    • A capable light source for a low-tech, low-light 10-gallon tank!

I've just finished setting up my first planted aquarium (10 gallon). I had been searching for a good light source and new I wanted one that had a timer so I didn't have to remember to turn on and shut off everyday. All the YouTube videos and online recommendations veered toward the Finnex Stingray or lights of equivalent price points. Being my first aquarium, I didn't want to get carried away and overspend on every last detail. I decided to roll the dice on this light knowing I could always return it, and I am very glad I did. Physically speaking, the light itself has a very low profile and sits roughly 1" above the rim of the tank (maybe less). It gives off very little heat, and the sliding brackets adjust to the tank smoothly and sits securely. The quality and build are very good, and, to be sure of the reliability, I ran this light at full intensity for a week, 24 hours a day, then another full week on the 24/7 timer without any issues. The light itself at maximum intensity is BRIGHT. The basic features include full spectrum light (with options to change the lighting to a single spectrum/color if so desired), timer features (including a 24/7 setting), and ability to adjust the intensity of the light, if so desired. The spectrum and intensity options are pretty straightforward; you can adjust these to your liking, however I feel it is the timers that require a little more detailed explanation. You have three chief options, simple on/off, 24/7, and personalized custom: The 24/7 feature basically sets the light loose to do its thing automatically. I don't recall the exact times, but roughly around 6-7AM, the light will turn on with a gentle intensity in the orange light spectrum to simulate dawn, then work its way through the day to full spectrum, then culminate in a blue/indigo spectrum in the evening around 8-9PM, until it shuts off for the night around 10-11PM. The one and only CON that I have is the intensity of light CANNOT be adjusted in this setting. When it reaches full daytime, the full spectrum is BRIGHT. If you have low-light plants, it may be too much. The personalized custom timer allows for 3 durations of light, 6H, 10H, and 12H. The plus side to these timers is that it DOES allow for adjustment for light intensity. The drawback is you lose the beauty of the changing light spectrums as this mode only goes between off a gentle ramp up to full spectrum and vice versa. It's kind of a bummer, but not a deal-breaker for me. Setting up the timers is a mild annoyance as the controls work by way of counting your button presses to select the options. For example, to cycle through the various light intensities, color spectrums, or time settings, you have to repeatedly press the buttons to cycle through everything. Not a big deal since you realistically only have to do it once to set up the timers. For those interested, I am currently growing Bacopa Caroliniana, Apongeton Ulvaceus, Amazon Sword, Windelov Java Fern, Cryptocoryn Lutea, Cryptocoryn Wendtii Green, Java Moss, and Susswassertang in this tank and everything is growing very well with this light. All in all, a great little light for those not wanting to pay 2-2.5x the price for a similar "big name" light source. ... show more

Lots of lighting options! This aquarium light is very customizable and programmable! You can set it to turn on and off at specified times. You can also set it to come on at a low percentage with an amber light and slowly get brighter to mimic the sunrise! Really cool light and at a great price! Definitely recommend! ... show more

I initially purchased the 48 inch model for my 100g custom tank. The tank is feet long so the light is a bit under sized for it but I wasbok with that. The first light that showed up worked for a test fit, then failed to turn back on afterwards. I had it replaced and it is still working now, that was about 8 months ago. Recently I started another tank project and bought another 48 inch model for a 55g (48 inch long) tank I am using. Fits great as expecting. Nice and bright and all colors are solid. Set it aside after the test like before. Couple days ago I went to install it on the tank to see how everything would look in place, and once again it has failed. Amazon no longer offers direct replacement so I was merely offered a refund then told to repurchase separately. Well I purchased this during the black Friday sales and now it is $13.60 more expensive. That is not the manufacturer's issue but Amazon is refusing to honor the original purchase price even though it was defective. So if you are waiting for a sale price, it's hit or miss if that's going to be worth it. My replacement/4th unit will arrive today, if it fails as well I will update this review. ... show more

Quality construction. Easy to set up (I have it on the auto 24-hour setting). The light is bright and I really like the dawn / day / night gradual light changes. No more startling the fish with the sudden on/off. I bought two smaller ones for 10 gallon tanks. The brackets on one aren't exactly square so it doesn't fit the tank quite as well as the other one. Not a big enough issue to return it. I've only had them a few weeks but so far so good. Time will tell. I ordered a third one for a larger tank. ... show more

December 2023: My Hygger Light failed, but Hygger jumped right in and made it right! My light failed a couple of months after putting it into service. I contacted Hygger through Amazon and I very quickly got a response directly from Hygger. Within about a 2 week period I have a new fixture in hand and without having to repack the bad fixture and send it back. Hygger’s only requested that I send a short video failed fixture. Seemed just a little strange when the fixture would not light, but I did as asked and with the light plugged in I went through the process of multiple presses on each button to show function failure. I sent this in and very quickly sent a new fixture. I had previously owned another brand that only made it through about a year, but never came close to the superior illumination from the Hygger fixture. I only used the 24/7 function will allowed me to schedule a Sunrise and Sunset process to create a more real life environment for my critters. For me, this Hygger light fixture is the best illumination and the best Customer Service. Previous Post: Yep, this has to be the best light I have ever owned for an aquarium. Pro: Illumination is outstanding and does a great job lighting the tank front to rear and sided to side on my 53 Gal. Corner Tank. Pro: Seems to be excellent for growing plants, but I do add a cap full of fertilizer every other month. Pro: Fish and plant colors are also great. Con: Working with the timer to set up light cycles as if it were a real solar day is a little challenging. Con: Once the solar cycle has been set to where I want it, there is no battery backup for power outages and I have to start over with getting up early in the morning to reset. Not Me: Having options of choosing different color spectrums like just red or blue or green is not a part of my world and has no value. If I had a restaurant or bar, then these might be decorative. Now I would still have to reset again to make sure the plants and fish have the proper lighting to stay healthy until the next night. ... show more
