Description

Some movies never grow old. This is one of them. The 4k transfer is commendable. I like the preservation of the grainyness. Some movies should never have been made grainy. This is one done right!

    • It's from 1967 . . .
. . . so I try to imagine seeing this classic in the theater. In 1967. I may be mistaken but I don't think high definition, much less its 4K iteration, was the format of that era. SO, I very much enjoyed the Criterion dvd of this great film: it looks great and sounds wonderful (in mono!), and includes numerous supplemental interviews as well as a group commentary (Jewison, Steiger, Grant, Wexler), all from 2008 (2006 AFI interview with Mr. Poitier). This Oscar winning Best Film from 1967 has stellar performances by all, and comes with "highest recommendation" for this Criterion release. On dvd. ... show more

*This review is for The Criterion Collection release* This movie ranks as one of the finest films of the 60s, and features stellar performances from the best in the biz at that time. Criterion does a wonderful job on all of their releases, and this one is no exception. They curate films with the movie fan and collector in mind. This release features an excellent disc that includes a crisp, clear picture and well-balanced audio; several bonus featurettes; original cover art; and a comprehensive essay on the film and cast, which also features more original artwork throughout. Disc and essay booklet are housed in one of those sturdy, heavy duty cases Criterion is known for. You can't go wrong with The Criterion Collection releases, and I highly recommend this one- especially if you're a serious collector of fine cinema. ... show more

This most quotable line from an excellent film, In The Heat of the Night stars Sidney Potier, and Rod Steiger, with an assist to Lee Grant, and Warren Oates. Perhaps the most disturbing scene (for its time, the very turbulent '60s) is between Sidney Potier and Larry Gates. It certainly drew a reaction from audiences. A black man has the audacity to slap a white man. A well deserved slap by the way. The extras on the disc add to the enjoyment of owning this title. ... show more

Each of its 5 Oscars is well deserved from a field of other classic movies. The mood of this movie is surreal though very true to life and draws you down deep into the story.

Classic late 60's film about contemporary race relations in the South. Interesting, if a bit slow moving, by today's standards, mystery with knockout performances by the two leads. Picture image is first rate, a true movie house viewing experience. Well worth the time devoted to viewing.
