This is my first nylon string guitar, and it is perfect for someone who is crossing over from steel string. I was torn between getting a solid body or a thinline, and I'm glad I chose this, because the sound is not bad, even better plugged in. Clear notes, just not a full sound you'd get from a larger body. What impressed me most is that it came set up perfectly out of the box. Remember that it has a TRUSS ROD people, the neck relief can be adjusted unlike most classical guitars. What did you think that hex wrench in the bag was for? The strings that came on it were pretty low tension, so the bass E buzzed a bit, but after I put on hard tension strings, the action was perfect. Of course I also polished the rough frets and conditioned the untreated fingerboard, but at least the fret ends were smooth and the fingerboard edges were comfortable. The only thing I will probably change is the tuners. Still amazing value for the price, you can not do better if this is the type of guitar you're looking for. P.S. not sure why "thickness" needs to be rated, I knew how thick it was when I ordered it. But I gave it five stars anyway. ... show more

    • I absolutely love it
I'm in love with this guitar, for a number of reasons. First of all let me just point out the one and only negative aspect of the guitar, and that's that it obviously won't sound as nice and rich as a regular full body classical guitar, since this is a slim body design and the body is almost half the thickness of a standard full body classical. I mean, that's a given, and if someone is looking for the best sounding classical guitar, I doubt they would be shopping for $300 hybrid style guitars like the Ibanez GA35TCEDVS. Now on to the positives, and there are many. 1. Being a slim line design is perfect for me since if I want it louder, I plug it in to my amp, headphones, and I can used a multitude of effect pedals with it to really play around with the sound, add some delays, reverb, etc. So the loss of that full body guitar sound is not an issue for me personally at all but it may be different for you. I personally love the way Ibanez GA35TCEDVS sounds both with and without an amp. For my purposed it is perfect. 2. I don't know if they did this on purpose, but the small circle inlay on the 7th fret is designed in a way where it shines and stands out more than the 3rd, 5th, 9th, and other inlays. This was a very nice surprised as the 7th fret is used for reference a lot of times in songs, so having it shine out a little brighter is wonderful. I have no idea if other Ibanez GA35TCEDVS models are like this too, if they are, that was a beautiful tough by Ibanez. Sometimes the little things count. 3. The neck is not a traditional classical neck which is straight the entire length, the Ibanez GA35TCEDVS neck is more similar to a steel string acoustic where it gets gradually smaller the closer you get to the head stock, and I don't know about others but I find this a LOT more comfortable to play on than a traditional bigger classical body neck. 4. The cut out. No need to say much about this other than if you play higher up on the fret board a lot, 12th and higher, this simple cutout is so helpful and makes playing songs easier for me. Less finger gymnastics. 5. Built in tuner is very helpful. I have an app on my phone which I've been using 'GuitarTuna' on my phone which is a great free app for quickly tuning guitars, but the onboard tuner of the Ibanez GA35TCEDVS is so easy to use I just use that now.     • I love this guitar
This is the first nylon string I’ve owned and I absolutely love it! The neck isn’t too thick or thin and neither is the body. I found myself reaching for this guitar more than my Yamaha acoustic that I have. It sounds good plugged in too.

    • Not a acoustic electric classical guitar
This is not an acoustic electric CLASSICAL guitar, despite the photo showing the rosette and the statement of nylon (classical) strings. The thinner body is nice for us smaller people, especially those of us with torn rotator cuffs in our shoulders (another reason I chose it), but that’s where the good news ends. I have several custom-built high-end classical guitars, and performed in an ensemble for many years. Miking the guitars was always a hassle. I was just curious to check out an inexpensive classical guitar with a built-in pick-up: acoustic-electric. This one sounds OK without amplification, but as soon as I played it I realized I was just playing a skinny acoustic (like what we used to call a steel-string or a “folk” guitar—it had a narrow, acoustic-guitar neck (a classical fret board is around 50% wider) with a truss rod; classicals don’t have a truss rod; so, my next thought was, Well, then, where’s my Allen wrench?). Also, it had 14 frets from nut to body, unlike a classical which has 12 frets from nut to body (in the case of a cutaway, you have to “imagine” the missing section of the body to count the frets—of course). Adding insult to injury, the case that was suggested for this guitar was about 2 inches too short. I just dragged it to UPS to return—for which I have to pay 12 bucks (another insult heaped upon injury). I did set up a return on the guitar as well, however my oldest son wanted to have it just to see what nylon strings were all about. I warned him not to try putting regular steel strings on it, no matter how low-tension, because even though the instrument obviously has a steel-string guitar neck, I couldn’t vouch that the “classical” design body could take the stress and might buckle. ... show more

There is one Polyphia video where the guys play a pair of these, so, since the signature models were sold out, I got one. Surprised with the high quality, though some say the intonation might need adjustment.
