It was very frustrating, putting the winder together. The QR code on the top of the box. What is not working? I googled the name of the product and manufacturer on Google and on YouTube and didn’t find the video. I was looking at the product on my phone, and the reviews were side-by-side, and I did not see them, once I could watch the videos, the machine works like a dream. I had already requested a return when I finally found the video on YouTube when I did a simple search on “yarn winder.“ That part was very frustrating. I also do not like the clamp that does not really hold that to my table. I will get another clamp at the hardware store As for the actual working of the machine, it works rather well. Aside from being more aesthetically pleasing than a plastic one, the mechanism is very smooth. I’ve done three or four skeins now, and I am pleased with how the cakes come out. And the video of the winding, the guy is also holding the yarn, guiding it into the spring saying that you need to thread your yarn through. I’m giving the review through just three stars because of the assembly the QR code should work, and I hope the company will be connecting that because that is the only indication of instructions that actually come with the product. Let’s start with the good. This thing is buttery smooth. It is so much quieter than my cheap plastic one. It feels solid. Look nice. The bad: - The clamp is next to useless. Saw other reviews saying a similar thing. Even if you tighten it to the absolute tightest possible, it is likely to pop right off. Would be good if the top of the clamp was physically attached, not just a hole in the side. - The spindle bit that the yarn is wound to pops right off. It looks like there should be some sort of latching mechanism based on the slit on the rod, but the hole in the spindle is smooth. Would like a button or something to latch in. I needed a yarn winder and swift, and after looking at practically every one on Amazon, decided to splurge and get this one as it looked like a better quality product than the cheaper plastic ones. I received it today, and it came in several pieces with no instructions whatsoever on how to assemble or use it. After looking at the Amazon order there were a couple of videos that showed how to put it together. Using it is pretty simple. After a lot bit of trial and error, I'm confident I'll be able to make beautiful cakes of yarn. I like how it is sturdy and heavy so it doesn't slide around. The wood is beautiful too and it will look nice on the shelf of my craft room when I'm not using it. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is the lack of instructions in the box. The previous reviews spanned great to awful, so I was not sure about this winder. It seems well-made overall. I am not having problems with the handle/crank; it spins freely. The anchor/clamp provided is worthless; I'm using a 2" clamp mounted near the feed side and it would be nice to have that option on the crank side, but there really isn't room on the base. Once I'm sure I like the clamp where it is, I'll drill a small well for the clamp surface; right now I'm using popsicle sticks to prevent cosmetic damage. The winding works well; I wound several balls from a giant one-pound hank for practice. Those required some tensioning ahead of the feed coil but that may have been me learning. I've wound weights from lace-mohair to worsted directly off my swift. The lighter weights seemed to require a bit of additional tension; the sport, dk, and worsted all ran smoothly from swift to ball spindle. There was only the occasional catch if the skein was slightly tangled, and the last few wraps on the swift always caused issues. This may well be my swift though; it is unpredictably temperamental. In any case, once I started wrapping the last few yards by hand, life got easier. I do love the way the cake pulls off and leaves the center-pull end available. The cakes are loose enough not to stretch the yarn much, but not floppy or oval. I did not attempt any heavy worsted or bulky yarns. I suspect they might not catch well in the sawn slots for the cake. This is also somewhat rough-edged, as is the interior of the core. A bit of sanding smoothed it out. It should only touch the first inch or so of yarn anyway. Overall, it's a lovely piece, finished well, and I'm glad I bought something other than a cheap plastic winder. The issues were all pretty minor, the biggest one in my mind being the poor design for the clamp. ... show more

Oh my this is so nice. Makes nice cakes of yarn. Easy to use. I do recommend that you put a non slip pad underneath it, the non slip pads that come on it are a bit slippery and don't hold very well. I used an extra C-clamp to help hold it down. The clamp that comes with it walked out of its hole on the side of winder. Hole is bigger than the metal hook. I watched the video on how to put it together. There is no talking in video and no paper instructions included. The only part I couldn't figure was the spindle for making the cake. That is why I watched the video. I ordered on 2/21 and it was delivered on 2/24 and it came from India. It is beautiful and well made. ... show more
