  • Very good in my first try out. Corrosions developed in saltwater fishing.
Size: FB1000 Color: Silver
The media could not be loaded. The reel is not super light weight. I put 6lb mono line on my okuma spinning rod. The fist day I caught a two pound largemouth bass. The reel apparently reeled in smoothly. I did spray some silicone grease after opening the spool piece. My suggestion is for every buyer to do the same. It greatly reduced the noise while reeling. I think the reel is a good quality reel comparing to shimnao ix which is in shortage now. updates after two weeks in Aug, 2020: I caught a 5 pounds cat fish and a 4 pounds largemouth in my neighborhood lake. The reel worked flawlessly with the 6lb mono line. I would recommend this reel. Updates in Oct. 2020: The reel bolts have signs of rust after two months of use. I did not submerge the reel in salt water and I used tap water flushing after each surf fishing trip. I think some of the reviewers are correct about the poor corrosion resistance. Having said that, I am ordering another one (fb5000) as spare. Because of the recent price rise on fishing gears, I can't find other cheap reels ( $8-$12) that function so well. Update in December. After four months, this reel stuck and could not function in my recent fishing trip. I dissembled the reel, there are a few componets showing signs of corrosion. I have used it intensively, probably once a week. It is clear that this reel is not designed for salt water fishing. For those who plan to use it in fresh water, it shall work just fine. After I opened it up and removed rust in the bearing, this reel is functioning again. But, I don't think this reel would last long in saltwater environment. Buyer shall be aware. 2021 update Caught two large cat fishes and one large mouth and four tilapia in the recently trip. I am using this reel for fresh water fishing now. It works well the drag is still very smooth. ... show more

  • Bought two for ice rods
Size: FB1000 Color: Silver
Normal 1000 reel size. Build quality seems decent. Plan on using for ice fishing. These reels may not compare to a $30 dollar reel, but for the $11 purchase price they are a great value for ice fishing . If i were to want a reel for smooth reeling open water fishing i would spend more. Update.... I have now used the reels several times for ice fishing and after lubricating they are smooth and a great value .highly recommend. ... show more

  • Attractive and smooth out of the box--until used, then junk.
Size: FB4000 Color: Silver
I rarely write reviews. This one requires it. There are many positive reviews for this reel. I wonder how many are real. Without boring everybody, after ONE--repeat, ONE--saltwater outing in a kayak, without the reel having been dunked... The GOOD: - very smooth out of the box, fund to play with; - attractive; - bail wire is unexpectedly thick and durable for a reel this size. The NEUTRAL: - size FB4000 is much smaller than expected. It is more like a size 3xxx for most other brands. - paint flaking off bling parts of reel do not interfere with functioning. The BAD: (remember, ONE saltwater kayaking outing) - exterior screws all rusting within 1 week after trip (yes, the reel was rinsed with fresh water after kayaking); - handle VERY difficult to rotate, and gritty; - bail mechanism not easy to close, and gritty. So here's the reason: garbage materials and poor design. I know spinning reels (I restore them as a hobby). I disassembled this reel to see what was the problem: - the "12 ball bearing" design is very smooth out of the box. However, the bearing is NOT SHIELDED. Once removed (already difficult to do after ONE saltwater trip, it contained rust among the ball bearings and turned very roughtly; - the interior of the reel was full of water. The way this thing is designed, water entering the reel cannot drain out. In other words, the guts of your reel are being constantly bathed in water if any should get in; - the original "grease" on the gears and moving parts feels more like light petroleum jelly--and there is VERY little of it. Many of the mating gears have no lube at all, and the spool shaft was stained with broken down lubricant and rust from who knows where. I filled the interior of the reel with heavy duty grease, literally about 60% full, and heavily doused all moving parts and any exposed metal. I completely filled every space in the bearing with grease. After disassembly, it took some effort to spin the spool, but it eventually "broke free", which I suspect was the ball bearings breaking out of their rust (again, after a single saltwater outing). I expect that my "restoration" of this reel--repeat, after ONE saltwater trip--will give me another 3-5 trips before this reel is trashed completely. Caveat emptor. ... show more

  • a little heavy
Size: FB6000 Color: Silver
This is a review for the 6000 version. The reel is on the heavy side even it stated it light weight. I read some other review and saw that people stated it didn't have enough grease or oil. So I taken apart everything and inspect it. The nut that was holding it together was upside down. Farther inspection I found only the top copper color metal was greased. None of the gear has any grease on it. The hole on the side allow dirt and water to enter and jam up the reel. This lead to the rust issue that a lot of people complaining about. Best if you don't take it salt water fishing. Update May 4: After three use the anti reverse pin decided to fly off the two reel I brought. This I couldnt find replacement for it. The string guides wire is made out of aluminum. It isn't harden metal like other reel and it bend after a few drop. So disappointed with this reel. Even cheap Walmart reel last longer then this. The handle let you fold in with a push of the button. This feature is extremely annoying. I caught a 15lb fish. While reeling it back it. It fold by itself.. twice I have to fold it back. Afterwards I look at it and find the button has a plastic pin to hold it. By reeling too hard you bend the plastic pin. Never buy this reel! ... show more
