  • Lousy imposter of the original
Style: Regular C-Clamp
These clamps were the best in the industry. I can no longer say that. After purchase and realizing they did not perform as well as my old clamps, I looked them up and found that the vise grip brand was sold to China. They are likely using lesser material. These clamps are a sad imposter of the original. They never seem to be the same from one use to the next. Constant adjustment. And don't have that iron grip that they were known for. I'll be looking for better ones. ... show more

  • Not like my older Vise-Grip. Knock-off, or drop in Irwin quality
Style: Regular C-Clamp
I recently bought two of these for my work. After a couple weeks' use, I have noticed they are not holding up well, the handles are misaligned, and the adjustment screws are not as easy to turn as they should be. Suspicious, I compared them to the same model of clamp I bought from Lowe's about 4 years ago. Either these newer (but inferior) clamps were manufactured in a different country, or they are complete knockoffs. The "11R" stamp is shallow and muddled (not crisp like a my older quality-made Irwin clamp), the finish is different (and in my line of work, welding, these have picked up A LOT of bb's, whereas the old clamp has NONE.) Also, the handles do not line up with the jaws. I hope Irwin has not switched manufacturers, because if they have, it may be time to find a different brand that cares more about quality. You sometimes hear about companies "cheapening" certain items to sell to big-box stores for cheap, and this may also be the case. I will look at the 11R's next time I'm at a hardware store to see what I find. I usually trust Amazon and Irwin, but for this item it may be best to go somewhere to touch before buying. ... show more

  • Feels pretty cheap out of the packaging, a lot of play and rattle.
Style: Regular C-Clamp
I bought this because I like buying tools and would like to use it around the house and for the occasional automotive repair. I've used many sets of Vise Grips throughout the years and they've always been incredibly useful tools and of pretty good quality. This thing just feels like junk. There's a ton of side-to-side movement and rattle to the tool. Everything about it just feels cheap. The tips will also move about 1/8in back and forth which means when you really crank it down it flexes quite a bit. Maybe I just got a lemon, but I think I'll probably put it back in the packaging and return it because I'm simply not happy with the quality. In fairness to the tool, it does clamp down pretty tight. ... show more

  • Hit or miss, I own * pairs, three from amazon have bent jaws right out of the box
Style: NEW
These are very handy with great hold but the last few I received from amazon had bent/ misaligned jaws, you cant even open them with one hand. Even the replacement they sent had bent jaws. Went to Lowes and picked up a pair that lined up perfectly. I suspect amazon is selling rejects. Order them but check them before you use them. ... show more

  • Garbage delivery packing
Style: Regular C-Clamp
The product is not bad, I’ve bought these in the past and it really is hit or miss as far as quality. Sometimes you get good production and other times you have to call Irwin and complain at how bad the quality is. Bought 4 of these and this far they appear decent. The packaging they arrived in was absolute garbage. The clamps were thrown in a box with no packaging separating them and they arrived beat to crap. I know they will get beat up anyway, but I want to be the one that beats them up- not the place I bought them from. ... show more

  • These are the standard setters.
Style: Regular C-Clamp
As a sheet metal worker and welding fitter, I used these day in, day out. I own four other brands of these, and have between the lot of them over a dozen. These are not the best, but they are the best for the money. They are solidly made, clamp tightly, and have a great fit and finish. They may lack some of the fancier features, but they aren’t hard to fabricate into these if you’ve got some spare time and steel. I highly recommend welding a ring on the adjustment knob so they can be cranked down when you need to. These are great tools for anyone in the metalworking trades. ... show more

  • Not genuine quality
Style: Regular C-Clamp
Honestly if you weld stay far away from these. I’ve bought five pairs, and they attract spatter like magnets. After a month of tacking pieces together these things are in rough shape. One doesn’t turn anymore, the rest look like a cactus. Guessing this is an Amazon quality issue (which I’ve seen in the past) where they are not the same quality as store bought. Highly disappointed. I’ve seen pairs of these that are a year old, five years old, and 20 years old and mine are junk within a month. ... show more

  • Irwin Vise Grips - Junk
Style: Regular C-Clamp
I have use Vise Grip brand since about 1983 and have always loved the product. I am a welder by trade and use these tools everyday all day. I don't know when Irwin took over and maybe they have always had it but there name appears on the product now where I don't remember it being on there in years past. Never liked other brands especially cheap ones from where ever. I don't know when materials changed but they are not the same. Every once in a while weld splatter might stick on the clamps. Rarely unless you were welding right next to the tips. Now just being within inches splatter sticks like a b...h. Also about the only gripe that I can remember about the old days is once in a while you would lose a spring and either dealt with it or buy additional springs. The rivets that hold the cross bar break. I will be looking for another brand. They maybe more expensive I don't know. ... show more
