This book is absolutely brutal, terrifying, and impossible to put down. The raw terror surrounding human trafficking is horrifying. H.D. Carlton doesn’t just tell you what is happening—her writing has a way of completely pulling you into the story until it feels like you’re right there experiencing the fear, helplessness, anger, and desperation alongside the characters. There were moments that were genuinely difficult to read, but I also couldn’t stop reading. What impressed me most was the author’s ability to capture the darkness of captivity and make it feel so disturbingly real. The atmosphere, emotions, and psychological terror are written with such intensity that this book stays with you even after you put it down. I loved Haunting Adeline, but Hunting Adeline takes the Cat and Mouse Duet into an entirely different level of darkness.

Well done psychological thriller dark romance

Book Review: Hunting Adeline by HD Carlton ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ ⚠️ Spoilers Ahead. Please check trigger warnings before reading this duet. ⚠️ Hunting Adeline absolutely wrecked me. Book 1 leaves off on a cliffhanger and I had to immediately pick up Book 2. It was raw, brutal, heartbreaking. I couldn’t look away. The dual POV made this story incredibly immersive. It gave me Taken vibes, but with so much more emotional depth because you’re experiencing both Addie’s captivity and everything happening behind the scenes to find her. Every chapter had me hoping she’d make it home. I honestly had to look up the chapter where she was found or escaped to calm my nerves. Was this an easy read? No. But I also felt like I owed it to Addie to stay with her through every page. In the same way Zade refused to turn away from the evidence they uncovered, I didn’t want to turn away from her story. Those scenes aren’t there for shock value. They force you to witness the horrific reality of trafficking and SA instead of pretending it doesn’t exist. As I said in my other review, I respect H.D. Carlton so much for writing stories that don’t shy away from conversations many people would rather avoid. They are uncomfortable, and they’re meant to be. I deeply appreciated watching Addie’s healing journey. How she slowly reclaim herself after everything she’d endured. It was just as powerful as the suspense. I admired her resilience. I love both books in the Cat and Mouse Duet equally and for completely different reasons. Haunting Adeline gave me the obsession and the unforgettable chemistry. Hunting Adeline gave me the heartbreak and the healing. This duet will stay with me for a very long time. I’m ready to read more by H.D. Carlton and fully support the books and movies right to exist. What a masterpiece

I'm just in awe. Utterly mind-blown. The first book I completely obsessively loved and devoured, but this one was the cherry on top. I read the first half of the book compulsively and fast, but once I could finally breathe again (you'll know what I mean if you've read it or once you read it) I tried to stretch the second half as much as I could, not wanting it to end. Delayed gratification, people. But don't let what I say kid you; this book is brutal, in a masochitically and beautiful sense of the word. Your heart will beat fast, it will break, you'll hold your breath, you won't be able to sleep (not well, at least lol) until you pass HALF OF THE BOOK. SPOILERS It doesn’t matter that Zade and Adeline are separated half of the book; this doesn’t make it less... gripping, captivating and addictive. And! Regarding what I said above, I didn't even devour the book because I wanted Zade and Adeline to reunite (of course I wanted them to), but because I just wanted to keep on seeing how they managed to survive the whole... thing. The awful, tragic THING: Adeline being kidnapped and trafficked because of her connection to Zade (Zade and I believe this; Adeline doesn't blame him). What a tragically awesome plot twist! (End of book 1). The man who lives to destroy these Societies, has to live at least 2 months apart from Madeline, knowing that she's being abused and exploited (and this she is, graphically and explicitly. Brace yourselves). I LOVED Adelene's attitude while living this awful reality, focused on surviving and trying to play the cards that she was delt as well as she could, until she finally escapes and is found by Zade and the whole experience comes crushing down on her. Of course, since she's trying to survive, as I said, you then see how desensitized she became in order to cope better with the situation... The way the author deals with her trauma, her healing, being okay, then the anger, the mixed feelings, itt was all just so... I don't know. Perfect. This author has a way with words and how she tackles these topics, and I just really appreciated that she found a way to weave them into a beautiful and sexy dark romance novel. On the other hand, I LOVED how Zade was almost crazy, wild, desperate, losing it (of course he tried to keep his cool as much as he could) while he was looking for Adeline. I loved how "real" the "hunting" process was; I couldn't believe it took him 2 months to find her! But then, of course as much as he's a beast of a man, he doesn't have superpowers so. That was really sobering... I also loved how, when he finally finds her, he tries to be the pilar now that Adeline's trauma starts coming to the surface, even though he's dealing with his own shit internally. He deals, so, so well with her constant ups and downs, angry lashouts. I just LOVED that this man, even though he's patient and keeps his distance cause Adelene has issues with him touching her now, doesn't shy away from showing her his desire, either verbally, by the way he looks at her, and gradually touching her more and more. You'll see that after all the stalking and the tragedy, he ends up giving her POWER; physical, mental, and emotional. I don't know. I still think he's a psycho, but now he's my favorite male fictional character. Seriously. I'm not going to share more spoilers than I've already had. You'll just have to read the novels because I could write an essay saying all the things that make him the perfect man lol psycho, dominant, confident, intense, possessive and all. LOL thank God Sibby's back!!! I couldn't help laughing whenever she made an appearance! Just brilliant. EVERY SINGLE THING

