I’ve been using the HyperX Cloud III S Wireless Gaming Headset since November 22, 2025, and as of writing this review on May 5, 2026, I’ve used it nearly daily for over 5 months. I’m no stranger to HyperX products. My very first headset from them was the HyperX Cloud II Gaming Headset (wired version) nearly 10 years ago — and to this day it still works. The only issue is that the wiring has started slightly coming undone over time, which feels fair after nearly a decade of use. For me, HyperX has always been synonymous with one thing: comfort. And over the years, I unfortunately learned how rare that actually is. I switched away from HyperX for a while and tried other headsets: - Corsair Virtuoso — this had the best mic quality I’ve ever used and I constantly got compliments/questions about how clear I sounded. But the headband was so uncomfortable that I genuinely started worrying it was causing hair breakage/friction issues. A friend experienced something similar, and I eventually couldn’t tolerate wearing it anymore. - Drop + EPOS Sennheiser PC38X Gaming Headset — I wanted to love this one, but the mic was way too sensitive. It picked up everything — breathing, tiny noises, background sounds — and I constantly had to tweak NVIDIA Broadcast, Voicemeeter, OBS Studio, and Discord settings just to sound normal. The wiring also started getting messy over time. - Cherry Xtrfy H3 Wireless Headset — uncomfortable, finicky, and felt like it was trying to do too much at once without doing any of it particularly well. After all of that, I made a simple list of what I actually wanted in my next headset: - Wireless - Comfortable - Good sound quality That rabbit hole eventually led me to the HyperX Cloud III S Wireless Gaming Headset. I’ve been using it since November 22, 2025, and as of writing this review (May 1, 2026), I’ve used it nearly every day. And to me, the sign of a truly great headset is when you forget you’re even wearing one because it’s that comfortable. That’s exactly what this headset does. I can wear it for long gaming sessions, work calls, videos, music, and general daily use without constantly adjusting it or feeling pressure on my head. Huge win. The mic has also been refreshingly low-maintenance. Unlike my Sennheiser setup, I haven’t needed to buy a pop filter or endlessly tweak settings just to avoid weird audio issues. Setup was straightforward, sound quality has been solid, and overall it’s been very easy to use. That said, I do have a few complaints: - The detachable mic behavior confused me. I assumed removing the physical mic meant people wouldn’t hear me anymore. That was NOT the case. I found that out the hard way when I said something while the mic was detached and my friend responded. I was genuinely jump scared. Apparently, if you actually want people to stop hearing you, you still need to manually hit the mute button on the headset or mute yourself in Discord. That feels unintuitive because most people would naturally assume: mic removed = mic off - I also wish the mute button was placed somewhere more intuitive. There are multiple buttons on both sides of the headset and sometimes I have to feel around to remember what does what. It would make more sense if the mute button were closer to where the mic attaches. - Another small downside: the wireless range isn’t amazing. If you walk too far from your setup, your audio can get static-y for the people you’re talking to — and the frustrating part is you often won’t even realize it unless someone tells you. Not a huge issue if you stay near your desk, but worth noting. - My other major complaint is the charging cable it comes with. It’s way too short. If you have your PC on the ground and want to charge the headset by plugging it into your PC, you are essentially forced to set the headset down on the ground for it to charge. I don't have any pets, but I can clearly see how a cat or a dog could step onto this and break or mess it up; it's also not the cleanest option or preferable. Your kind of forced to have an applicable charging cable to avoid this that's longer. Sometimes the battery gets low when I’m actively using the headset and I’d love to plug it in and continue using it comfortably — but the included cable makes that annoying. And while the battery life does feel long, I honestly can’t verify the advertised 120-hour battery claim because there’s no great way to track battery percentage. Eventually I just hear: "low battery… low battery…" And I’m left wondering: How much time do I actually have left? 10 minutes? An hour? A more precise battery indicator through software would be a huge improvement. And for the price point — even though I bought mine on sale — I do wish it came with a nicer carrying case similar to what Sony includes with some of their headphones for travel/storage. That said… This headset nails the things I care about most: comfort, wireless convenience, and reliable sound quality. After years of bouncing between different brands trying to find “better,” I somehow ended up back with HyperX — and I’m very happy I did. Still an easy 5 stars for me. It meets my core needs extremely well, and while there’s room for improvement, this has easily been one of the most comfortable headsets I’ve owned.

