  • No Problems
This has been a trip but I am using this since I do not trust the newer generations of CPUs. I chose 8th gen versus 10/11/12th generation since I am trying (Actually Doing Now) dual booting Windows 7 & 10. Just remember that you NEED a compatible MOBO if your going to be doing that. Also remember that Microsoft and Intel are trying to STOP PEOPLE FROM USING OLDER OPERATING SYSTEMS, actually putting impedences in the CPUs to not run those operating systems anymore. Intel i5-8500 is stable, great speed and base clock at 3 GHz ramps up to 3.99 GHz without tweaking any profiles. My Setup: MSI MAG B365M MORTAR Intel i5-8500 MSI Geforce GTX 1050ti (2x) WD Blue HDD 1TB **All I want to do is use photoshop and emulate PS2 games. Does the latter perfectly fine, and yet do the former but no doubt will run like butter. Shadow of the Colossus and Gran Turismo 3 run at 60fps at 720p with only 30% usage of CPU and GPU, max spike 60%. At 1080p 38-52% CPU and 50% GPU usage, max spike 70% for both CPU/GPU.** ... show more

  • A pleasant surprise
This purchase was to replace a 9900K that was roasting and wasting away in a 2U Microserver. I have to admit that at first, I was skeptical. No worries! The i5-8500 with 6 cores and 630 Igpu has done its job with my plex server and runs at a cool 94/106 Fh. I did not use the stock cooler, however, instead, I used the Noctua NH-L9x65, Premium Low-Profile CPU Cooler (65mm, Brown) found here on Amazon. The 6 cores are more than enough to serve files and the i9 9900K is back to a safe place in another pc. I hope this helps someone. Good luck and Godspeed. ... show more

  • I got lucky and needed this days after it was released.
Good bang for the buck. Only a few dollars more that a 8400. Half the price of the really bad boy stuff. For my use its all I need. I'm still running a 3rd generation I 5. When things give good service I tend to go back for more. I even bought some Intel stock to go with it. Up about 25% already...

  • It's basically an I5 9400.
Got this for $5 more than the 8400 to replace an I7 3770. I also went from 16gb of 1333ghz to 16gb 3000mhz on a Z370. With a GTX 1070 I didn't notice a real difference until I got into really demanding areas in games. Fps drops into the 40s now don't go below 60. Also everything just seems smoother. Overall I'm very happy with my unnecessary upgrade. ... show more

  • Great processor
I love this little processor. I bought it in a machine that I use for mostly web browsing and playing games. It is a champ. They have also made these a lot easier to install than what I remember by getting rid of the pins. With the six cores, I felt it wasn’t worth the cost of going to an i7 and have not been disappointed. ... show more
