I got these knives to replace an older set that was missing most of the knives. The set comes with a wooden knife block that has an integrated knife sharpener which is nice, however, it doesn’t include a honing steel which is a bummer for me; knives should be honed often, but sharpened once in a while, therefore, I think this set may not last as long if the end user is always sharpening. Anyway, besides the missing tool, the knives are a bit light for me, I like to use knives with a bit more weight, but there are a lot of people that prefer a lighter knife especially if you’re using them for a long time. Also, missing from this set is a filet knife which I like to use for trimming/prepping proteins. This set is a nice starter set, or as in my case, perfect for a vacation home. For more professional users I’d recommend looking elsewhere. ... show more

The description clearly states the handles are plastic; so I was hoping they would be lighter weight but yet still a high quality for long periods of use. Lighter weight? Yes. Sharp well made blades? Yes. However, they are not showing themselves to be of the comfortable, durable quality, I expected. The balance is not consistent from knife to knife (some evenly balanced, others favor the blade and some favor the handle). The handles are not comfortable in my hand, for long use. Someone who doesn’t cook often or do a lot of food prep may find these knives to be just fine for their purposes. ... show more

Sturdy block, decent knives, complete set: This knife set comes with a very sturdy block that was a bit heavier than I'd anticipated. The block is heavy enough where I'm not really worried about it knocking over easily, even when fully loaded with the knives. The knives themselves are a little bit lighter than expected, which is a double edged sword (pun intended) - on the one hand, the lighter knives help ensure the block doesn't get too top heavy, and combined with the sturdy base makes it feel very secure when fully put together. On the other hand, the knives don't have the weight on them that gives other higher quality knives their excellent balance and cutting power/precision. The knife blades don't come incredibly sharp either, but after a few slides through the built in sharpener, are much sharper and do cut pretty well. This leads me to my last point - this really is a good, complete set, especially considering the sharpener is conveniently located and simple to use. Overall, this is a great set for new homeowners and I'd definitely recommend. ... show more

Several years ago, I got rid of our butcher block because it took up so much room on my counter. I have a very small galley kitchen with limited counterspace. I didn't want anything big and bulky on the counter. At the time, I decided to put the knives in the drawer and for the most part, it worked out well. When I saw this set, I decided to order it. My old set is getting a little rust on and showing it's age, so I wanted a new set. This set it perfect, complete with a butcher block. I still have the same kitchen, however, I decided to keep the butcher block and store it on top of the fridge rather than keep the knives in the drawer. Freeing up a drawer for other things will come in handy. This set is made really well. The handles are solid and the stainless steel is sharp. It comes with 12 knives, a pair of scissors and a built in knife sharpener. The color matches the decor in my home which I'm happy about. This is a nice knife set. I'm very happy with it.
