Description

A blue light indicates the SPD unit is ON and a green light indicates surge protection is active. I purchased this after a lightning strike damaging around $6,000 worth of our electronics. I am hoping this will assist in any future power surges. Although I do understand a power surge is luck of the draw when it comes to damaging various items in your house. For the price this is worth a shot! Very easy install, probably not a project for every DIY'er... But anybody that has basic experience with wiring can install this. You are going to need an additional double pole breaker for your style of breaker box, and it's not included in this package for obvious reasons. Depending on your install and construction of your house, the pigtails included to tie into your main electrical panel maybe too short. I choose to flush mount my surge protector, because of a combination of things the pigtails were too short. This is my only complaint of this product. In general easy install and looks great. I like the idea of the replaceable modules should you get a power surge. The only drawback I see is at some point the modules may not be available. Overall good product and as of now worth the purchase just for peace of mind.

This surge protector is awesome. I live in southwest Florida which is the lighting capital of the U.S. so having a reliable whole house surge protector is a must. It protects everything hooked up to your electrical grid. I had my neighbor install it as he is a certified electrician that owns his own residential and commercial electrical business. He said he was extremely impressed with the device and that this is the future of surge protectors. Unlike other whole house surge protectors this device can be reused after an electrical surge. You simply change out the effected modules and move on with your day. You do not have to be an electrician to change out the effected modules, you simply pull the compromised module out and snap the new module into place. All the other types of surge protectors require you to replace the whole device which can be costly because you have to not only have to buy another whole house surge protector but then hire an electrician to install it. There are lights on the front of the surge protector that indicate if the modules are protecting your home or is in need of replacement. It could not be simpler. I rated it low on "Easy of Install" only because this install is not for the faint of heart or those not skilled with electrical. This is not a do it yourself/no skills job. Now too the good stuff. The technical reviews of this product are great. Amazon price is good. The module setup means a $45 replacement once a mod goes. Since I have purchased a spare mod, my electrically challenged wife can replace a module if I'm travelling. Our interior service panel is in the garage. I attached two pictures showing the LED indicators in both light and dark. They are bright and easy to see when the status of module changes. This is important so the homeowner is aware of status and can take the appropriate steps. My install involved cutting conduit access holes in both the unit and the installed interior electrical panel to facilitate a straight on, shortest straight wire connection to the first two poles. This involved rerouting the wiring within the unit. 08/15/2019 installed. Once a mod goes, I'll add to this review so buyers know how long the mods lasts. I live in FL and all circumstances are unique. I will also update after six months or so of protection. Our home setup includes electrical service on the exterior of our home, directly opposite of our interior panel that has a small primary panel that services outside items like the AC Condenser, outdoor kitchen, etc. I installed a weatherproof Intermatic AG3000 to the exterior panel as some additional protection for the limited outside items. Inside electronics were my primary concern. The AG3000 is a disposable unit so no pods on that one.

Well engineered and well built surge protector. I used one in my home in the Virgin Islands for several years where there were many surges from lightning strikes, and the deviced worked well. I recently installed a device in my home in Nashville. Don't forget to order a spare cartridge. The best thing about the device is that when there is a electrical surge, only one or even all of the three sacrificial cartiridges have to be replaced, not the entire device. No need for rewiring a new device, simply snap in the new cartridges. Great value for a device to protect your expensive electronics in your home.

Wanted to wait a while before writing this review. Now I have. Southern Mississippi thunderstorms, if you have not experienced one, are the kinds of events that foster deep theological reflection and increased church attendance. During the restoration of our 150 year-old historic home, a very expensive, very complex, and ultra-efficient system of 19 mini-split units replaced a garbage adhoc collection of HVAC parts that evolved over the years. The LG system was very efficient (cooled 5200 sq ft home in July and Aug for under $200 per month) but overly susceptible to lightning. Every thunderstorm was followed by a service call. System under warranty, but service calls were $300 per visit. Multiply that by 6-10 service calls per month, it added up quickly. Contractor installed this unit on main, and it ended. Zero service calls, zero outages in two years. I am sold on this product. Also protect a house full of computers, electronics and recording equipment including older tube amplifiers. I recommend professional installation, but a 5-star product in every sense.

Intermatic IG2240-IMSK Advanced Surge Protection with Easy Maintenance - Intermatic Smart Guard IG2240-IMSK Whole Home Surge Protector, Black was my choice after doing research on different whole house protector. On the installation I mounted it 6 inches away from my panel, used Wocloer Liquid-Tight Conduit to secure the wiring. I have a Square D panel that I installed the Intermatic IG2240-IMSK Advanced Surge Protection into. The only negative was that the White wire was almost too short to make the connection. If it had been the length of the black wires, it would have been a little easier. Overall, it was an easy install following the simple four wire connections. Two blacks to breaker, Ground to the ground and White to the other bus.
