I’m fishing this reel in saltwater, Galveston Bay Texas. I was concerned about the drag but after this weekend I have no worries. I landed one of these 40” in bull reds with the same effort as my wife on the other. She was using a solid name brand reel 4000 series. The only thing I don’t like is that the handle is a bit short, it works fine, just not the most comfortable. Took it out for so Gulf coast fishing. Spool some 20lb braid on and pair it with a nice 9.5ft rod, and you'll be casting a 1.5oz lure like you using a 15ft rod!! Fast reeling and sturdy, the only down side is for a 5000 is half the size of others, but it'll definitely handle its own in a fight! Definitely will be adding another! ... show more

Just a quick review, the reel spins smoothly however it is tiny, for being 7000. What they call this 7000 is obviously an overestimate. So, please check the capacity, it not much if you want to use a heavy line. I'm not even sure if the handle will be up to the task. But either way, the spool diameter is small and is not as efficient as a "real" 7000. Other than that, it is a small and smooth reel. ... show more

Seems like a great reel, smooth and sharp looking but much smaller than expected, I got the 7000 and it's half the size of my 6000 series reel. Don't see how I'm putting 50lb braid on this. Maybe they sent the wrong reel in the right box .

This is a really nice real for the price, however it is definitely not for saltwater use. I used it in salt water twice, rinsed thoroughly after and all of the screws are already rusted. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!.
