🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

Reviewers are generally satisfied with this laptop, praising its quick boot times, stunning high-resolution display, and generous keyboard. While the laptop serves its purpose well, offering solid performance and impressive speed, some users report issues with a noisy fan and occasional heating issues. Overall, it is considered a great laptop for heavy duty tasks such as running large coding situations or handling virtual machines.

Pros

  • 🚀 High speed performance and quick boot times due to the solid-state drive and ample RAM.
  • 🖥️ Beautiful, bright 15" display with a full HD 1920x1080 resolution.
  • 🎹 Generous keyboard with comfortable keys, even including a 10-key on the right side.
  • 💻 Solid gaming performance and can handle heavy tasks without performance issues.

Cons

  • ⌨️ Some users find the placement of the function keys inconvenient.
  • 🎚️ Only two USB ports available and only one HDMI port, limiting connections.
  • 🔌 Some reports of performance stutters when using the provided 45W power adapter.
  • ⏲️ The power button feels flimsy and is expected not to last for longer periods of time.
  • 🔊 The cooling fan is perceived as loud and annoying during startup.

Should I Buy It?

If performance, speed, and a high-quality display are your top priorities, this laptop makes for a strong choice. Be ready to cope with some minor design quirks and a noisy fan. For the price range, the laptop's potential shortcomings can appear pretty small compared to the benefits it offers, especially for gaming and coding tasks. If you are prepared to overlook the limited ports, slight issues with the power button, and noisy fans, it might be a good investment for you.

  • Overall a very good laptop
Style: Device Only
I've had this laptop for a couple months now. Here are my pros/cons, especially where the laptop differs from my expectations. Overall I'd definitely recommend this laptop to people, though. The screen is great. I love the full HD 1920x1080 resolution. At 15" that's a bit dense, and if your eyes are getting old you may find things too small. But it's a beautiful screen overall! Bright, high contrast, sharp. The solid state drive and lots of RAM make this very fast. I can't believe how fast it boots. The power button feels flimsy. This button is not going to last 10 years if I'm pressing it every day. Mostly I put it in "sleep" mode when not using it, and can wake it with any key on the keyboard. I end up using the actual power button maybe once every week or two, so hopefully that makes it last longer. Sometimes when I put it in "sleep" mode, it wakes up on its own. I don't understand why. It's probably some setting somewhere. I did discover that the external USB mouse I had attached was automatically configured to be a device that can wake the laptop from sleep, if the mouse moves. I disabled that, and that reduced how often the laptop wakes up on its own, but didn't entirely eliminate it. The keyboard is generous, for a laptop. It even has the 10-key on the right side. Some of the key placements are not what I'm used to, but laptop keyboards always make compromises. And the keys are very comfortable. The function keys (F1-F12 across the top) default to a *different* use (e.g., bright/dim the screen, volume up/down, etc.) and to use them for traditional F1-F12 functions (e.g., F2 = rename, F5 = refresh, etc.) you have to hold down a new "Fn" key down by Ctrl/Shift/Alt. I find this unfortunate because 9 times out of 10 I want the F1-F12 functions, not the others. The laptop has 4 rubberized feet on the bottom. However, when you flip up the screen, the hinge extends downward and actually lifts the laptop up off its back two rubberized feet. This is obviously by design, but wow that's a weird design. The laptop spends most of its time sitting on the hinge in the back, and the front two rubberized feet. Only two USB ports is a bit of a disappointment. I immediately bought two Sabrent 4-port USB hubs, one for each laptop port. Now I'm good to go at home, and when on travel I rarely need even the two built-in ports. Having USB-3 speeds is sure nice if you have external hard drives or other devices that can handle it! Only one HDMI port (and no other external monitor port) makes it hard to have this laptop drive two big monitors. I had to end up with one external monitor plus the built-in screen, which I don't like because they are such different sizes. There are external USB-C "docking" stations that solve this, but I have not tried one. ... show more

  • Good pc
Style: Device Only
Good PC for the price. It can run multiple programs at a time and is super fast. Now that everything is virtual I was hoping the webcam would be higher quality, but it is not very good. When running, the cooling fan can be loud.

  • Performs well and stays consistent with time
Style: Device Only
I've had this laptop for almost 2 years now so I feel I can actually give a sufficient review. Given the i7 processor and 16GB of RAM, it rarely has performance issues. For example, it helps when running my large coding situations and it had no issues handling a virtual machine. The SSD allows the laptop to boot up very quickly, and even 2 years later, that has not changed. The gaming performance surprised me. It has its limits but I found AAA games from about 2016 or earlier could be run on normal graphics. (For example, I could play Dark Souls III and modded Skyrim but not EA's Battlefront II) The battery life is of course situational. I would say ~5 hours for normal use, ~3 hours for streaming, <1 hour for any type of gaming. The only complaints I have are: 1. HP has a tendency to ship higher end laptops with a 45W power adapter, which results in performance stutters when plugged in. This is not an issue with the laptop, simply the adapter does not provide enough power to run the computer. I switched to a 65W adapter and this fixed the problem. 2. The i7 processor causes the fans to kick on regularly and they are louder than advertised. If that thing bothers, you should give this laptop a second thought. tldr: great laptop, but fans are loud and you'll need a higher wattage power chord. ... show more

  • Awesome laptop
Style: Device Only
This is the best laptop I have ever owned. And I have owned 4 others. This thing is freaky fast, great screen and boots almost instantly. My last laptop was also an Intel Core I7 that was slow and laggy from day one. I have owned and built my own computers since 1984. That Toshiba laptop i could never figure out it's problems for 4 years. It was almost identical in specs as this new HP. So i was pretty hesitant on getting another kind with the same type of processor. But I pulled the trigger on this HP Core 7 and boy am I glad I did. This gem is awesome. I looked at many on Amazon before deciding on this one as I have had a good HP laptop before. The only thing I miss is I thought this model had an illuminated keyboard, and it does not. It must have been another model I was looking at. While I love a backlit keyboard, I don't care because this laptop is fantastic. I couldn't be happier with this purchase. Buy it if you need a good laptop, you won't be sorry either. Thank you HP. ... show more

I needed an upgrade from my old chromebook, and saw this laptop at a decent price for what seemed like good specs. The issue is, the specs are misleading. The laptop stutters if it has more than 3 windows or apps running at once, the "10 hour" battery life is more like an hour and a half unless you turn performance all the way down. If you wanted to run any game made past 2015 on it then you're out of luck since the graphics card isn't supported by anything. It's just very... average. It has good wifi connectivity and video quality, it has good storage and decent camera quality. The speakers get very distorted even at half volume. It's bulky and not exactly portable. It doesn't excel at anything and falls way short in a few things. Overall it's really disappointing. Edit: computer stopped working with windows 11. Can't click anything with any mouse or the TouchPad. Tried all the fixes Google had to offer, factory reset the computer, nothing works. Don't waste your money on this garbage ... show more

  • So fast

The best computer I have owned so far. Its incredibly fast and light. The only downside to it is that it is a little loud but besides that everything else is great.
