed on that basis, in that the heater does actually have an intact protective earth/ground connection, and all the exposed metal surfaces are connected to ground. If the heating element breaks and becomes exposed to water, theoretically the current will flow back to the ground pin in the power outlet, which will trip the GFCI and prevent fire or injury. Theoretically. DO NOT use this without a functioning GFCI. The earth connection across the circuit board is pretty thin and will probably heat up and fail quickly, and then it's entirely possible the angry pixies will try to escape through the water (or you). So: safety let's say 2/5, better than expected but still way more likely to kill you (or your child, or your pet) than any red-blooded American would normally accept. Temperature control, however, is the problem (and the reason I ended up taking it apart). I hadn't read the description carefully enough. You can program a temperature, but it doesn't really work like you'd expect a thermostat to behave. It will heat up to the target temperature, and then turn off and start BEEPING VERY LOUDLY for a few minutes. If, for example, you're warming up a nice relaxing spa, this is not ideal. Worse, the heater remains off. The text on the device claims that it turns on again after the temperature falls by 9F/5C, but I didn't test that. That's a big temperature swing, from "nice relaxing spa" to "tepid." So: not recommended for home use, for all sorts of reasons. Get an Inkbird or other standalone temperature controller and a separate heating element instead. (I took this one apart, wired the heating element straight to a plug, threw out the thermostat, and connected the heater to an Inkbird. Works fine, but there's no reason to buy this if that's what you plan to do!) ... show more

  • Brakes after a couple days of use
I used this to supplement the heater on my Jacuzzi. It only works good for heating small amounts of water and if you don’t use it often. After one day, it’s stopped heating even though it said it was on.

  • 20 minutes = 5gal H2O from 69 to 95 degrees
Yes, it heats up water. But all the instructions were not easy to follow. Temperature sensor was not mentioned anywhere except on the back of the thermostat/control. Control was confusing because there's a delay start feature that was not clearly explained. After finally figuring out the settings, it did not stop heating after the set temperature was reached. You are not supposed to leave this immersion unattended when in use but it takes 20 minutes to heat up 5 gallons of water and 3 hours to heat up 30 gallons in a bathtub. Who has that much free time? ... show more