Great battery life, great build quality, and great value for a device that works with both bluetooth and PC. (You have to switch between the two modes so it's not seamless but it's 'quick' taking only a few seconds). Volume is not quite as granular as I'd like it, but that's about the only complaint. Built-in microphone is great, boom mic is better, but you don't need it. Very comfortable, only gets annoying after all-day usage. Stays on your head mostly, but it can slowly slip. Overall, best headset I've owned and I've purchased MUCH more expensive ones (and regretted them). The only reason you might go for something else might be for audiophile quality, but if you want an all-round great headset for work, conversations, and gaming - this is your best value. Music quality is good - not gonna beat Sennheiser or Bose, but you're also not paying those prices. Also, if you do gaming, the wireless dongle keeps latency low (unlike if you use a Bluetooth headset).

The HyperX Cloud III S Wireless is an astonishing product. I have the OG Cloud III Wireless and they're amazing themselves. I hesitated when I heard and saw reviews of this thing of people saying this is actually better than the OG. I paused and thought no way.... so I thought to myself I'll try these to see if the reviews are true to form, then I'll likely return them within the 30 day window. So here they are, and they're seriously IMPRESSIVE!!! I want to say that the sound on these is legit. Absolutely legit. The mids and highs are improved and crystal clear. The bass is newly tuned and doesn't sound "muddy" to where it drowns out the mids. It's just perfect now and sounds natural. Gaming headsets have come such a long way to the point they now compete with $800-1000 dollar wired headsets. No lie. They're comfy; like little pillows on your hears. I just wanna wear them around everywhere haha. The sound? Top notch. The battery? Legit 120 hours. Can go several days without charge. The mic? Sounds great. Much improved over the OG. Love the dual 2.4ghz/Bluetooth connectivity. Honestly, should've been implemented in the OG, but at least we have it now. The big thing about these is the on board memory. You can now tune the EQ on the NGENUITY software on PC. You can save several profiles. Tune the 10 band equalizer to your liking. You can make these even louder than stock. Honestly, these sound amazing with factory settings. But you now have the option to tune them right to your liking. And YES, the settings save to your headphones and it'll automatically apply to your PS5 or Switch 2. That's a big feature many will miss out on. They sound great with gaming, music & movies alike. Very immersive for all 3. Makes gaming more interactive and helpful hearing stuff in a 360 degree radius. Helpful for competitive FPS multi-player. If you want top notch headphones with comfort, quality, great sound for gaming, music or movies, quality detachable mic, long lasting battery... these are yours. Seriously, don't consider anything else. These are worth it. Just get them and be Seriously imoressed!! A MUST BUY!!

Excellent headset! It's far better (because it actually works) than one I bought (and returned) that cost twice as much. It's comfortable, supports both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth (with excellent range), and has amazing battery life. Oh, and did I say that the sound quality is superior?

TLDR; 5 star hardware, meh software that isn't needed (for the most part) These are the best sounding gaming headphones I've used, good enough to use FT. Check out the YT review on them from The Headphone Show to learn about them. Not only that, but a long lasting battery that I haven't needed to recharge (after the initial charge) for the month I've had them and I may get 2 months out of them at this rate. And they're very comfortable. They have a low clamping force, the opposite of the other headphones I've used, but not so low that they're going to fly off when I turn my head. The caveat being that I have a large head, I don't know if they'll be overly loose on smaller heads. The SW for these on the other hand, I've had trouble with. HyperX has changed over apps that they use, and the headphones I got won't work with the old version of the software that many people say is the better one to use. I don't know why it doesn't show up in the program, it's been tried on 2 computers. The headphones show up in the new version of their app, but even then still has issues with installing. As it is, I just use the version for firmware updating purposes, and will have to assume it will even do that correctly since it's at the current version already. The headphones work fine without the software running, some people prefer a 3rd party EQ app that gives more control that what is in HyperX's app. One other issue is DTS:X. They keep talking about "lifetime activation" for it, but I don't have it. The DTS Unbound app does not give me the license. I think HyperX is dropping the free license because I notice on the box I have, there is no DTS:X logo on the front of it. Compared to the pictures of the box from other people, including in an Amazon review, those boxes had the logo on the front. So that kinda stinks. I'm bummed out about the negatives and think about if I should return these, but then I think about how 95% of the reason I bought these is for the hardware (and I got it on sale), so that's why it still got 4 stars. As long as you're fine with the SW potential limitations and you're just wanting good hardware, then I recommend these all day.

