Ideal Electrical designed and engineered an amazing product by not trying to be the absolute best. SureTrace TR-946 works well to extremely well. Less expensive (than Klein), performs well and fast-easy to use. It's a perfect intersection of 3 key factors. 1 • It's an extremely high value product with reasonable price. 2 • A time saver. 3 • The performance is excellent and well calibrated to the target market segment - residential and commercial electricians, HVAC and maybe DIY folks. Farmers out in nowhere will find this tool useful in detecting buried cables. This tool reduce the hassle and trial-and-error work in locating inaccessible cables, behind wall or in the ground. It also makes finding the right breaker easier. It can be extremely sensitive. This is useful in locating cable deep underground. Therefore, it's important to understand sensitivity adjustment for different purposes. To identify a breaker, sensitivity setting has to be set low. Do spend some time to study each model capabilities before buying. The units required a total of 10 AA batteries. It's recommended to use high performance rechargeable batteries as they don't leak corrosive fluid if accidentally left unused for a while. It's magical if you have to deal with renovating a building and wondering where and how the cables were laid out. A must have in any good diagnosis toolsets. I just got this and loaded the app to see the directions and learn to use it properly. I am impressed with the feel of the unit and I will see how well it works this week locating a few problem spots in a customer's house. I will update this in a few days, once I have tried it out.

This thing is great. Have a klein et450 at work. Was going to buy one for personal use and ran across this unit. It is about $100 cheaper so I gave it a shot. Works just as well as the klein. Actually probably a little better. Klein seems to get confused in circuits with a lot of receptacles and junctions over long distance. This one seems to do a little better. For the lower price id recommend this. But for the same money as the klein et450- you can get into the ideal suretrace plus with more features. Im a klein fan boy. Own tons of their tools and diagnostic units. This purchase has made me a believer in ideal. Solid piece of equipment for professionals. A diy guy will be a hero with his buddies by having this thing. Great tool. Waaay cheaper than hiring an electrician. Buy this- watch some you tube and become an electrician in no time! ... show more

I'm leaving Amazon in light of it's support for the current administration. Had a house breaker that kept tripping. Was able to locate all the wires I was trying to locate, but only after all wires were disconnected from the fuse box. The sensitivity setting was super helpful. Fantastic! Ive bought a lot of traders over the years, and this is the best. Itll crap out one day, but it'll be from wear and tear. Ill buy another when it does. Im so impressed with Ideal that when I buy tools now, im checking to see if they've got what I need first.
