The espresso machine works great altogether. I do have a couple of issues with it: 1. The description does not tell you what size the portafilter is so you will need to figure out the size on your own. Currently I can determine that you need a 3 ear, 51mm portafilter. However it is hard to find a good fit as it has taken me a few tries to find one that fits. 2. You can't throughly clean the portafilter! Even if you unscrew the bottom of it (usually there's some mold buildup) you can't completely take it apart and give it a good cleaning. 3. (Very minor) The pull isn't as satisfying as many other machines becuase of the casted metal portafilter preventing you from seeing the pull. ... show more

Works great but clogs every few pours & won’t pour out until it’s cleaned. Maybe an issue with every espresso maker? I don’t know. However there’s no way to buy extra two cup filters for Ilavie, just the machine & what comes with it. You’re limited once you buy the unit because they don’t specify what size(in or mm) the filters are to buy replacements elsewhere. So for that you get 4stars ... show more

As much as I love this, I can not give five stars. I have had on and off water leaking from the water reservoir. Not sure why, all the seals and connection points are good. I’ve gotten in the habit of putting one of those dish drain mats underneath of the machine just in case it does leak.

    • It… works.
I got this machine as a step up from the little $50 one that gave out on me last year. Seemed simple, sleek, and easy enough to use. I wasn’t stoked about having to order espresso cups, a milk frothing cup, and other things in addition to the price of this machine, but bit the bullet given the reviews. It all arrived, I set it up and gave it a test run. No water came out of the espresso area the first four times I tried but eventually got it working. The machine seems temperamental, and is very loud regardless of what it’s doing (unless it’s off). The steaming takes forever and occasionally with spray a constant stream of hot water into my milk which is less than kosher for me but it is what it is. My BIGGEST issue is that there is only one TINY pinhole at the bottom of the espresso cup instead of all over, which causes it to not give proper espresso portions and leaves a diarrhea like sludge in the cup when it’s time for cleanup. It’s so gross, and a major design flaw. Thinking of either returning the machine or seeing about getting a new piece for it that’s better. Being able to pull a good shot of espresso seems important for an espresso machine to do, and this one ain’t it as a former barista. ... show more

I used to buy the $35 espresso machines and they did a good job at producing a big cup of strong espresso. But I have gone thru about 4 of them. I decided to spend a little money and see what happened. I love this machine. I cant put it on a timer like the cheap ones and it produces small cups, but the flavor is fantastic. It has a nice light brown frothy texture and is so smooth but strong. Once you press the button the espresso comes out in a couple seconds... the other machines took a minute or two. The machine is also very solid and looks great and professional on the counter. It does not maintain pressure inside after it is done either. The other ones did. Much safer. I Love It!! ... show more

    • Well worth the money - UNTIL I USED IT FOR 2 WEEKS!
Had a $800.00+ Saeco espresso machine that finally gave up the ghost after 20 years of faithful service. Saeco was bought by Phillips and they don't offer repair for my old machine. Don't drink espresso as much with my friends since we have all moved on. I couldn't justify spending another $800 + on the next espresso machine for 1 or two cups of espresso per day. Been on the HUNT for the past 7 months looking for a replacement machine. Looked at almost every machine currently on the market. Thought I would have to settle for something around $500.00. That was until I stumbled on the ILAVIE Espresso machine two weeks ago. The reviews were good for this stripped-down machine but, for 2 cups a day, it fit the bill for me. I've found a bean that fits my espresso taste. So now comes the part to see how it holds up and if it can produce a decent espresso cup. It's somewhat more cumbersome than my Saeco which did everything at the press of a button. Hey, for $170.00 I can do some work if I get the same results. 6 cups made so far with excellent results. We'll see how it holds up. UPDATE****** May 18, 2023 SORRY TO SAY, this espresso machine just doesn't cut it. Have been using it for the past two weeks with a very good grade of espresso beans but, the machine just doesn't have the pressure to drive the flavor out of the grind. The water when turned on is ready to make espresso in about 35 seconds which is barely time for the heated water needed to make great espresso. Yes, I'm comparing it to my $800 Saeco which may be unfair but I would rather go without Expresso than drink a watered-down version. Returning to Amazon. ... show more
