  • A good CPU that does anything you need
Built my first computer and this was a huge upgrade from the 10th gen. It handles everything I throw at it and I heard the cpu can be hit so got those thermal Contact Frame. Which was thankfully easy to install as it just changing what holds the cpu. It runs at a steady 30-35C on idle and reaches 40-45 on light gaming. Which works great for my purpose as I don’t do anything too intense. So should last me a while. I’ve had my computer for a few months and it has been going well. I was able to upgrade the Bios and everything has went great. Which I think is also what helps. Consider this CPU quite reliable and has good warranty that can be used. ... show more

  • still fast, reliable, and competitive
After 2.5 years, this processor is still amazing and seems like a great deal now. With memory becoming impossible to procure at any reasonable price, savings anywhere in PC building seems worth it. The entire line of 12th gen intel CPU's were one of their last extremely stable and reliable series, with the 13th and 14th gens having various post-production issues. This i9-12900KF chip in particular runs a bit hot (at least mine does ~45-50C idle on stock), but I've been able to easily undervolt it to more reasonable temperatures (~35-40C idle) while on both stock and overclocked settings (air cooled w/ thermalright peerless assassin 120 SE). For the last year, I've only been undervolting though as I've been more than satisfied with its capability in both multi-tasking scenarios and gaming. From video recording and editing; virtualized programming environments; to playing modern games on both windows and linux - this chip is more than capable and I do not feel close to needing an upgrade yet. ... show more

  • One of the best cpus
12 monster cores, a absolute beast for any situation. After 1 year of use, it’s never failed or overheated. Scores very high in gaming and workbench performance. Heavily recommend.

  • price/performance and a little older! price/performance and a little older!
Update: August 25, 2024: New case and OLED upgrade makes this overall PC upgrade even better. The display is the LG Ultra Gear 27GS95QE. The case is the NZXT H6 Flow. Added some extra pictures to display the new style...along with a clean look and some Diorama fun, courtesy of the fish-tank style case...YOOOO JOE! COOOOOBRAAAAAAA LALALAL! The i9 12900KF is still holding strong and usage stays nice and low in games while the GPU usage is maxed out, the sweet spot for no bottle necking. After a year, I definitely still recommend this cpu with the addition of the cpu bracket especially since the 13th and 14th gen are non failures as of this date. Good luck with what ever you choose! Picked this cpu up in August 2023. I upgraded from an i7 4770K to this beast. The i7 4770k was still capable, but honestly I wanted RCPS3 to run better because their getting closer to 75% of the library being playable. Also, I could tell my 8gb of g-skill sniper ram was holding me back and i could not for the life of me find 16gb of ram available that would run with trusted compatibility with my current board. The i9 12900kf hardly touches 20% usage for any new game and older games are even less usage while the video card sits at 99-100% usage, this is the sweet spot for no bottle necking and high performance. The video card is an RTX 2060 Super @ 1440P on Dell's 32" monitor S3220DGF. With zero brightness and contrast at a hundred, the colors pop. I'd say comparable to OLED with those settings or at least IPS. The CPU is paired with the Z690 Strix motherboard and 32gb of Corsair vengeance ram. 32gb is the sweet spot. I watched a Linus Tech Tip video that said 8gb is good enough but when I run MSI afterburner along with Riva Tuner-statistics , the ram usage is usually between 10 and 12gb's used and sometimes as high as 14gb, with no known programs of mine running in the background. Perhaps we definitely passed the 8gb minimum by now. Itunes, Video Proc Converter, RPCS3, and Virtual DJ are some of my most demanding apps and this cpu just handles them like it's lite work I'm throwing at it. Well, there's the value. Highly recommending this chip but if you do go for it, be sure to pick up the Thermalright CPU Contact Frame for LGA 1700 Retrofit Kit or else, your cpu will burn, literally, that’s the only caveat to the 12th generation. ... show more

  • Great Processor but Video Beware
I ordered this processor since I needed to finally upgrade my system to something more current. However I did not know that even though the motherboard I purchased supported onboard Video, that this processor (KF) does not have the internal code to support onboard video. I was racking my brain and all indications were that I had a bad MB or RAM but in fact, I just had to install a standalone GPU that I wasn't currently using and all was well. MB, RAM, Video all working great. Now I know why this processor was cheaper and its not a big deal, but being a computer builder since the 90's and a certified electronics tech., I would have thought that my pre-investigation would have uncovered this from the beginning, but the advertisers evidently specifically do not mention this little fact in the Tech Details they post. So all is good but just be aware and have spare parts. You never know when you might need to prove something for a new computer build. ... show more

  • Great value for the money, fastest processor I have ever had. Runs hot as balls
I wanted to upgrade from my i5 and figured it didn't get much better than this run of i9s. It was packaged well, looked brand new, and clean. It went in my big box easily and fit nicely. It is a huge speed upgrade. Everything loads 116% faster. My browsers are lightning fast. My video editing runs smooth and fast. The gaming is insane. Everything renders so smoothly and faster than I have ever seen. However, the dual cooler I had purchased for this i9 is NOT working to keep it cool enough. I have six or so fans running inside the box, and when playing online games like Path Of Exile and Once Human, it overheats to 160 degrees within five minutes. So, I need to do more research to figure out how to cool this thing down. If anyone has a recommendation, let me know. Bang for your buck, though, this is a HUGE upgrade from even an i7. ... show more

  • You want power? Well... Here you go!!
First Intel Setup for me. I have been building with AMD since 2006 and my last build was with Ryzen 7 3700x. I have been happy with AMD, but, I have seen a lot of instability in reviews and comments compared to Intel. I took the leap and I am happy. 360mm Radiator is a must. Its a beast. A beast that needs to be tamed, but with a good MOBO and cooler you will be fine. I game and Record with no problem and keep the temp around 75C and below while having a lot of apps open. I thought about going DDR5 route but I feel that there is more stability in DDR4 and I had an extra 32GB of Corsair memory sitting around anyway. Things worked out well for me. At this point I am an Intel guy. An easy to control CPU with Power and Efficiency I need. ... show more
