We have had small above ground pools for over 20 years but this is the first sand filter we have owned and used. Why did I not get one before?! This thing is fabulous! Our pool is literally SPARKLING clean - I have have never seen the water looking so good. We have a 18' pool and it handles that size without problem. The pump is fairly quiet - you can hear it running but not annoyingly. Ran great as soon as I set it up. It came with extra tubing and most everything you need. You will need o ring lube and possibly different tubing depending on your setup. The biggest downfall is the directions are not great when it gets to telling you which tubes to hook where. The directions are fine for putting the sand filter together but I found I had to do some searching of other peoples photos to see how to connect hoses thus I am including some photos of hose setup to help you out in case you get on the struggle bus like me (I have a bus pass). The plugs are plastic (as are 99.999% of everything made nowadays...ugh) so you have to use some care when tightening but nothing that would keep me from buying - just keep it under Hulk level and you should be fine. Directions were alittle lacking on when to backwash the filter but with alittle Googling I was able to make sense of the directions (pressure increase above starting pressure - time to backwash). Amazing pump for our 14x48 pool. Then again anything is better than the stock pump that comes with above ground pools. Itā€™s runs great, itā€™s easy to use and itā€™s super quiet. My only issue with this pump was how the instructions are complete garbage. One of the biggest issues I ran into was when you install the drain on the sand tank. Says to hand tighten if Iā€™m not mistaken. Did just that and got sand and in it and everything hooked up then went to fire it up and water was leaking out of it. Ended ip having to dump out the sand and spend another 20 bucks and another 50 lb bag and in the process use a wrench to tighten up the spout as much as I couldā€¦. No issues with it now. The other thing is the instructions donā€™t mention what to do with the smaller o-rings that go with the plastic screws that get hooked to the pump and tank. Wish they would go and revise the instructions because for something that is almost 200 dollars and your pool depends on it the instructions should be thorough. ... show more

We have a square best way 10 foot by 6 foot 3 foot deep pool. We had some pretty crappy weather here in Pennsylvania in the month of June. The pool was covered a lot with a tarp because we had a lot of 70s temperatures with a lot of rain. When we went to take the cover off of the pool, the one day, the water smelled, was aqua colored, and mosquito larva had infested it swimming all around. It was gross and the pool was unswimmable. We went that day and got pool chemicals and doused the water and bugs. Chlorine, shock, and algicide. We had an upgraded larger paper filter, filter on our pool. (Also bought from Amazon) After days of having it running and putting the chemicals in the pool it still was not clean or clear. It turned more bluish, but you could not see through it all and it still smelled like a pond. We then went and got clarifier. We ended up putting clarifier in the pool two different times because the pool still was not clear and looked milky and foggy. We thought we were going to end up having to drain the pool after a few weeks of not being able to get it back to normal. We kept adding chlorine every couple of days to try to correct the smelly aqua tinted water. Although all the bugs eventually did die and disappear. My daughter was upset because I wouldn't let her swim in it. Lol We needed a solution. I started searching online for a solution and read that we may need a stronger, pool filter or a sand filter, and that the water may not be getting enough filtration or circulation. I came onto Amazon and bought this sand filter. It took my husband a couple of hours to get it hooked up properly and put together. We let it run all night and checked the pool the very next morning and it was already 1000 times better. The next day after that the pool was blue and clear again!! Finally swimable!! had went through so many headaches within about three weeks to try to get our pool back to normal and apparently all we had to do was buy a small sand filter. It has been working perfect, and has a great amount of power for our pool. If something ends up happening with it, I will update my review but so far it has been great for us!! The sand pump arrived and almost immediately I was surprised to see water in the reservoir for the pump. Which made me believe the pump had likely already been used. Despite this I hoped maybe it was just from factory testing until I noticed traces of sand inside of the sand pump switch. It also appeared to be missing a hose or other components necessary for it to even operate. I have returned the pump and am awaiting a refund. Aside fron the pump clearly being used it was also very poor quality plastic components which leaves me to be believe it's likely a product that will not last long either. Is save ypur money and by a better quality sand pump. I opted to repair my old intex sand pump drum after my experience with this purchase. ... show more

This pump, though spendy, is BY FAR the best upgrade weā€™ve made to our pool. It might be a bit of overkill, but we only have to run it a couple hours per day, and weā€™re using less than HALF the chemicals we used last summer!!

You will need a ā€œpreā€ filter. Mine got blocked after hours and stopped working. Took me a bit to figure out that the intake was blocked. In the mean time I had replaced the sand but still didnā€™t work. I questioned about it on amazon and they started the process of replacement. It is a perfect sand pump. I wish I could cancel the replacement pump they are shipping now. Again if it doesnā€™t work?!? Check the pump intake and clean it. ... show more
