  • Easy to use and effective
Pattern Name: 1 - Gravel
I bought this for daily waste removal from the bottom of an aquatic turtle tank, and it works really well for that purpose. Our tank is too big to use this for full water exchanges in a timely manner (we use an electric submersible pump for that), but this is perfect for quickly removing solid waste and a little dirty water to a waste bucket. I first tried a manual syphon (from another brand) and it worked well to remove waste, but the bulb pump took a lot of effort to start. I then tried an electric vacuum (from the same brand as this) that filters and returns the water to the tank, and it was less trouble to start but the filtration wasn't great. This was a good middle ground. It takes a few trigger pulls to start the suction since the tank is fairly deep, but it's much easier than the bulb and doesn't require electricity, and it extracts waste cleanly. The clip that attaches to the waste bucket isn't wonderful and occasionally pops free, so I have to keep an eye on that, but otherwise, this has been one of the handier cleaning tools I've bought for tank maintenance. ... show more

  • AIR-PRESSING BOTTON WATER CLEANER
Pattern Name: 1 - Gravel
It is easy to put together and easy to use. I used it with the orange tip because I have small fish. It sucks out the water fast, but it does pick up the junk on the bottom. the filter gets plugged up with all the junk. I tried to use the regulator on the hose, but it would not pick up any junk. While cleaning the sand it was picking up a lot of sand and it was not releasing it since it had the tip. It sucked half of the water out and I still did not finish cleaning the bottom. I think if you were to clean it every other week or at least once a month, you should be good. This fishtank had 1 year without being cleaned out and I think that's why I couldn't clean it out completely, but it does look better. ... show more

  • Easy to use.
Pattern Name: 1 - Gravel
I like how much easier it is to syphon the water out of the tank. I always had trouble getting the suction started with just the hose. With the trigger pull it is much easier.

  • Suction gun doesn't work after 1 use
Pattern Name: 1 - Gravel
I've purchased two of these in total, about a month apart. The first one worked great the first time I used it. The second one worked great the first time I used it as well. Today I tried to use the newest one (the second one) again, because it's a new tank and I'm doing multiple water changes as my fish are new too and are getting quarantine meds. But it won't work. It just doesn't suck up water. The trigger gun suction is the whole beauty of this item and it doesn't work after just one use. I'm returning it. But I still need to do a water change so I went and grabbed the first one (the older one) and tried to use that one, and same exact deal. Zero suction. That trigger gun just has no ooomph now. You can feel the difference when you're pulling the trigger. It's crazy that it just stopped working after one time for both of them! They could not have worked more perfectly the first time I used each of them. So to recap, I have two of these that only worked one time each. One is outside the 30-day return period by about 8 days and one is inside of it and is being returned. I will contact Hygger about the one that's outside of the return period. It's too expensive of an item for a one-time use only. I have no idea how I just randomly happened to get two bad ones or if people are just not updating their original reviews, but buyer beware. They don't last like they should. Hygger is a good name, or at least I thought it was supposed to be good, but this is not a quality product like I would have expected from them. ... show more

  • Works great at first but doesn’t last.
Pattern Name: 1 - Gravel
Almost perfect but would be better with a gravel guard closer to the tip. Works well for a while but Breaks very easily after a couple months of use.

  • Works with little mess.
Pattern Name: 1 - Gravel
Wow, first use but impressed. Been using the old fashion fish syphone and always was a mess. This worked easily to pull out water with just a few pumps highly recommended for water changes and gravel cleaning.

  • Broke after one use. Don't recommend for Fluval Betta Gravel (or any fine gravel).
Pattern Name: 1 - Gravel
The product is easy to assemble and use, and has perfectly good suction. I got it because I was struggling to get a normal siphon going. The first time I used it was fantastic, and I just had to practice putting a kink in the hose to increase and decrease the suction. Unfortunately, the second use is when things went wrong. I have betta tanks with fine grain gravel from Fluval designed specifically to be gentle on betta fins. No matter how careful I was, little bits of that gravel would get sucked through the siphon into my bucket. (Not much, maybe a tablespoon.) The second time I tried to use the Hygger siphon, the trigger would depress but no water would get sucked into the siphon. Drying the apparatus out didn't work, and it can't be taken apart to check if there's any stuck gravel interfering with the function. I returned the first siphon and got a second, and the same thing happened. I resorted to scouring YouTube for How-To videos on normal low tech siphons, and finally found a technique that worked for me. Moral of the story- low tech has been the standard for a reason, and I'll be sticking with it from now on. If you still want to try this product, my recommendation is to only use it on larger gravel or river stones, but nothing fine grained. I wish I had sand substrate to test it on, but I'm not confident that wouldn't cause issues too. ... show more

  • FINALLY getting my gravel clean!
Pattern Name: 1 - Gravel
I have had the worst time getting the gravel in my aquarium really clean, and this vacuum is a life-saver! As others have stated, once it gets going the suction is very fast so do keep an eye on your bucket as well as your water level in your tank as you work. Also, yes, towards the end of cleaning I had to really keep pulling the trigger to get it to pump but I didn’t mind that. All that said, my water and my gravel were noticeably cleaner after just one use and i was sincerely impressed by the amount of gunk it managed to remove. I’ve tried so many different products to clean my gravel. I tried this one as a last resort and i am so glad I did. Never looking back. Ordering another for our turtle tank. I’m so grateful for this product! ... show more
