  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Included hardware description and CANNOT WAIT TO USE THIS AGAIN!
I finally got to try out my Deeper flexible arm mount. Unfortunately it doesn't have instructions included, but was easy to figure out! The only reason I wish I had some instruction was to know what some of the included hardware was for; I have the answers for you! It includes hardware to mount to special kayak rails and it also includes a lanyard (which I address at the bottom) to keep your SONAR safe. It was very easy to install; it simply clamps to the rail/edge of your boat. The flexible arm *really* has a lot of range of motion. I found that the trick to having this work as well as possible is to have it angled so that the deeper pivoting mount is in-line with your motion/the motion of the waves(see the picture on the front of the box). This way, the deeper will easily adjust it's height above the water to keep good contact. **MAKE SURE YOU USE THE INCLUDED LANYARD.** At first I couldn't imagine why I would need it since the deeper unit attaches very securely to the arm. It finally dawned on me. The point of the lanyard is just in case you happen to knock the arm off of your boat and it falls in the water. The clamp attaches to the side of the boat very well, but that doesn't mean accidents can't happen. The arm is made out of sturdy materials and WILL NOT FLOAT. This means if you knock it loose and it falls in, you will lose your deeper SONAR & your mount. The lanyard simply attaches to the top screw mount of the deeper sonar and you tie the other end off to your boat or wear it on your wrist. While unlikely, if the arm gets knocked off from running into trees/getting snagged/having foolish friends, this eliminates all possibilities of losing your favorite fishing device. 5 stars all around! ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Transom Mounted...
More like 3.5 stars for my use case (transom mounted application on an inflatable dinghy style boat). For this purpose, I think it's a bit on the flimsy side. Not cheap or fragile, just not rigid enough for my liking. This is more because of the flexible shaft component, not the clamp or wave rider components (those seem good). I ultimately used the wave rider part, along with a "scotty" clamp and transducer arm for a more rigid solution. Consequently, you can buy the wave rider part separately direct from Deeper for about $18. ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars It’s weird.
Works as advertised for kayaks but the way that I rigged it, the screwy bits keep unscrewing just a little bit. Zero risk of loosing the equipment, just keeps adjusting is all. Minor complaint, YMMV.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Works on my canoe
I have a Wenonah canoe, and I mount this on the thwart. It has enough reach to get in the water While it the fish finder to pop up when I'm paddling or in waves, I think it's because of the way I have it positioned. I've used it for a couple months...maybe 8-10 times...and it has held up well early on. Hoping it doesn't rust over time. Will see. If I could make it better in one way, I would make it so the fish finder extension has more (2x) vertical travel. ... show more

  • 2.0 out of 5 stars It's okay, but probably not worth the $ for most of my uses
I was super excited to get this mount connected to my pontoon boat to eliminate having to cast the sonar out and monopolize a pole or use a rope and screw around with pulling it back in. First, the directions are non-existent, other than a few non-descript pictures. Box includes a square nut and washer for which I had no idea what the purpose was. Reading reviews here I learned it's for mounting to a kayak? Not being called out in the instructions or "what's included" was frustrating, since I didn't know if I was supposed to be using those some how to ensure the deeper was properly attached to the arm. The c-clamp isn't great. It's a weird shape for it's size, giving me limited options that are narrow enough to clamp onto & close enough to the water to get the deeper consistently floating. I also think the ends of the clamp are too small as tiny circles. My mounting location ended up being off the side of one of the pontoons, and when moving at all, the sideways force on the clamps seemed like it would result in the clamp coming undone at some point. Moving with the clamp attached ended up being a moot point, since I had zero success keeping my deeper pro from completely submerging when moving (even barely above idle), which resulted in a loss of connection and not capturing any data. The pivoting arm seems to only be effective at keeping the deeper above water when bobbing while stationary. Maybe if moving at a truly glacial pace in a canoe or kayak you could keep it above water, but my pontoon literally couldn't go slow enough to prevent it from submerging. The flexible arm is, in my opinion, too flexible. When making adjustments so the deeper is floating on the pivot arm the flexible arm would move several inches after finishing adjustments. bending over the side of the pontoon to make adjustments only to let go and see the arm is now forcing the deeper underwater was super frustrating. The screws of the different parts also did not have tight tolerances. I spent far too much time trying to correct for thinking I was about to cross thread the screws before realizing I just had to "force them" into place by screwing harder. Paying as much as I did for a fairly simple machine I would expect more accuracy in the manufacturing of these parts. I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 because this MIGHT be more useful than me pulling the deeper behind me on my canoe using some rope. All in all, I'm super disappointed. I bought my deeper because I fish from a lot of different locations (different boats, shore, docks, etc.) and liked the versatility it provides. I had similar expectations that the flex arm would provide versatility to easily mount my deeper to multiple boats, but that has not been my experience. The pivoting arm is a novel idea and seems like it could be useful for people who solely want to mount their deeper to a kayak, canoe or other turtle paced vehicle, but at the price I wouldn't buy it again. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Sooo much better than using a fishing pole on a boat
I use my Deeper on a small boat on some small lakes. The first dozen times I used my Deeper, I used an extra fishing pole and dragged the Deeper along the side of the boat. Over a certain speed, though, the deeper would tilt and throw off the readings UNLESS I actually stuck the rod tip a foot or so into the water. I have used this Deeper mount a couple of times now, and my mapping results and underwater view have improved dramatically. The mount forces the Deeper unit to stay untilted (is that a word?) in the water. At a certain speed (i.e. 5mph) the Deeper unit will stay under that water, but my WIFI signal is fine, so not an issue. I love the adjustability of the mounting apparatus, and use the tether so I don't worry about it coming loose (though it doesn't loosen at all during use). Very happy with this. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect!!!
This fit perfectly on my kayak. I like the fact that I can adjust as I go. The attached photo is of me launching. See how I have it up out of the water. But as soon as I am safely in the deep water I can drop it in.