Let me preface this before I get started: I have been DEVOUTLY buying only HyperX headsets for most of my life because of their excellent sound and metal construction. My very first Kingston HyperX Cloud are still usable and I have bought multiple colors of the HyperX Cloud Alpha wired. These Cloud 3 S Wireless are the biggest disgrace I have purchased so far, no contest. The only positive thing is that they're comfortable. I updated the headset firmware and adapter firmware and the program itself, and restarted my PC before doing anything. This Cloud 3 S Wireless is still built well, but every HyperX *wireless* headset I've ever tried falls extremely flat in the sound department compared to wired with even the worst audio controller. Every few years I buy one on sale just to try and see if it's gotten any better. No. Not even remotely. The app feels underbaked and half of the features to even get the headset to sound half decent require excessive configuration and other apps running at the same time in tandem. You need to also download DTS Unbound on Windows to unlock the other half of the features and make the headphones sound like they're even turned on more than partially. Thankfully they actually are included with these headphones. So, great, right? No. It adds some spaciousness and vague directionality to the audio coming from the game or whatever you may be interacting with. These headphones require an excessive amount of equalizer and changing Windows settings just to make them sound *slightly* better than a pair of the free headphones you get at the library. The audio signature is extremely hollow, has next to no bass, and sounds multiple times worse than using my wired HyperX Cloud Alpha plugged into a controller. At best after equalizing you have a distorted, garbled mess of random sounds not sounding how they're supposed to due to the extreme equalizer necessary. The audio sounds like the headphones are getting half of the power that they need in order to operate, if you can imagine that. The other main reason I bought this headset is for the mic monitoring. However, the microphone is abysmally short and barely reaches your mouth, and can barely be bent or shaped AT ALL before it tries slowly reverting to the original position it was in. The mic monitoring was going to be the saving grace for me; and it's HORRENDOUS. It's about 1/3 as loud as it needs to be to sound like you're actually hearing yourself, especially with a loud game going. The volume of it is not configurable in any way aside from on or off. Even if you put the microphone inside of your mouth (pretty much) the mic monitoring is MAYBE half as loud as it needs to be. It still sounds like you're hearing yourself through headphones which eliminates the entire purpose of the feature. Extreme miss and this is the other half of why I'm returning this instantly after receiving them today. I just can't get over how god awful HyperX's wireless headsets have been since they started making them and how insanely perfect the wired headsets have been for what, 20 years?! Get yourself one of their wired headsets and skip needing a PhD to make your expensive headset sound like a 3 out of 10 after an hour of toying with settings. Use Case (Non-Gaming, Professional) My use case for the HyperX Cloud S Wireless is atypical, as I am not a gamer. I teach online classes and spend most of my day speaking and listening to people over video calls. After trying three other headsets—including a bone-conduction model with a microphone—I finally found a setup that truly works for this kind of sustained, voice-centric use. Core Problem Solved: Ambient Noise One of my main challenges was dealing with ambient noise in public spaces (background music, nearby conversations, general café noise). I often want to work outside the house just to change the scenery, and with these headphones, that is finally possible. I have used them in very noisy environments, and people on the other end of the call heard none of it. The microphone does an excellent job isolating my voice and rejecting background noise. This is the single biggest strength of this headset for my use case. Software & Customization These headphones do require some dialing in out of the box, but the customization options make that worthwhile. The ability to adjust EQ, microphone levels, and other settings through the Ngenuity software is excellent. I went through multiple iterations (with some help from ChatGPT) to optimize the settings, and once tuned, the results were outstanding. Comfort Issues (and Fixes) Out of the box, I personally found these headphones uncomfortable—enough that it almost became a dealbreaker. However, I liked the functionality so much that I decided to modify them rather than return them. Headband pressure: I added a suspension strap from Capra Audio, which completely solved the comfort issue and eliminated concerns about head indentation. This matters when you are wearing them 5–6 hours a day. Earpad discomfort: The stock earpad material caused noticeable discomfort over time. My solution was simple and effective: a pack of thick black ankle socks. I cut off the foot portion and wrapped the ankle section around each ear cup, which significantly improved comfort. Comparison to Other Headphones I have owned high-end headphones from Sony and Bose and never needed to make these kinds of comfort modifications. That said, despite those drawbacks, the HyperX Cloud S Wireless performs better for my specific use case—especially in terms of microphone quality and background noise isolation during calls. Bottom Line These are not perfect out of the box, and they may require some tweaking—both in software and physically. However, for anyone who spends long hours on calls and needs strong voice isolation in noisy environments, they outperform more expensive “premium” headphones where it actually matters.
