This little bugger works well. I used it to strip my exhaust headers and rulers on my boat to bare metal. They were a bit rusty and this thing did the trick. I used 70 grit aluminum oxide. The only complaint is, the little 1/8” I.D. tube that screws into the brass fitting came unscrewed. It made a “pop” sound and stopped working. I disassembled it (easy) and found it had unscrewed. I screwed it back together using blue Loctite and finished the job. I like that it doesn’t dump grit out. It only comes out when you pull the trigger, unlike the cheapo Harbor Freight one that broke. Plus it works a lot better than the Harbor Freight model. Make sure you wear full enclosed goggles cuz the grit bounces back with enough velocity to get into every opening. Wear gloves too as I think this might actually inject grit into a hand if you accidentally aimed it too close to your hand.

There are a variety of these portable sandblasters available, and I had bought another brand with a blue hopper. I know it's here but for the life of me I cannot find it, so I ordered this one since it had the fastest shipping since I was working on a project. It worked about the same as the blue version, but it doesn't feel as high of quality from my memory. It's basically mostly all plastic with a few non-metal bits. You can also only feed from the hopper, whereas others can siphon media as well. With that said it works well. I filled it with coal slag from Tractor Supply and it blasted right through powder coat with no issues. I do have a full sandblasting hood I wear when blasting, but there is no way around the mess these things make. You will have dust and debris all over, including yourself. If you don't want that, then buy a pair of disposable coveralls when blasting, and wear ample PPE. You also should have a relatively robust air compressor setup. I run an Eastwood QST 30/60 with a series of filters/dryers. and all the air is routed through a large Ingersol Rand refrigerated dryer. I do some painting and plasma cutting, so that is why I have a decent compressor setup. Dry media and dry air helps a lot with keeping clogs to a minimum. Knocked a star since it feels cheap.

This is a review for a sandblaster I purchased to clean my engine manifold ports. I have a 12-year-old car and decided to tackle the built-up carbon and combustion byproducts in the intake manifold. After doing a lot of research on different methods (chemicals, manual scraping with picks, and various blasting options), I decided to go with walnut blasting using this sandblaster—and I’m very happy with the results. I used a compressor that goes up to 150 PSI and fine/medium grit walnut shell media. In practice, I found that 80–100 PSI was the sweet spot. At higher pressures (around 150 PSI), the walnut shells didn’t flow as well through the blaster. At the proper pressure, the tool worked efficiently and gave me a noticeable improvement, as you can see in my before-and-after pictures. A few tips that made this work really well: 1. Use a moisture trap on your compressor This helps keep the air dry so the walnut media doesn’t clump and flows smoothly. 2. Make sure the walnut shells are completely dry Any moisture will cause clogging and poor performance. 3. Have a way to contain and collect the media I used a cover setup that allowed me to connect a shop vac. This was essential for trapping and removing the walnut shells from the manifold area while blasting. 4. Verify your valves are fully closed before blasting You do not want walnut shells getting into the cylinders. I rotated the crankshaft to ensure the valves were closed for each cylinder I was working on, then used brake cleaner in the ports to confirm it didn’t leak past the valves into the cylinder. Only when it held fluid did I proceed with blasting. 5. Be prepared to do some manual cleanup In a few tight spots where the blaster couldn’t reach, I used picks to loosen stubborn carbon, then blasted again and vacuumed out all remaining media. Overall, the whole process took about 2–3 hours, and the results were excellent. The ports were much cleaner, my engine is running smoothly, and I have no engine codes after the job. The sandblaster itself performed very well, felt sturdy, and handled the walnut shell media without issues once everything was set up correctly. I’d give it a solid 5/5 and recommend it to anyone interested in doing walnut blasting on their intake ports—provided they’re willing to follow proper precautions and take their time.

This is perfect for small jobs. I needed to get into small spaces on a welded stags head (behind the ears and around the antlers) and this worked perfectly with the 80 grit media. I only have a 10 gallon compressor but it was more than adequate for the small areas I needed to work on. I am very happy with the purchase and I am sure it will be helpful on future welded projects.