Glad to be Done

So, I finished it. I read the first book months ago and finally decided I was ready to read the second. This book had a strong start: there were new characters to get to know, plenty of action, and the anticipation of Addie getting to safety somehow. Then, it just tapered off for me from there. The last 300+ pages absolutely drug on, but like I said, I finished it. Addie’s healing journey was plenty detailed, but often skewed in some way or another. Addie is no longer the strong, curious girl, but instead, she is malicious and vindictive. The author still attempts to portray this as strength, a little bit of “do unto others” perhaps. Zade was interesting. The readers are told he’s powerful, but not how he obtained that power nor how he keeps it. He just is, so we are forced to believe it. The side characters intrigued me more than the main leads, but I’m not sure that I will read any of their stories after being disappointed in this one.

Hunting Adeline by HD Carlton is amazing

Hunting Adeline HD Carlton Part One This was a very difficult part to get through. What Adeline goes through is truly horrific. I sobbed deeply for her and those in her situation, both within the book and knowing this occurs in real life. HD Carlton did not give us a quick, happy bypass to the trauma. Zade didn’t save her before the damage was done. HD Carlton held our hands and said walk through the fire with Adeline and you will burn too. At this stage in the series we know the players. We love them as they were in the first novel. This one asks you to love Adeline as someone new, someone no longer whole, but someone shattered and trying to figure out how to piece together all the left over parts. Part one gutted me, shattered me, torn into my soul and left me bereft. Regardless of the current controversy for Haunting, as someone with my own trauma, these books for some of us are healing and it takes enormous talent to write about these things without making them salacious. Sometimes the healing is in the shattering and sometimes it’s in the pieces we can pick back up. Part Two As devastating as part one was, part two is beautiful justice or revenge, call it whatever you like but comeuppance is a delicious taste to survivors of any kind of abuse. We watch Adeline slowly heal, physically and mentally. We watch her gain strength and control over her life. It’s absolutely incredible to watch her pick up the pieces she thought stolen from her and decide how to put them back in. Zade learns patience while she learns how to live within her own body again. I also love the reappearance of a certain favorite character of mine. Part two was everything I had hoped it would be.

Spoilers Below! Hunting Adeline was a gripping, emotional and harrowing story that will absolutely stay with you forever. I absolutely loved this book as it not only destroyed me but also put me back together. There were moments I cried, felt disgusted, screamed, laughed, smiled and blushed. Definitely not an easy read but one that I absolutely could not put down. This is the final installment to the Cat and Mouse duet, so definitely read the first book before starting this one. This book also may not be for everybody as the story has some very very dark, graphic, explicit and triggering content. So please absolutely check the trigger warnings before reading. The overall plot and storyline were beautifully written and captivating even with the dark content throughout the story. I will say that Part 1 of this book was extremely difficult to read but the author was able to write such a raw and realistic story in a way that still gave me hope. Adeline’s journey was dark, heartbreaking, honest, empowering and just beautiful. While, painful to read at times her storyline and character development was just fantastic. Her healing and recovery was a bit unconventional at times but exactly what she needed for herself and for her relationship with Zade. Zade, I just have no words for how incredible this man was. His love, devotion, commitment, and obsession with Adeline was just so god damn beautiful. He definitely was exactly what she needed and their relationship was one of the best I have ever read. Zade honestly is just one of my top favorite book boyfriends ever. The spice in this book was also just fantastic. It’s dark, kinky and intense, and while it doesn’t occur until about 65% into the book it’s definitely worth it after all Adeline and Zade went through. While, there were a lot of side characters throughout this book that I liked, Sibby was by far my favorite. I absolutely loved how funny, crazy, charming and dramatic she was. She also provided that comedic relief that was needed in the story. Another side character that I liked but still have a few mixed feelings about was Rio. I would definitely love a book about him as he was not your typical morally gray character. I will say that the revenge aspect of this story was fantastic but a bit too rushed. I just would have liked for the torture and pain to have been more, especially after what they all did to Adeline. The conclusion and epilogue was absolutely perfect and definitely worth all that heartache. Zade and Adeline’s unconventional love story is one for the ages. Overall, just a heartbreakingly beautiful read and ending to the Cat and Mouse duet. It’s dark, brutal, and emotionally exhausting

Hunting Adeline was a hard read at times, especially the first part. It’s dark, brutal, and emotionally exhausting, so definitely check your trigger warnings before diving in. That said, pushing through it was absolutely worth it. One thing H.D. Carlton did really well was handling Adeline’s trauma. She didn’t magically bounce back after everything she’d been through. The healing felt messy, realistic, and heartbreaking, and I appreciated that the story gave her space to process instead of pretending love alone fixes everything. And can we talk about Sibby? She completely stole every scene she was in. Unhinged, hilarious, and oddly lovable, she was the perfect addition to the story and brought some much-needed moments of chaos to balance all the heavy emotions. Overall, this was a satisfying conclusion to the duet. It’s dark, intense, and definitely not for everyone, but if you can make it through the difficult first half, the payoff is worth it.
