This pet door has been such a game changer. Easy to install, durable, and you can get replacement parts!! I have the extra large door for my 70 pound Aussie mix pups and this pet door gets A LOT of use. After 3 years the soft flap is nearing its replacement time. It's not sealing perfectly anymore and the plastic exterior of the pet door has discolored a bit, but considering how rough my pups are with it I'm quite impressed. The solid metal frame construction and clear glass sidelights are holding up well. 10/10 for convenience, build quality, and longevity. It's a bit pricey, but worth every penny.

Ok, first off, I was expecting some cheap knock off of a real cat door/window. It arrived in a heavy slender cardboard box, structurally more stiff than most packaging, and it had a convenient carrying handle on the top. When I picked it up, it had some weight to it, so while I knew it was aluminum, I didn't have any expectation of how sturdy it would be and how well constructed. This thing installed, literally, in 35 seconds, once I took it out of the box. It's design allows it to work with the modern windows installed in our very old farmhouse. I set it in the track, lined up the ends, unscrewed the SPRING LOADED expanding sides (a very nice touch), using the thumbscrews and pulled the window down. Period. It was installed. I used duct tape to hold the window down in place, which matches my window color (bought here on Amazon). Since the window is in my home office, where kitty loves to stay all day trampling on my desk and keyboard, I wasn't concerned with the look. But you can see in the pic it doesn't look bad. I'm not good at anything construction-wise, but this product is a blessing. BTW.. It was $140.00 less expensive on Amazon than other pet stores or online stores. AMAZING. One thing I am EXTREMELY happy with is that it is not exactly as shown in the video. The video description shows a plastic door insert to keep your pet from going in and out, that is, to keep the flap from opening and closing. I wouldn't have been able to use that due to the location of the window ledge used to close and open the window. This model has a red knob that can lock it closed and it has a magnetic pull that keeps a breeze from opening the flap. Kitty just has to push a little bit if she wants in and out. I have huge windows sills inside and outside of the window. This window goes to the second floor balcony, her favorite place to watch birds at the feeder and the tree.

UPDATE: Feb 2021- The door is still a critical part of owning animals for our family. We were able to replace the plastic swing door as it was very dirty and dingy. The magnetic closure on the bottom was still working fine but I'm an aesthetics kind of girl. I care what things look like. I'm sure it could have been cleaned but it was so easy to just replace and looked good as new. We use the locking door occasionally when my husband is hunting to keep the animals inside. It is easy and quick to slide in and out. We now have 3 cats and the German shepherd who use it consistently. It has allowed us to eliminate cat litter boxes entirely which I'm forever thankful for. Our youngest (and wildest) cat does bring in mice and baby moles from time to time. We live deep in the woods and have had no other surprise visitors come in the door. I can fit through it (don't ask me how I know this) at 5'5" 165# but it requires some maneuvering. With our very protective dog and security cameras, I'm unconcerned with this but it could be relevant to others. Any version smaller than the XL would not allow an adult through. Still loving our doggy door and will surely repurchase if it becomes necessary. This door has been perfect for our family. We have 3 indoor/outdoor pets; a cat, a Bichon, and a fast-growing German Shepherd puppy (65 lbs at 5 months). They all learned to use it quickly and love it. We installed it so that the animals go out into our fenced area. It was quite easy and quick to install although we did add some tape around the edges where the seal was weaker and light was coming through. I'm sure there is some loss of heating/cooling but it's a compromise we were willing to make to avoid accidents while we're gone. The product is well made. Very sturdy metal frame. Comes with a plastic sleeve to close it off. We actually haven't used this at all. I would certainly buy it again if needed.

My cats really enjoy being able to go outside into their catio whenever they want to. This door was easy to install, the instructions were clear, it is easy to remove when I need to vacuum the window well. I have two large breed cats, the oldest is 2 yrs and weighs 15 lbs. The breed average is between 18-25 lbs and they can grow until they are 3-4 yrs old. This door is plenty big and will be large enough when my cats are full grown. I also have a 15 yr old cat weighing in at a whopping 5lbs. She is tiny. This door is easy for her to use as well. I installed the door in the fall. It is in my home office in the basement. The window is pretty tight and doesn't have gaps around the edges. I didn't notice much of a difference in temperature in the room unless I was standing right by the window. The only issue I have is that the lock is easy to move. The 15lb cat is orange, crazy, and smart. He learned how to lock the window and was constantly locking the other cats outside. I had to put a screw into the frame under the lock to prevent him from accidentally (or purposefully...) locking the other cats out. If we are gone for a few days this would be pretty bad. However, I do intend to purchase another one so the cats can get into the catio from the upstairs window as well.

This was the best thing we bought for our new house 6 years ago. Our 50lb aussie mix would sit quietly at the door to be let in/out at the old house. We can't see him around the corner here, so we tried the large pet pet window. He absolutely loves it, and runs in and out all day and night long to his hearts content. It sits in a sunny window, and with him and 5+cats all using the door it did eventually start to fail. The flap slowly became pretty stiff, we were thinking from the constant Texas sun. Then within the last 6 mos the flap had come away from one top corner about an inch. Not terrible and definitely still usable as it was. Hubby switched them out before I got a final pic of the old one. It's that fast to install/ take out. What finally got me ordering the replacement was the heat seeping in through the gap. I'm not even mad about it, because it's easily the most used thing in our house. I do wish I'd put down some kind of replaceable cover for the windowsill, it's looking well used at this point. I'll probably sand out the scratches and repaint eventually. The door cover comes in handy to completely lock away access. We used to put it in during rain to prevent water intrusion, then missed a couple storms and saw it was fine so we quit worrying about it.

