Description

Slightly smaller and far more slender than a typical acoustic, Ibanez's GA35TCE thinline nylon-string acoustic-electric guitar is a comfortable fit for anyone from flatpickers to finger stylists alike. To give the GA35TCE a clear voice that suits blues and country, rock and pop equally well, Ibanez built this workhorse acoustic guitar with a back and sides made from mahogany. A solid spruce top balances out the GA35TCE's deep and rich low end with an even balance of midrange clarity and high-end sparkle. And to top it all off, you're even ready to take the stage thanks to the GA35TCE's Fishman pickups and AEQ210T preamp/tuner system. The combination Ibanez chose, a spruce top on a mahogany back and sides, has been a favorite among songwriters and live performers since the beginning of modern American music. Together, these tonewoods give the GA35TCE acoustic-electric guitar warm and present lows and clearly defined highs, leaving plenty of space in the midrange for your vocals. Whether you're the humblest of Saturday afternoon porch pickers or the seasoned pro who's been hauled from show to show a time or two, this Ibanez GA35TCE acoustic-electric nylon-string guitar was made for you. Everyone needs an inexpensive acoustic guitar you can pack up, head out, and run off with anytime you need, without worrying about damaging any priceless instruments. But your "beater" guitar doesn't need to sound bad, and the Ibanez GA35TCE is more than proof enough of that. In fact, its natural acoustic sound makes it a great campfire guitar, but it's small enough to be your new favorite couch guitar as well. The built-in AEQ210T preamp (complete with XLR out!) sounds great plugged in, so you'll most likely find yourself holding your new favorite stage guitar too when you take your GA35TCE acoustic-electric on stage!

  • I absolutely love it
I'm in love with this guitar, for a number of reasons. First of all let me just point out the one and only negative aspect of the guitar, and that's that it obviously won't sound as nice and rich as a regular full body classical guitar, since this is a slim body design and the body is almost half the thickness of a standard full body classical. I mean, that's a given, and if someone is looking for the best sounding classical guitar, I doubt they would be shopping for $300 hybrid style guitars like the Ibanez GA35TCEDVS. Now on to the positives, and there are many. 1. Being a slim line design is perfect for me since if I want it louder, I plug it in to my amp, headphones, and I can used a multitude of effect pedals with it to really play around with the sound, add some delays, reverb, etc. So the loss of that full body guitar sound is not an issue for me personally at all but it may be different for you. I personally love the way Ibanez GA35TCEDVS sounds both with and without an amp. For my purposed it is perfect. 2. I don't know if they did this on purpose, but the small circle inlay on the 7th fret is designed in a way where it shines and stands out more than the 3rd, 5th, 9th, and other inlays. This was a very nice surprised as the 7th fret is used for reference a lot of times in songs, so having it shine out a little brighter is wonderful. I have no idea if other Ibanez GA35TCEDVS models are like this too, if they are, that was a beautiful tough by Ibanez. Sometimes the little things count. 3. The neck is not a traditional classical neck which is straight the entire length, the Ibanez GA35TCEDVS neck is more similar to a steel string acoustic where it gets gradually smaller the closer you get to the head stock, and I don't know about others but I find this a LOT more comfortable to play on than a traditional bigger classical body neck. 4. The cut out. No need to say much about this other than if you play higher up on the fret board a lot, 12th and higher, this simple cutout is so helpful and makes playing songs easier for me. Less finger gymnastics. 5. Built in tuner is very helpful. I have an app on my phone which I've been using 'GuitarTuna' on my phone which is a great free app for quickly tuning guitars, but the onboard tuner of the Ibanez GA35TCEDVS is so easy to use I just use that now. Very helpful. 6. Last but not least, the looks. The Ibanez GA35TCEDVS is one of the most beautiful looking acoustic guitars I've ever seen and owned. ... show more

  • Excellent playability. Highly versatile for different styles.
I bought an Ibanez GA3ECE Nylon-string Acoustic-electric Guitar last month. For the money it is a great guitar, especially if you can do your own setup. It needs a lot of work to get it to play extremely well. But I found it unwieldy. I have played electric (and some acoustic) semi-professionally for 50+ years. I am focusing on nylon string music at the moment. I played live last week, and really fought with the size of the guitar. So I did a lot of research. The Tim Henson guitars (in 2 price points) looked interesting, but there have been lots of complaints about their construction. I found the Ibanez GA35TCEDVS. For the price I thought it was worth trying. It seems to solve the body size problem, and the width of the neck at the nut is perfect for my style. I have been looking for awhile for an electric that has a neck width approaching this, and failed, at least in an 'obtainable' guitar. The stock strings were average at best. They weren't horrible, but I always put new strings on all guitars I buy. I read that Dominic Miller (Sting's guitarist) uses extra hard tension nylon strings. I put on a set of D'Addario Pro Arté Nylon Classical Guitar Strings, EJ44, Extra Hard Tension. Very interesting tone. I have read that steel string players find hard or extra hard tension strings to be more natural feeling & easier to get used to. This is true for me as well. I would say that these strings on this guitar sound very much like my 'jazz box' & semi-hollow electric guitars. Not exactly 'classical guitar' sounding with these strings, but I don't play classical pieces, and I play with hybrid picking. The construction on this guitar is quite good for the price. I may round off the fret ends at some point, but they are comfortable enough that I don't need to do it immediately. I play with an extremely low action on all my guitars, so I decided to see how low I could get the action on this guitar. I did file down the nut slots to get the height perfect, but a casual player should not need to have that done. I sanded down the bridge and got the action lower, but the stock action was actually on the very low side for a 'classical guitar'. In all, for the price, I find this to be a professional-grade acoustic/electric instrument that should need little to no setup. For a true classical guitarist, this does not have the projection (volume) unplugged, tone or proper neck size. But for beginners, people with smaller hands, or a gigging musician needing a versatile acoustic sound, this is the perfect instrument. ... show more

  • I hated this guitar at first.
I bought this guitar because I wanted a nylon but didn’t want to spend a bunch of money on a maybe. I absolutely hated the sound of this guitar at first. To me it sounded like a toy. I changed out the tuners because the oem ones didn’t hold tune very well. Changed to a set of nickel wound hard tendon strings, now that the wood has started to open up it sounds night and day different. I am glad that I bought this and play it all the time. It is very comfortable ... show more
