I bought 8 sets of these, and found it a little frustrating that Amazon limits you to 3 items per week. I had to make 3 separate orders on three different weeks. Everything was packaged very nicely. The aluminum wings are very fragile and the edges are very sharp, so be careful when you're putting this stuff together, which you can put together with no tools. I bought separate bulbs, but I'm glad they came with extras. If my bulbs ever go out, I have 8 spares. The extra hangers were great for the cool tubes, but I found myself with a box of spare timers. After a few days in the vegetative cycle, I experienced a dead ballast. Since I registered my products (as instructed to do so with the literature that comes with the package), the RMA process was easy to deal with. They e-mail you a link where you can fill out your RMA online. Once they receive the request, they send you another e-mail with a UPS shipping label that's prepaid. Just print it out, and ship the ballast back to them (no charge, other than going to the post office) and they send it back. Unfortunately it took about two and a half weeks, of which 10 days were in my flower cycle. I am fortunate enough to have 7 other lights in my room, so it wasn't much of a difference but if that were my only ballast, I'd have been left without a light for 19 days, hence my 4-star rating. On the good side, since I did receive different lots of packages over three weeks, I did notice that six of my sets were of an older lot where the aluminum wings are different and the edges of the cool tube were sharp. The other two I received had powder-coated and beaded edges, and the tubes themselves were about 2.5" longer, including the wings. This tells me that they've been making improvements to their product. Altogether, I'm very happy with this product and I would highly recommend it to anyone who reads this. They have a website too where they offer sealed reflector hoods and charcoal filters. Definitely the most competitive prices on the market, so be sure to get yourself one of these kits! ... show more

I was hesitante to purchase this kit, as it seemed the deal was unbelievable. I must say that it has exceeded my expectations! I had originally purchased a new Lumatek dimmable ballast, which arrived and did not functional AT ALL, new out of the box. To say the least, I was highly disappointed and read that many others had been experiencing problems with Lumatek, even though they are more expensive than any other and have such a good reputation. So, I decided to give this kit a try based on the reviews. The ballast is very light, small, and wisper quiet! I love the fan-air cooled feature! This will really help to keep tempurature down and hopefully help to get a long life from the ballast. The Cool Tube reflector is great as well, and the rope ratchets are wonderful! I already had one set and I can not live without them! They make life much easier and can actually be used for many handy things around the home and garden. The only component that I can not comment upon is the lamp/bulb that was included. I honestly have not taken it out of the package, as I prefer to use a high PAR output lamp. I will keep this one around as a spare though, and edit my review if I do use it. All in all, I am completely satisfied with the purchase of this kit and would highly recommend it to friends! Ballast quit working after about 3 months. Tried a "Warehouse deal" on a returned and tested model. It would only stay lit for about 2 in. and quit. Guess I really bought a light fixture.Fixture is only adequit. Also purchased a Yescom cool tube as well. It is a much better choice as the wings mount to the fixture and not just a strap to blalnce it on. Kinda a bad deal. I bought two kits, one is still functioning. ... show more

Excellent product for the money. Have been using this brand for 6 years and they work great.Have burnt a couple out and found you should blow them out with compressed air every once in a while.Have 20 of them running most days.

    • Good light for the small time low budget grower.
I really like this light for the price, but don't expect to get more the a few plants under this light. That is just the nature of cool tubes. I was dumb and did my research after. The curved glass messes with the light and I found this to give a narrow field of light with a really hot bright spot in the center. That is no fault of this item, just cool tubes in general. The hood itself was well built, but the socket was a bit loose and I found the bulb sagging a bit. I had to bend it up a bit and then screw in the bulb again, this seemed to set the socket in place. Have not had problems yet, but I am keeping an eye on it. All the accessories are great and well built and easy to use. The ballast it wonderful and it stays very cool. Made for beginners, just plug and go. The ballast does all the work. The dimmer works great for turning down the lights on your younger plants. ... show more
