These things will heat the water in a 5 gallon bucket, but anything more than that is ambitious. They advertise that they can be used for small swimming pools and hot tubs but I put two of them in a small pool and the only thing that got hot was the wire going to the heater and yes, they were on separate circuits never put two of these on the same household circuit ... show more

Unless you are putting these in large bodies of water they are useless. I bought them for my animals watering tanks to keep them from freezing. You have to lay them flat which all my tanks are tall. It makes the water too hot for drinking. Great if you want to use it for a fish tank!
