It is a convenient size and the right material for this job. I'm grinding hematite red into (ultimately) oil paint. It's slow going but not something I have to do since I can buy the paint already made -- I just wanted the experience. If you think of trying that, this is the right tool.

The media could not be loaded. There isn’t anything negative I can say about this product I use it for making goat milk soap it is great. I use dried flowers that I pick and I crush the leaves and I put the leaves into the soap. It’s wonderful.

I bought this for grinding spices, and it works pretty well to grind, but is a little tougher to clean. It's easy to clean most out, but there may be a hint left. That's not really a problem until you also start using it to crush pills, which is one of its listed uses. If I were thinking about pills, I think I'd get a porcelain one. I think I should have gotten a larger one for spices, but that's really on me -- I'm a newbie on mortars and pestles. Unless they start selling "Cherry Avocados" there is no way you'll be making guac in one of these! :) Thanks for reading! ... show more

Love this granite mortal and pestle. Most were around 5 lbs and for meds I needed something smaller. This one is perfect at about 2 lbs. It does a great job crushing the pills. It is beautiful and well made. Very happy with this and will definitely be referring others to this item.
