It is made large enough and sturdy enough for an adult (max weight 225 lbs). The cushions are soft, with removable covers for washing. She put it together with almost no assistance from me. I also purchased a chair mat to put on the carpet, but the chair seems to glide very well on just the carpet. I'll let her decide whether she prefers to use it with or without the mat.
