I used to have the red and yellowish winder by its self and it last for only 3 or 4 yarn cakes.. then I saw this combo and thought for the affordable price I’ll go ahead and give it a spin.. and let me tell ya I’m glad I did! If you use the winder by itself you get small yarn cakes.. but if you use the swifter and winder together you get huge yarn cakes! I can wind a red heart super savor jumbo skein into 1 beautiful tightly wound cake!

This is really neat. I always look forward to using it. I did not need the attachment that came with it because I have one that is usb. The two make balling yarn a lot quicker and easier.

The swift works well but feels a bit rickety, as the components are plastic and thin metal. This is NOT the sturdy wooden model at your LYS. Definitely want to guide your yarn as it comes off and over to the winder or it can get caught. The winder is absolutely straight forward, no surprises and does exactly what it’s intended to do. Mind you grab the center strand of your yarn as you remove it from the spindle or it might get lost. Overall, I’m pleased with this set particularly since I’ll be purchasing my knitting supplies online going forward.

I have now processed a lot of yarn through this winder and it has done its job. However, I do have two small problems. There is a metal piece that helps keep your yarn in place as you wind, I wish it clicked into place or had any stability, I ended up having to tape it down so it would stay where I needed it to. The second problem is the size of the table clamp. Other yarn winders I have used in the past have a much larger clamp so I could do it pretty much anywhere. With this specific one I could only find one small TV stand edge that was thin enough to be able to clamp. My dining table, coffee table and end tables were all too thick and the clamp wouldn’t fit.

I wanted this yarn winder for when I had yarn remnants after I finished crochet projects. The setup is quick and easy and it's easy to use. I have found that the inside comes out of the middle when I take the yarn ball off the winder. This might be user error but I have tried adjusting tension and other techniques to fix this and it still happens. Overall though, I am pleased with this item and it will help clean up my yarn mess.
