  • Easy to use and effective
Pattern Name: 1 - Gravel
I bought this for daily waste removal from the bottom of an aquatic turtle tank, and it works really well for that purpose. Our tank is too big to use this for full water exchanges in a timely manner (we use an electric submersible pump for that), but this is perfect for quickly removing solid waste and a little dirty water to a waste bucket. I first tried a manual syphon (from another brand) and it worked well to remove waste, but the bulb pump took a lot of effort to start. I then tried an electric vacuum (from the same brand as this) that filters and returns the water to the tank, and it was less trouble to start but the filtration wasn't great. This was a good middle ground. It takes a few trigger pulls to start the suction since the tank is fairly deep, but it's much easier than the bulb and doesn't require electricity, and it extracts waste cleanly. The clip that attaches to the waste bucket isn't wonderful and occasionally pops free, so I have to keep an eye on that, but otherwise, this has been one of the handier cleaning tools I've bought for tank maintenance. ... show more

  • Worked Well for About Two Years
Pattern Name: 1 - Gravel
It did the job for me for about two years. During that time, it worked well and was easy to use. Giving four stars only because it didn't last longer than that. The pumping mechanism got weaker, recently, to the point that it no longer has enough force to pull water out of the aquarium at a consistent rate. ... show more

  • Great item for starters
Pattern Name: 1 - Gravel
This item worked as it should and fit in my 9 gallon planted Fluval Flex tank. I needed something narrow and small for the plants, small fish life and wood items in my tank. I have only used it once and it worked great. I was able to control the water flow as I was worried that a larger unit would take too much water out at one cleaning. Item seems it's built to last, and I have other items from this brand therefore I can trust this brand for the right tools. ... show more

  • Suction gun doesn't work after 1 use
Pattern Name: 1 - Gravel
I've purchased two of these in total, about a month apart. The first one worked great the first time I used it. The second one worked great the first time I used it as well. Today I tried to use the newest one (the second one) again, because it's a new tank and I'm doing multiple water changes as my fish are new too and are getting quarantine meds. But it won't work. It just doesn't suck up water. The trigger gun suction is the whole beauty of this item and it doesn't work after just one use. I'm returning it. But I still need to do a water change so I went and grabbed the first one (the older one) and tried to use that one, and same exact deal. Zero suction. That trigger gun just has no ooomph now. You can feel the difference when you're pulling the trigger. It's crazy that it just stopped working after one time for both of them! They could not have worked more perfectly the first time I used each of them. So to recap, I have two of these that only worked one time each. One is outside the 30-day return period by about 8 days and one is inside of it and is being returned. I will contact Hygger about the one that's outside of the return period. It's too expensive of an item for a one-time use only. I have no idea how I just randomly happened to get two bad ones or if people are just not updating their original reviews, but buyer beware. They don't last like they should. Hygger is a good name, or at least I thought it was supposed to be good, but this is not a quality product like I would have expected from them. ... show more

  • Just a siphon with a pump handle to get started
Pattern Name: 1 - Gravel
First off, make sure you have the tank 19" above where you are emptying the water. It works ok to siphon the water, but the suction is only as good as you would get with any siphon. Takes a lot of pulls of the trigger to get siphoning started. So much that after one use with a 25% water change on a 40 gallon tank my hand was sore. The clamps that it come with to hold the hose onto your bucket do not have enough strength to hold onto a bucket. Ended up taking two people, one to pump, one to hold the hose in the bucket. Once it got going it did a decent job of removing debris from the tank. When done removing water, the water and debris left in the plastic tube on the handle will dump back into your tank. Probably best to catch that in a cup or bowl to prevent it from disturbing your substrate and dumping debris back in the tank. Overall it gets the job done but could definitely use some improvements. ... show more

  • suitable for bigger tank
Pattern Name: 1 - Gravel
I bought this one cos I am BAD at dimensions, the product works very well itself, but if you are like me have a 6 gal tank or less than 10 gal tank, specially if your tank is not wide open on the top, you might wanna look for a smaller one, the suction power is awesome, I could easily get all the wast off, but the problem is it is rather too big for my 6 gal tank, when water start flowing I have top 3 min to finish cleaning otherwise my tank would be dry, and I end up changing to much of the water out. Which as you know is not good for the beneficial bacteria in the tank. This is a product I will keep for my bigger tank in the future, but PLEASE double check your tank size and tool size before you purchase. ... show more

  • Great packaging for a garbage product
Pattern Name: 3 - Gravel/Net/Brush
I bought this vacuum because I’ve heard good reviews on their heaters. The packaging was great, everything was there. I immediately set it to use it and took about 36-40 pulls of the trigger to get it going which was a little rough on my arthritis. Once it got going it had great suction. Which in theory is a good thing except the gravel was stuck in a vortex within the tube and one or two pieces would fall out at at time so you’re draining more water while trying to get the rocks to fall out. I figured it was too much for my fish tank and moved onto my turtle tank and that’s where it ended. It sucked up the sand and clogged within seconds. Tried to clear the blockage but you can’t get inside of the gun without disassembling and from then on it would not suck anymore. So I threw it away. If you had a bare bottom tank, it may work great but not with substrate of any kind. ... show more
