  • It works but be careful of the user manual
This device works and gets the job done. I managed to clone my new SSD of 500 GB in about two hours. The user manual however, is absolutely unprofessional. It did not explain how to clone offline. In the instructions you would understand that you need to press and hold the on/off button for 3 second and then release and press it again. If you do this cloning will never starts. The correct instructions should have been: Place the source disk in A Place the target disk in B Switch the power button on and make sure that both lights in A and B are on (if the light do not turn on in A or B, please make sure that disks are correctly instered in their slots). Once both A and B lights are on, switch and hold the Clone button for 3 second until the 100% blue light briefly turns on. Once this light turns on briefly, press and release the Clone button once more, and you should see the 25% light coming on. Once the 100% light is steady on, you have finished cloning. Switch the power button off and remove both disks. Update: After using the clone docking station once, I tried to use it for the second time to clone another SSD, but it did not work. Therefore, I replaced it with another unit from Amazon which worked great. I am not sure, though for how long the second docking station will work and I will update this review if it stops working. ... show more

  • Great for what I needed it for, but a few issues
Overall this is a great piece of hardware. It did exactly what I wanted it to, which was cloning my original 3.5" 1.5TB HDD to a new 2.5" 2 TB SSD. There are a few things to note however. If you are trying to clone one 3.5" HDD to another 3.5" HDD, this most likely will not work for you. I tried this initially since I had purchased a spare HDD years ago identical to my original HDD. This docking station does NOT seem to have the power to supply both drives at once for cloning. It will power cycle on and off. It did not let it do this for very long in fear of it messing something up. I noted at least one other person reviewing this item had the same results when trying a clone of two 3.5" HDD's. Another issue that I only found out in the fine print AFTER purchase was that your destination drive must be as big or bigger than the source drive, even if your source drive is only partially full. I originally purchased a 1TB SSD to clone to. I thought this would be enough since my original 1.5TB HDD was not even half full. Instructions state that this will NOT work, so I did NOT try it. I did not see this information advertised anywhere when looking at this item on Amazon. I may have missed it though. So I purchased a larger 2.5" 2TB SSD and cloned my original 3.5" 1.5TB HDD to it with no issues. It did take some time (About 4 hours) but for me this isn't a big deal. I just set it up and did something else. The unit does get warm while cloning, especially when it takes hours. I had a small fan nearby to keep the electronics cool. Overall I am VERY happy with this device. It did exactly what I needed and was extremely affordable. The colored lights in the base are a nice touch too....they are almost mesmerizing. For the average person who only needs to do the occasional clone, this will work well for you (As long as you read the exclusions I mentioned earlier). ... show more

  • Works great
Works great, fairly quick, (about an hour to copy a 1tb hhd to ssd) and pretty cheap!

  • Good for hard drives but slow for SSDs since it only supports SATA 2.
I didn't see this noted anywhere, but the SATA interfaces are clearly SATA 2 (3 Gb/s) rather than SATA 3 (6 GB/s). This is not an issue for almost all hard drives since they can't saturate a SATA 2 interface. It is a problem for most SSDs as they can easily saturate a SATA 3 interface. Otherwise it works great with no fuss. ... show more

  • Love It
I cloned my laptop 500 GB HDD to a new Samsung 500 GB SSD and it worked PERFECTLY. Simple to use. Wish I had gotten one years ago instead of using cloning programs. They can be a hastle sometimes. Just push and hold the clone button 3 seconds till the lights light up, quickly release button and push it 1 more time and it will start cloning. The 25 % liht will start flashing and the color strobes on the bottom will speed up. Then just walk away and leave it. Check on it about every 1/2 hour for progress. When 100 % light stops flashing and stays solid, it is done. SHUT POWER OFF before removing drives.. Make shure power is also off BEFORE installing drives into docking station. ... show more

  • Pretty good, I think?
I have a couple of drives docked in here which I use to transfer large video files from a small laptop to my main computer. For the most part, it works great! At one point, however, a few files became totally corrupted and a drive became unreadable. I have no idea if this was because of a faulty data transfer, or somehow improperly being ejected despite my best efforts, so I can't blame the dock entirely - but I've never had this happen before. Fortunately, the one-button clone option saved most of the files and put them onto a second drive. A few files never recovered but it was way better than nothing. I left the process running overnight and it never seemed to finish so I had to abort it, but the files were there anyway. Again, no idea if this was because the drive went bad after docking it here, or it was something else. After that, however, everything has been solid. Fast enough transfers, pretty solid even though the drives have a ton of wiggle room. ... show more