2020 UPDATE: We still have this insert and it is a permanent fixture of our window. We now have a full screened in patio (with the pet/trampoline screen) for the cats to go in and out of and we also added two cats. Highly recommend this. We also added a door insert in our sliding door that goes out to the patio, but we have left this in so that the cats have multiple ways to get in and out of the patio in case one fails or just to keep the peace between them. Wow, what a project it was installing this window sash cat door! But already it is worth it, and the cats love it. We used ours to put in our bedroom window which leads to a small "catio" that we built outside. We did not want to have to create any big holes in our doors or walls, so this Ideal Pets Sash - Chubby Kat is perfect. Our cats are not fat, but they are tall, so we wanted to make it comfortable for them to get in and out of their catio. They learned very quickly how to use the cat door (same day) and did not want to leave their catio until we finally made them come in at 1 a.m. We live in Florida, and it is so hot right now that we cannot supervise our cats in the back yard as often as we normally would - we have to wait for it to cool down. So this cat flap gives them the freedom to go outside and inside as they please, and it still keeps them safe from traffic and other potential dangers outside. Anyway, back to the PROJECT of getting this installed. It took a lot of tweaking to finally get this to fit the way we wanted, especially to be able to make it as weatherproof as possible. Our window is about 35 inches wide. This window sash has springs on each side so that you can push the sides in to get the sash into your window frame, and then when you let it go they stretch back out and are tight in your window. The small silver knobs are basically just used to tighten that mechanism so that once the window sash is in place, you secure them and they will no longer be able to be moved. This sounds very simple, and for the most part, it was, but I am here to explain just a couple of things we had to do to get ours to work. Although the sash fits width wise into the window frame and weather stripping is provided, we ended up using about 7 feet of our own weather stripping to secure this thing. It comes with black weather stripping, which would have looked terrible all around the window and sash. We had to line the bottom of our window, the bottom of the window frame (tracking), both sides of the sash, in between any holes that were exposed between the window and top of sash. Also, we had to weather strip the sash itself from left to right all along the front below the cat door flap and silver knobs, as well as much more behind the sash to fill in any spaces created near the bottom window tracking. It takes a little bit of work to get the sides where you want them and to tighten the flexible side mechanisms just right as well as getting the sash at the height you want it. If you take a close look at the item you will see that the plastic cat door in the center has a white plastic frame around it. This will have to sit above your window tracking or else you will create a huge gap, letting air in and out, etc. In short, just be prepared with your own weather stripping (I suggest white colored), and I mean many feet of it, in different widths and also in different thicknesses (yes we had to choose different widths and thicknesses for our weather stripping.) It was a lot of careful and detailed work, but it really only took about 3 hours to complete - and that is definitely worth it for the amazing outcome! We are so happy with how this turned out and our cats are too. A couple of other things to note: despite all the work on the weather proofing, the product itself has a few features that will make it unable to be perfectly fully weatherproofed. As other reviewers mentioned, this is a cat door. The swinging door is surrounded with gray bristles that act as its own little weather strip, but those definitely let some air in and out. I believe the door is magnetic so that it should close behind your cats automatically, but since they have to make that magnet weak enough for a cat to get in and out of the door, it doesn't always fully close. We have only noticed this a couple of times. For the most part. it does close all the way. Above the swinging cat door is also a little bit of space that is not weatherproof. These are just small considerations to be aware of. In all, the small amount of air that may get in and out is probably much less than when you are opening and closing the doors to your house. Technically performs it's function as a cat door for my window, but falls short in several important ways. 1. Not weatherproof sealed. I found many small gaps around the unit, even with the foam strip provided, and on a cold or windy day I could feel the outside air all around. To fix this. I bought my own foam weatherproof strips and placed top bottom and sides and this helped significantly. However. Nothing will be able to fix the open space around the door itself... 2. Door does not close well. My cats sometimes slowly crawl out the door and in this case the door gets "stuck" in the partially up position. The magnetic close is not strong enough to bring the door back to the closed position. Therefore outside air and/or bugs have no problem coming inside. I tried to fix this by adding a small weight to the bottom of the door but it must not have been heavy enough because it didn't help. And eventually fell off. The good part is the door does not slam down on the cats or their tails so I guess I will live with this flaw. 3. The lock is not adequate. It is just a small plastic lever in the center of the door. The very first time I locked the door I came home to find my cat locked OUTSIDE. This happened one more time before I concluded I could not count on this lock. Not only could my cat somehow slip through the open corner and/or move the lock himself... But he didn't open it fully enough to let himself back in, so leaving it unlocked would have been better. After reading many reviews on several other pet doors I came to the conclusion that perhaps if you have a persistent enough cat they will escape any of the doors out there, so it was not enough to return the item. Instead I followed another reviewers advice and physically block the door with a piece of beadboard I had laying around and command strips (the rubber band hooks he suggested was also not enough because my crazy cat could unhook them...). Note: I added a bell to the door so I could hear when the cats were coming in or out. Also recommend window locks to keep it safe.
