I think my Dad would have been pretty impressed with these 70 watt LED shop lights. A long time ago, he installed a number of 4 foot fluorescent fixtures in our basement and garage. They gave us many years of dependable service but they've been starting to fail, and LED technology has surpassed them on a number of fronts. And I hate changing fluorescent bulbs! This Hykolity brand is the first set I've purchased, and so far they seem to be a good value for the money. These lights have a fairly robust metal backside but they have a much lower profile and weigh significantly less than the old fluorescent units. They have soft plastic diffusers covering the LEDS. The garage fixtures I replaced were also hung by chains, so these were really easy to install on the existing eye hooks. Up to four fixtures can be 'linked' together (provided they are close enough to each other for the installed 4.5' power cords to reach). The switch pull chains on the units I received are metal ball chains, which I prefer to 'string' cords that were pictured on the web page. They are very bright for just a 70 watt draw, provide even illumination, and unlike the old fluorescent fixtures, their performance does not appear to be affected by cold temps (so far). Finally, they are rated at 50,000 of performance, so if my math is correct that works out to about 12 years of service, if they were operated for 12 hours a day, which is no where near how long we'll be using them on a typical day. Super bright, easy to install. Great value, given the brightness. Very lightweight. I guess I misread the description, though. I thought I’d be able to turn on/off both lights if they were connected. Nope! Not a big deal for my use case though. If your sticking point is whether these will be bright enough, let me assure you that these 300w-equivalent 70w LED light fixtures kick out tons of brightness. They also spread light more widely than my old fluorescent fixture. They do feel fragile, so be careful during installation. ... show more

These are very bright and excellent for workplace lighting. I hung them from the "ceiling"- basement joists- over a work bench and one REALLY illuminates the bench well- like daylight. The other one is hanging over another bench behind the first one. Together, they light the whole 15x 20 room. I only use them one at a time they are so bright. The diffuser was a "must have" and these diffusers are excellent. Hardware was adequate (used my own screw hooks) and the housing is designed for the included hanger chains. I like everything about these lights except the 4 inch pull cord, I couldn't even reach it so I just added a longer pull-cord (still annoying). I would (and probably will) buy these again and recommend them for ceiling height garage or overhead bench lighting. ... show more

    • Let there be LIGHT! And lots of it!

I bought this 2-pack of 4' shop lights to replace the incandescent workshop fixtures that were hard-wired in my basement. I hadn't realized you can no longer purchase 4' fluorescent tube lights because they've stopped manufacturing them. I read the reviews and agree on several points: 1. The tops of the light fixtures DO get hot. Normally LED bulbs are pretty cool to the touch, but with the light these put out, they are definitely hot. This is important to note because... 2. The housing is flimsy. Cheap. The plastic housing containing the bulbs is flexible, and when it heats up, I worry about it bending or warping, but so far after a couple of weeks, they've held up. I do make it a point to not leave them on all day though. 3. They are BRIGHT. They're what you'd call "daylight" bulbs, that give off a bright, cold, bluish-white light, like a surgical bay. These are not the warm, pleasant yellowish glow of normal household lighting for sure. And using 2 fixtures is damn near like lighting a small indoor arena. 4. The cord is exactly as long as advertised (60.2 inches long, or 5 feet, 2 inches). But... If you're looking at mounting these across from each other (not end-to-end, but parallel, the cord really needs to be at least 6' long. Truth is, the cord *should* just be 6' to begin with. Were they worth the price? So far, I think yes because of their brightness, ease of setup, and pull-cords to shut individual fixtures off, but they get a 4-Star rating because of the questionable "quality" of the product housing and the shorter power cord (each fixture comes with its own power cord, which plugs into a standard US wall outlet, or another 4' light fixture paired with this type). ... show more

My fluorescent shop lights were dozens of years old & began to go out. You can see these in my photo leaning against my workbench. I researched replacements and found that LED upgrades were the better route to go with lower electricity costs and longer life span. Surprisingly, these cost less than replacing or repairing my florescent fixtures! The biggest plus was the upgraded brightness with LED lamps offering more lumens. I bought these as a pair at a great price, less expensive than comparable shop lights of all sorts. They arrived swiftly, well packed with all mounting hardware and power cords. These four foot long shop lights actually take up less space than my two-bulb florescent fixtures they replace. They are considerably lighter too! Included in the package are chains to hang the fixture with along with a hook that can be embedded in a wood stud. Also included are anchors for sheetrock with mounting screws. I elected to use the chains as my ceiling has the popcorn texture preventing a flush mount with screws and anchors. This took me about ten minutes start to finish including removal of the old fixture! There is a three-prong grounded plug with nice cable length attached. Each fixture also has a three-prong outlet that you can use to daisy chain one fixture to another allowing greater reach away from the outlet. A chain-pull on/off switch is built in but I have my outlet on a wall switch, so I leave the chain switch on all of the time. The light output from each fixture is very bright indeed! Mine are mounted close to the wall, directly over my workbench and I'm extremely satisfied with the increased brightness on my bench. I like these so much that I plan to purchase a couple more double packs for the center of the shop and for another hobby room! ... show more
