So - incredibly handy to have an extra source of ice. And when it's working correctly it's great, but there are a couple of issues you should know about.. I'm sure the same with most of the countertop icemakers out there since the mechanisms look to be exactly the same on many of them . And it was inexpensive (on sale for $100-ish?). But there are few annoyances. 1) There is a TINY screen filter in the bottom of the water tank, and you had better keep it clean. It's about 3/8" in diameter and therefore clogs up very easily. When that happens all hell breaks loose - water can't get to the nozzles in the correct volume. The filter is hard to get out, and very easy to lose. It would be nice if they gave you a couple extras. The first time I cleaned it it wound up down in my disposer. I rescued with no harm done, but it could have just as easily wound up in the sewer. 2) We have hard water, and even a tiny bit of calcium build up can make the mechanism start sticking, where it won't dump the ice into the bin and just shuts off.... error lights flashing. The "fix" is to run a 50-50 solution of white vinegar/water through the thing every week or two. This is a pain, and it takes a lot of flushing and wasted ice cubes, but it does dissolve the calcium and keeps it working. 3) This one is a design flaw IMO. The ice bin "fills up" when it's only about 1/2 full. As soon as one cube lands between the bin and the mechanism, it triggers the "bin full" light and it shuts off. So every time I walk by it I open the lid and push the cubes over into the bin. Much better ice volume, but another pain.

The Igloo ice maker makes ice fast and has been dependable during the first year. After the first year it began stopping occasionally. The upper tray that moves to hold water for the ice maker and then dumps ice into the lower bin, began sticking and required manually reaching in and freeing it up. This happens about once a week now. It is not a big problem, just an annoying inconvenience.

I have been wanted one of these for years! Our house doesn't have a water hook up to the fridge so instead of having it put in, I decided to order this guy! In my research I learned that all the ice makers are made by the same manufacture and there are only slight differences in all the models. This one had good ratings so I ordered it for myself for my birthday! I was very excited waiting for it to come. When it arrived, I followed the directions; I let it sit for an hour and then started making ice. Or so I thought. Long story short, mine wasn't working properly. I chatted online with very helpful people at Amazon and there was nothing i could do on my end, so they sent me a new one. The return was very easy (even during COVID). The new one arrived and wow, I didn't realize how much the other one didn't do. This one is PERFECT! It does just what it says. I had never seen one, so it was slightly bigger than I thought. I was expecting maybe coffee maker or toaster size, but it is a bit bigger. (Obviously I never looked at that during my research). Honestly, the size would only be a factor if: you have very limited space and can't lift 25 pounds if you have to move it. I like a lot of ice. I fill my cup up with ice and hope there is room for liquid. :) We have been buying ice for years due the volume I use, and it is nice to finally make my own. My husband and I have two older teenage children so with all of us home, we do use a lot. I leave it out for a couple of days, make ice, move it off the counter until it is time to pull it out again. I like the large ice, it looks like a bullet. They come out every 7-9 minutes it seems. There is a little tray they move into when done and it holds a couple/few hours of ice. It has lights on the top that let you know if more water is needed or if you need to empty the tray. At night if you are walking through the kitchen it is easy to notice if there is an error but its not an annoying light. The machine is not quiet but I don't think it is particularly loud until the ice falls. You can hear it from the other room, but instead of being annoyed, I seem to think "oh yes, more ice". Not enough to bother anyone I don't think. If you are thinking of getting one, I recommend this one. I really love the red color too!

The plastic buttons came un-adhered almost immediately. The ice is really wet. So when you dump it into the freezer, like you're supposed to, it all freezes into one big clump. This would be fine, but the scoop that comes with it is flimsy and you'll break the scoop before you break the ice clump. I bought a metal scoop, and it helped tremendously. The noise is to be expected. It's not prohibitively loud, and it's not like you run it 24x7. The biggest drawback is that you can get the self cleaning version of this exact ice maker for the same price.

When our ice maker went out and we discovered the cost of replacing it we decided to make our own. There is only the two of us so this igloo works for us. Just takes a little time, which we have plenty, we're 89. It is easy to use.
