  • Great heater but not designed to boil water
The Immersion Water Heater, 1500W Pool Heater with Star Design Stainless Steel Cover does deliver on what it says. This is designed to heat water and not boil it. Heat it, it does. This has a really good quality, thick cord running to it. It should if it's pulling around 1500 watts. The heating element is not exposed but inside metal tube pierced with stars. It not take long to heat up a two-gallon bucket of water. It makes a sound much like a kettle approaching a boil. It does say to keep it immersed in water while in use. Supposedly, it does have an auto cut off at around 167f. This is good for being in a place where you need hot water and have access to AC. As far as heating a pool, I suppose it could do that but that's a lot of water and electricity. The sun is free. It does come with a little digital thermometer that actually works. It's more of an after thought. It's obviously not waterproof and from the markings on the side, it looks like it was made to fit into some type of panel. It does run on button batteries and will probably work until you get it wet. A digital pool thermometer probably would work better. But, this is good enough and better than nothing. On the whole, I'm very pleased with this little heater and it's been a big help when I needed hot water in a hurry with no other way to obtain it. I think it was very reasonably priced, easy to use and as long as it's not plugged in out of water, it should last for several years. It does state you shouldn't put two of these things on the same outlet. I think this is a bit confusing. I think they mean don't use two of these on the same circuit. These do pull around 14 amps and two of them would overload most regular circuits. This pulls as much power as a space heater but it has to heat the water. ... show more

  • Heats large tub pretty well, but the “Do not touch water” label is scary
My friend decided to make his own bath/hot tub in his basement apartment which only had a walk-in shower. He bought a 100-gallon tub/trough and ran a garden hose from the water heater to it. He noticed that the water started to cool pretty quickly, so he started seeking an immersion water heater. I ordered this for him. He notes: It seems to be heating pretty well. In the first photo, the temperature of 105° was from water right out of the water heater after 10 minutes of filling. I turned on the immersion heater and will check it after 30 mins. It appears to hold a temperature of 103° pretty steady in 75 gallons of water. It also heats 80° water to 100° in about 3 hours. I wish it didn't have the "do not touch the water when using" label; something had to have happened prior to them affixing that label! ... show more

  • No Frills Water Heater
I got this for cheesemaking. One of the biggest headaches for me when making cheese is keeping a sink full of water at a certain temperature for hours at a time for the curds to do their thing. This involves taking the water's temperature every few minutes, and adding more warm water, draining some water when it starts getting too cold, etc. This little baby is going to take care of that for me. I will be able to just leave it in the sink and monitor the temperature of the water. So- the no frills part. This thing is dead simple from the consumer's standpoint. Plug it in, it's on. Unplug it, it's off. It comes with a little thermometer attached to a probe, which is kind of nice, but there is no on/off switch for that either. To test this, I filled my sink with about 3 gallons of water, the amount I would have in the sink for my stockpot of cheese curds. The starting temperature of the water was 78.4 degrees Fahrenheit. The heater brought the water temperature to 100 degrees Fahrenheit (the temp for my cheese) in 9 minutes. I'm good with that. I left the wand in the water plugged in for an additional 10 minutes, just to see, and at the end of that 10 minutes, the water temperature had increased to 131 degrees Fahrenheit. That's far more than I'll ever need for my cheeses, and I'll be able to keep the proper temp without wasting water. I am very pleased with this heater. ... show more

  • Broke after one use.
I plugged it in to use it a second time and it wasn't working. I thought maybe it was a outlet issue. so I tried another outlet and still nothing. Also, I don't see a way to shut the digital thermometer. I had to remove a battery to shut it off.

  • Heats up.....Eventually
4 stars since this does what it says, however my overzealous expectations are mostly to blame for not a full 5 stars. I wanted to use this to heat a very small kiddy pool. And it will do it, however it will take a LONG time to do so. So much that we just use a solar cover to heat it quicker. But if you didnt have that or its not a sunny day this will work well. Itll just take awhile. Pros: -Very well made -Thick power cable -Solid build -Very affordable -Does heat the water Cons: -Uses gratuitous amounts of power -Does not cycle water so it takes longer to heat All in all this is a great little heater and when testing it on a bucket it does heat it quickly and well. However for a small pool this is going to take a long time. ... show more

  • Works fast
We tested this in a 3 gallon bucket and it heated the water from 72 degrees to 101 in under 2 minutes. We'll be using this to heat shower water when camping. It has a high wattage but at 2 minutes off our solar generator we can get 3 gallons of hot showering quickly enough that it doesn't dent the battery level. Pleasantly surprised at how well this worked. ... show more
