Works perfectly. I didn't bother to try a valve shutoff while pressurized, wasn't necessary. Easy to use. First I connected to bathroom sink after removing the faucet aerator. With the nozzle end in my hand I turned on the water with and felt for the vacuum at the nozzle. Then I walked the hose to the tank and began vacuuming. Once done the device suctioned the hose mostly dry and I turned off the water. To fill I dosed with conditioner for the whole volume of the tank. I kept the valve on suction and felt the water coming out at the bottom to make sure I had the right temperature for the tank, then (while my wife held the discharge nozzle at the tank) slowly turned the valve to send water to the tank. Every so often I turned the valve a little and let it spray out the bottom onto my hand and into the drain to make sure the temp was still correct. Within a few minutes the tank was refilled. No more carrying water buckets!!! This thing works. Simple. Effective. Most complaints I have read are from users who decide to use the valve on the tank side or sink side to shut off flow, pressurizing the system. Unless you have it connected correctly leaks will happen and the hose could blow off the fitting. No need to pressurize it if you have a someone at the tank to tell you exactly when to turn of the faucet. After filling all you have to do is switch the valve back to vacuum and turn on the faucet, roll up the hose as you go and keep it high enough for all the water to be sucked out. Tip: You don't have to fill at full pressure but you do have to vacuum with the faucet on full pressure. ... show more

This thing is amazing! No more lugging buckets of water to change 30 gallons of water out of my 75 gallon tank. And with the 50' hose I can reach almost all of my tanks from one faucet. Only regret is that I waited so long to get one of these!

It is easy to use to fill and drain the tank. However it doesn’t have much suction power and it doesn’t really clean the gravel. The debris in the rock no matter how small doesn’t really come up the tube. Might be the length of tubing is too long. I’m going to shorten it today and see if it makes a difference next time I use it. ... show more

To start off, it comes with multiple attachments to fit different sized faucets. We found the perfect fit for our kitchen sink. I was skeptical because I tried the aqueon water changer once and it was extremely pressure based and so hard to get to work. I ended up just using buckets for years but I decided to look for a better water changer when I upgraded to my 50 gallon tank. Easy to turn on and use. I was AMAZED by how easy it was to completely fill my tank. Keep in mind that a 50 gallon tank took about 20-30 minutes to fill. Smaller tanks would take even less time. Less mess! No leaks! No buckets! I soaked my sand for a few days after cleaning it so that it would clump and be harder to disrupt. I used this water changer to add water AFTER adding sand. I bounced the water off a paper plate so it wouldn't hit the sand directly. My tank is CLEAR! Minimum sand disruption. Worth the money? Heck yes!!!! I mean look at the photo. Crystal clear! Instead of hauling buckets because you are scared of wasting money, give this water changer a try. ... show more

An easy way to vacuum the gravel while draining water, On/off switch to stop/start the water flow right on the handle. We attach it to the patio faucet as it is handy - so we can turn on the faucet but control the flow from the handle of the hygger. cleans gravel, removes water, then reverse the process and pump water back in. I was so excited to use this product and as soon as it was delivered, I went right to using it. Even with my water full blast, the suction wasn't strong enough to pick up debris at the bottom of my axolotl tank. The plastic piece that goes inside the tank is unnecessarily large and is very awkward to handle since it gets pretty heavy with all of the water going through it. I thought fine, I can use my cheap gravel vac to get the dirty out then use this product to at least fill it since that's when I tend to spill the most water and easy tank filling sounds like a dream. Well, I thought wrong. The first few seconds were great and I was very excited to easily fill my tank and as soon as I had that thought, the tube fell off and water went everywhere. Being away from the sink it took a few seconds to get to. I attached the hose yet again as far as it would go and continued on hoping it was user error. A few seconds later, it happened again. That time I didn't even move it, I simply let it in the tank to fill just in case. Once again, water all over the place. Extremely disappointed with the performance of this product. ... show more

Emptying your tank requires suction, which means full pressure water from the sink is wasted in order to create suction to pull your old water from the tank. Great waste of a precious resource sadly. The metal hardware is nice, and flexible. Fits a garbed hose and my sink very well. Love the added quick connect. Adding other quick connects allows the process to be quicker. Sadly a great deal of pressure is require to suck the water. The ideal sink in my home for cleaning the tank does not provide enough pressure, so I have to hook it up to a less ideal bathroom sink in order to get the job done. Not sure what the problem is but I’ll have to investigate. In general the device works as advertised but honestly is more work then a hand pump and a bucket. Takes longer, and requires me to use an outdoor hose so at least the waste water is feed to my plants and bushes. If you have a large tank perhaps this is worth it. For smaller tanks I think this is more hassle then its worth. ... show more

It's a syphon. Brass hardware and attachments work well. I don't see how the competitor can do much better for almost double the price.
