So I purchased this as an experiment to see if I could get this to create my plugs for the garden in a nice environment and faster than using seed trays with heated mats. The cost of this system when on offer and a couple of seed trays with mats and lights is about the same, although the latter needs some construction. I threw Tomatoes (2 seeds), Sweet Pepper (2 seeds) and Gem Lettuce (4 seeds) at it first. Followed the instructions to get them started and waited. This review is three weeks into the growth. The two tomatoes and two of the gem lettuce were first to pop to the point I removed the dome (which did work and provide the humidity required). At that point I added my OWN nutrients to the water. An organic liquid fertilizer. The Tomatoes and two lettuce thrived, and one pepper woke up and started to thrive too. The other three pods failed. NOW that's not unusual for seeds, they are not all viable. I have now placed cauliflower seeds and another pepper seed, in the failed pods. MY hope is those plugs grow nicely. I could see how you could grow Gem Lettuce in this all year round, but frankly any food worth its nutrition and size would need transplanting out which is what I am doing. Comparing this system to the tray method and to planting straight outdoors, this is superior even with failure. The growth on the tomato plants after three weeks is twice what I get from seed trays, and three times what I got from planting seeds directly outdoors (which I did as comparison only, you really don't want to plant tomatoes this way). I will have to scale up to another couple of machines though, so I'll be looking for the price point I bought this one at which is well below full price to make it work. And that's the point. The Value For Money of these systems is when they are sub $40 ($5 a pod) and you use them to accelerate crops. They really aren't big enough or have enough volume for growing your own food to save money. You will need to transplant. But this gives them a really good start, and because you can buy more cones, you can plant the plugs, cone and all, into the ground and avoid too much shock to the plant. I'm looking forward to seeing if I can try some more ambitious seeds in the future. Exotic seeds are expensive and having a slightly better way of avoiding seed failures is always welcome. @@@update@@@ I decided this was working for my needs and I bought another one! ... show more

I love growing lettuce indoors without worry of bugs. 🪲🐛 I have had to reset the unit by unplugging and plugging them back in but it was due to user error not the actual unit. The only problem I am having is the light will not extend to its full height. I can extend it but it will slowly fall back down to the next to last height extension. If not for that I would have given this 5 stars. The smaller unit I use to germinate seeds that take forever to germinate. Right now it has one tomato plant but previously had mum seeds I germinated because I couldn't get them to germinate outside. ... show more

I really like this kit! The only reason I’m giving it four stars is because some of my sponges seem to be growing mold on them, and not allowing the seed to sprout. I’m unsure if the issue is the actual sponge or the seed. This is the second time I have to replace the sponge and the seed. Not sure why. Otherwise, I think it’s great! I purchased 2 of these. One for an elderly friend who is unable to garden outside any more and myself to have salad greens indoors year round. Both products have served their purpose. Warning, when the mature plants are, well, mature, they need constant monitoring for water as they drink ALOT. I planted several types of seeds in both. In my friend's, the only things that came up were tomatoes. The plants are doing great and with me acting as a bee with a Q-tip, the 2 plants have, thus far, produced 25 cherry tomatoes. However, many have bottom end rot and either the family didn't fill the reservoir enough, allowing the roots to dry, or I failed to fertilize enough. My own has produced copious amounts of kale, beet greens and basil. The stalks of all have gotten almost too large for the pods, probably time to replant. I would definitely purchase others for more food. ... show more

Don’t buy one without a pump, you will get root rot. This little system is great for the price and comes with lots of extras, pods and plant food and then some. Love the different light settings for fruits or leaves, and it learns your habits and shuts itself off at night. It’s a bit small for tomatoes, even a dwarf variety takes right over, but it works. My plants just lean on my drying rack, see? Yeah that was a dwarf variety of cherry tomatoes. I have green hands not just a green thumb but wow. I will have a bumper crop right from my kitchen. Oh newbies? You need to simulate bees and pollinate with a a-tip to get fruit. If it doesn’t fruit that is why! ... show more

UPDATE: After I contacted them they got in touch with me the very next day and they were super friendly and responsive to my problem. After I answered some of their questions and sent the requested photo they are now sending me a new unit all together. I honestly wasn't expecting this to go so well. I am super happy and impressed with their customer service. My daughter in-law will be so happy because she loves this thing. Bought it November 15, 2022 to gift for Christmas for my daughter in-law. Got a text today saying the lights no longer work. Sad, that didn't last long so I currently have only two stars due to that. Otherwise the product is a 5 star.
