  • Laptop Boasts Exceptional Storage And RAM - Great For Gamers Or For Everyday Use Of Basic Functions
Capacity: 64GB RAM | 2TB SSD
The media could not be loaded. We bought this computer for our son's birthday. He's planning on majoring in coding / computer science when he enters college this fall ... plus, he's an avid online gamer so this laptop was recommended to us by his high school coding teacher. Our son has used this laptop just about everyday over the past week. Here are some pros and cons based on his usage: On the plus side, it is very sturdy. The overall feel of the exterior shell has a plastic feel to it, so stability was a concern at first. However, not only is the exterior comfortable when laying across your lap but it is very durable. Probably one of the biggest draws to this computer is that it plays games really well. Gameplay is simply amazingly. The graphics and character animation inside the games run smoothly, whether it's games released this year or classic games. The storage on this laptop is unreal. We got the version that has 2TB of internal storage. He transferred most of the games from his old laptop onto this one and it still has 1.3TB of storage left. To go along with that, we got the laptop with 64GB of RAM so, obviously, everything runs fast. Now, on the opposite end of things, here are a few things to consider before purchasing this laptop. First, the fans are very loud with more intense games. With smaller games they’re not as bad and get quieter after long play sessions, but they can still be annoying. The placement of the fans being on the bottom also makes the computer a bit uncomfortable to carry around. This is more of a personal preference thing but having a full size keyboard takes some time getting used to. While the keyboard is really nice, complete with backlighting, being full sized can be take some adjustment if you're used to more compact keyboards. When it comes to battery life, this is one aspect that can be a little annoying. Realistically, after a full charge, you really only have a few hours before the battery needs to be plugged back in for recharging. If you find yourself in a position where an outlet isn't nearby, you might want to consider carrying along a supplemental powering source. If you’re using it to play games, I’d say just always have it plugged in as bigger games take much more power to play. Since he's been primarily using it to play games, this may cause the battery to drain much quicker so that's something to keep in mind. Basic daily functions may not be as demanding on the battery. Overall, considering that our son plays a lot of PC-based games, this laptop is pretty much tailor-made for him. Plus, when you take into account the substantial amount of RAM this laptop has and the relitively large 2TB of internal storage, the HP Victus has been a worthwhile investment. It has the capacity to run the games our son likes to play in his free time but also the capability to run coding programs when he enters college in the fall. He's pleased and we're pleased so it earns high marks from us and our recommendation. ... show more

Capacity: 16GB RAM | 512GB SSD
I actually would punch someone in the face for this laptop. It works better than any laptop I've ever had. I use Photoshop frequently, and the only time it has ever run slow was when I accidentally opened like 15 different pictures on different tabs. Perfect size, and somehow SUPER light. It's a Windows, so it takes a bit to set everything up, but it works really well and doesn't try to burn down the house or explode when I open a new Google doc. ... show more

  • Great computer for early college life
Capacity: 16GB RAM | 512GB SSD
Really good computer especially if you’re just about or just getting into college. Immediately has windows 11 on it so it is extremely easy to use for me. Pretty noisy if you’re playing video games but if you have noise cancelling headphones on it’s not much of a problem. I was able to download 5 pretty large games and it only took about half the storage space. Design is nice for a computer of that price. Overall an excellent computer. ... show more

  • It's okay.
Capacity: 16GB RAM | 1TB SSD
There was a guitar pick lodged inside this laptop that I purchased new, that was installed I assume to try to mitigate the right click issue. After two months of use, it sounded like a fan had started to go bad, I flipped it over to check, and could see a yellow guitar pick. (I do a lot of IT work, so I'm familiar with their use in prying open laptops for repair) Judging from the impression on the guitar pick, it seems it was put in place between two pieces of plastic on the interior of the laptop the mitigate the right click problem, as now that issue detailed below is significantly worse. For a 600 dollar laptop this thing is pretty well rounded. This laptop is replacing an old Asus that had an Intel Core i7-6700MQ and a GTX 965M. Comparatively this thing seems to be a little slower when launching simple things like browsers and Steam. I'm only planning on using this laptop for light gaming while travelling so the specs are more than adequate for that, its just worth noting I think. The big thing that lured me in was 144hz refresh rate. Thats phenomenal for a laptop at this price point. I like the keyboard quite a bit as well. I do have three major complaints, that will probably drive me to replace this by the end of the year. One, the sides of the laptop chassis are SHARP. Like, REALLY sharp. Two, if you apply even the slightest bit of pressure, say resting your palm, on the left, to the side of the track pad, it will somehow flex enough to cause the RIGHT CLICK to activate. You can literally hear it being pressed. That is OUTRIGHT unacceptable in a laptop being manufactured by a large system integrator like HP. Three, the fans. This thing gets loud even when just running a single tab on a web browser. I've messed with power settings but once the fans spool up it is a constant high pitched whine from them. All in all, I think this is a pretty solid laptop if you're just looking for something with a decent screen and discrete graphics. That being said DO NOT get variants of this with more than 16gbs of ram. The hardware is too weak for you to ever utilize more than 16. ... show more
