  • Not an HP fan, but....
I am not an HP fan for computers. Printers, yes. Computers, not so much. My history with HP computers has been one wrought with failures, crashes, loss of data, software conflicts, you name it. It all added up to a very unsatisfying experience. However.....After buying this one on a whim (because of the price) after a motherboard burnout on another computer, I am totally surprised at its performance and ease of use. PRO: The features it has are more than adequate for the moderate demand I wanted it for. Primarily office type demands, Photo processing, music etc. The on board video outputs, vga & hdmi, allowed me to do a dual monitor set up with virtually no lag between and link to my home theatre with excellent HD. The USB-3 inputs are more than adequate for most needs. Mic / headphone inputs are standard and the audio out handles surround sound well. After extending the use to more demanding projects...video and audio production, it performed well. There was some slowdown due to the high end demand, but it did hold its own. I didn't expect it to perform as well as my work horse, but I just wanted to see if it could. And it ran cool and quiet under load. I did like the fact that it had no bloatware included. There was the standard antivirus which I uninstalled and replaced with one that i preferred. Office was negligible as I had my own I use. Con: None as yet. I will update this as time and usage increases. Highly recommended by someone who previously was not a fan. ... show more

  • Great Value
So, I've had this thing for three weeks now and, so far, I'm pleased. One thing that needs to be called out, up front has to do with memory. This computer ships with 4GB Ram. That's not really enough to have a pleasant experience even if you just use it for work projects, Internet surfing, and emails. There are two slots for memory modules and, thank God, HP was kind enough to install the 4GB memory as one module, leaving the other slot open. You can buy a second 4GB module for less than $40.00, snap it in the open slot, and have a much better machine for about $70 less than you'd pay to buy the same machine with 8GB already installed. Also, if you buy from Amazon, you will save about another $40 in sales tax that would otherwise fund "Art in Public Places" or on whatever other nonsense your municipal taxing authority throws money away. If I had it to do over, I would do just about anything to transfer my files and settings (from my old Windows 7 computer) than to use the Windows Easy Transfer over my home network. What a pain. Update: The pain I was experiencing was quite real. Transferring from one computer to the other became a nightmare. Finally, a technician had to be sent to my house to replace the mother board before the problems were solved. The upside is that the problems were solved and solved under warranty. All I lost were a few hurt feelings and a little lost time. ... show more

  • Great Buy
Arrive in superb packing and working extremely well. Lots of new designs and features on the Windows 7, I was scare to try Windows 8. I play lots of games and the experience with that has been great, no more crashes like my old computer. Only negative drawback was no free microsoft office works. Love the quickness of looking at web sites, no sitting and falling asleep at the keyboard. Nice design and looks very attractive on my desk. Features are below: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit(1) * 4th generation Intel® Core(tm) i3-4130 processor(2b) * 4GB PC3-12800 DDR3-1600 SDRAM memory(3) 1x4GB (expandable to 16GB) * 1TB 7200RPM Serial ATA hard drive(4b) * Intel® HD Graphics 4400(16) * USB keyboard with volume control and optical mouse * SuperMulti DVD Burner(6c) * 4 USB 3.0 * Wireless LAN 802.11b/g/n featuring Single-band (2.4Ghz) 1x1(19) * 1 year limited hardware warranty and 1 year technical support ... show more

  • So far, so good.
I buy a new PC about every five years. I wasn't going to opt for a new one until June when it would be my beloved, reliable E-Machine's 5th birthday (wonderful, cheap, Windows 7). Then we started reading about the problems with Windows 8, and how it wasn't long before Win 7 would no longer be available. I have some aging but reliable peripherals and software that Win8 won't run. The HP/Win7 seemed to get the best Amazon reviews, albeit with some warnings about pop-up ads. Well, its just been a day, but so far, the pop-ups have not been a problem...I took the advice of other reviewers and un-installed MacAfee&MS office immediately. If they become a problem, I'll update review.* The only accomodation I had to make was an inexpensive PS/2 - USB converter for my old (circa 1996) Microsoft split ergonomic keyboard. Be advised that there are 2 USB3s in the front,2 USB3's in the back, along with 4 USB2s in the back...but there are no PS/2 inputs, so 2 of those have to be used for mouse and keyboard. Also the keyboard they ship has a very short cord...could not use it even if I wanted to. That is why this review is 4 stars and not 5. Now we just have to hope that Microsoft supports Win 7 for another five years. *Its been a few days. The only pop up issues came after a 'free' app download of PDFlite. I had installed it years ago with no problems, but now the program comes bundled with some bad stuff. I went to 'uninstall programs', and sure enough, 5 'crapware' apps had been downloaded along with it. It was easy enough to identify them by date and get rid of them. There was one malware program on IE (a homepage hi-jacker) that I had to get rid of using ADWcleaner and Malwarebytes. It must have worked. This morning; no pop-ups and no listing of the bad homepage. But this was not the fault of HP. ... show more
