I purchased this book for my 3 soon to be 4 yr old nephew for his birthday in a couple of days. I hesitated purchasing it because honestly I'm not a big fan of LBJ but after reading the reviews I knew he and his 2 yr old sister would love it. BTW, my nephew loves Lebron and we give him a hard time. (lol just kidding well not really) I just received it and read it...and I LOVED it! We do story time everyday where they each choose a book along with myself. They both love to read and love books which is important. I'm an avid reader and want to pass on the love books to them. I know this will become a favorite very quickly and be chosen several times a week to where I'll have to say "Again? Really?". I can't wait to give it to him. Regardless of my feelings, I'm so glad I purchased the book because it's not about me. It's about them enjoying books and the wonders of reading. GREAT JOB Lebron! The kids are making promises to themselves to be great people in life and put to put in the work it requires to be great. This book is what every child (and adult) needs to read. It is beautifully written and illustrated. It provides the motivation we all need to hear in a loving way. I don’t have children but I have bought this as a gift for everyone I know who does. They have all come back with thanks and praise for how wonderful this book is. Update- bought 2 more for cousins as a part of their Christmas gift. Love this book! Bought this for my 5 year old twins, love the character building in the story as well as the diversity. Pictures are vibrant, bold, and beautiful. We have loved reading this at bedtime and have used the I promise mantra throughout our daily routine. My daughter has a hard time losing and this has helped her get past her feelings and try again. Plan on buying some for family and friends during the holidays. ... show more

The book has brilliant and engaging illustrations that reflect multiculturalism in a most positive light. My two year-old grandson adores the colors and story. He puts it with “The Little engine that could” book on his book shelf. He wants to read the Promise book at least four times a week. As an adult I endorse the book’message and I have bought a copy for my children’s books section of my library. I have also given copies as gifts to adults and children. Myself and my husband have always been huge fans of Lebron James. I teach first grade and know that my students will be so excited to see this book. Lebron did a fantastic job at emphasizing the importance of working hard, not giving up and always working as a team. This book teaches anyone great life lessons.
