We ordered this dehydrator because it was on sale during the Amazon Prime Days event. Within one day of it's arrival we were making our first batch of beef jerky, which is what I primarily bought this for. The machine is large and needs a flat, level space near a wall outlet because the cord is not very long. We have it placed on a small kitchen table near our stove. After turning it on, setting the temperature (which is easy to adjust with push buttons on top) it was ready to go - and MUCH quieter than I anticipated. I am presenting sitting our our living room - one room away - and it's running and I can't hear it. The other surprise was that it did not raise the temperature much while it was running, although we do tend to use it in the later part of the day and evening. Our first batch of jerky utilized all six trays. I set the temperature at the top temperature (158) and let it run for 5 hours. The top round was thin sliced to less than 1/4 inch - I had frozen the meat first to thinly slice and marinate overnight. 5 hours did it, everything was dried with nice cross hatches on the meat from the wire racks. Nice touch! I would recommend, however, lightly greasing the trays before use, because it was hard on a few racks to peel the meet off without losing a piece of the dried meat. I have yet to dry chicken liver (that is coming next because it will save me a fortune on dog treats) and fruits. It comes with a fruit roll tray so I am looking at recipes now so I can make my own fruit roll up with summer fruit. I can heartily recommend this dehydrator! Quite, effective, six trays and easy to move out of the way when not in use. It's light enough that I can carry it without asking for my husband's help. It is much lighter than comparable high end machines, but it gets the job done very effectively and in short time. It's my favorite purchase from Prime Days! ... show more

Correction--the unit I had had plastic trays, and "Liked this unit until at 13.5 months it started shorting out--could not change time or temp w/o the unit shutting off--spooky. Notified the company. Was told to ship it back ($30+?) and they would evaluate it for a minimum charge of $69.95!!! New, the unit costs $99.00. Do NOT buy!!!" The unit itself is great...however, I find the lack of usage information very discerning, especially for a beginner. There are no temp and time charts included, the manual is very disappointing. Thus, the 4 star review.

Nice inexpensive dehydrator. Do pay attention to the dimensions though, as this was deeper back to front than I expected (17.75" deep) so I had to place it on a different countertop than I was planning to. No biggie, as it is lightweight and easy to move around as needed. For the space-constrained like me, I appreciate that the front cover comes completely off as opposed to other designs that have a door that swings open. Functionally, it's everything I expected and works well. Automatic shutoff timer is a huge plus. I haven't had it long enough to comment on durability, but the build quality seems good. I wish it came with fruit leather sheets but at this price point I guess I can't complain. ... show more

Yes, it is quiet, has all the features, performs very well. I have to rotate the top to the bottom once during a full rack session. Using parchment paper for fruit leather probably interferes with air flow. Leathers are huge hit with extended family. Trying something of everything. Cherries, potatoes, apples, plums, old canned applesauce I had made a few years ago. Frozen fruits work well. No advice whatsoever from the company included with the dehydrator. Very nice dehydrator. Used it for many foraged and garden grown foods. Quiet operation, but we kept it out in the garage because your house will smell like whatever you are drying. Spicy peppers = spicy air! Sometimes it is a little clunky to move the racks in and out and add/check food. Just have a clean surface in front of the unit so you can collect any items that fall through the racks. ... show more

If I could give 0 stars I would! It worked for less than 1 month! Numerous requests for assistance from the seller with NO response other than to ask for a picture which was sent over and over!!! Looks fine but DOES NOT WORK!!!
