  • Touch pad needs work
Very nice computer. Im used to much more premium devices! I've always had pretty good luck with hp. The one thing if anything i wish was a bit better is the track pad! Track pad is too loose and wiggles inside my unit. One side is a wee bit higher than the other. I'll learn to live with it which is new for me. Normally something like that would be a deal breaker! Im in the process of learning to not be so picky about my electronics. ... show more

  • LOTS of (non-technical) answers in this review including: This model comes with a backlit keyboard!
I'm giving this four stars only because it did not come with a touchscreen which should be a standard in any laptop these days, regardless of price. That is a personal gripe, not anything wrong with this computer. It is advertised without a touchscreen so you get what is in your package and nothing more. That being said, everything in the ad was correct, although some was omitted for no reason. While I only received this a few days ago, I am very happy with the purchase. Here are some answers to questions people may have (like myself that weren't all addressed on the ad): No, it does not have a touch screen. Yes, the keyboard is backlit (with three settings of brightness). Yes, it only has three ports (2 USB-C, 1 USB-A) plus a 3MM audio headphones jack (buy a USB-C hub with additional ports and carry it along for all your excess accessories). Yes, the speakers are loud enough to hear over a small desk fan and will bug your neighbors on a flight, although the sound quality is not special in any way. Yes, the OLED screen is spectacularly bright (mine was received at 30% which was bright enough to do all the setup - once I turned it up to 100% to watch a film, it was almost too bright -- 80% seems to be perfect, although it drains the battery quickly too) -- brightness significantly affects battery life (at 100% brightness, my battery was dropping 10% every 20 minutes). At an advertised "34 HOURS of battery life", that would only be if you're running your screen around 20% which would be viewable but not ideal). BE AWARE that gorgeous OLED screens can and WILL eventually lead to "burn-in" after a few months so make sure you adjust your settings accordingly (set it to timeout regularly, set a screensaver, close it when not in use, etc...). No, the trackpad is not glass but it is comfortable and responsive and does not feel cheap - although the left/right clicks are audible. Yes, you would probably want to get a wireless/wired mouse (attach it to a separate hub so it doesn't take up valuable port real estate). Yes, the keys on the keyboard are large and the lettering is VERY large (larger than my standard HP keyboard on both counts FYI - for anyone struggling with eyesight, these are a Godsend). Yes, it came with a 60W power adapter and charging cord (you need an adapter to power your laptop along with a standard USB-C charging cord - you cannot power the laptop with just the cord by itself plugged into the wall). I have no idea how AI works or any logistics on speed/graphic cards/processors/etc... There are plenty of other reviews addressing the good stuff. It is very fast at 16GB/1TBB configuration. The setup was easy - just make sure you have all your Microsoft and Google access info readily available. Everything functions exactly as you would expect and is great value for the money. I purchased it at 24% off and for that money, I think I got a fantastic deal. For what it's worth: If you need a touchscreen, buy one with a touchscreen or get a scrolling mouse. For a 14" laptop, this is my new toy and am thrilled to have it. I hope you enjoy yours as well. ... show more

  • Long battery life and quick to charge
This laptop amazed me with how long the battery held up. I charged this OmniBook completely before I opened the lid for the first time. When I opened the cover, I was happy to see the size font used on the keys. Very easy to read keys along with good size keys. This is a standard keyboard without the extended keypad on the right. It does not have a function option to enable a keypad overlay. Your number keys are along the top. I didn’t notice at first that this laptop has a lighted keyboard. The lighted keyboard has 2 brightness levels along with 3 choices on how long the keyboard will remain lit. By holding the keyboard light key, F5 the choices are 30 seconds, 3 minutes, and always. This laptop does not have an access panel for quick hardware upgrades. It is held closed with 4 screws and several retainer clips all around the edges. When I raised the cover, I noticed how smooth and easily the lid opened. It does not have a stiff hard to open hinge. When closed the cover is assisted to stay closed with magnets in the corners. After the cover was raised, I was about to press the power button as I noticed the screen was coming on. When you lift the cover this HP Laptop turns on automatically. I went through the standard Windows first time setup. Instead of making a new account I entered my Windows account info. When setup was done, I checked windows registration. Registration was all set so I went to windows update. While downloading windows updates it also downloaded and updated my Microsoft Office package attached to my account. This laptop is ok with basic games. Nothing with intense graphics. This is better business or school use. If you use multiple displays, it has a quick key F2 for multiple screen options. The laptop camera has face recognition with infra-red that works even in low light. The camera also has a slide bar to block the camera view when not wanted. The first day I was playing around with this laptop downloading updates and my steam library. I wanted to see how is did with the games. GTA V benchmark was between 20 to 25 FPS. Shadows of the Tomb Raider was around 10 to 15 FPS. It did run great with less intense games. I was surprised how it does not heat up like my other laptop. I never felt the need of a cooling pad. After about 15 hours I did have to plug in and recharge. I kept the screen brightness near max. I kept the screen awake almost the entire time. It took less than 3 hours to fully charge the battery. The OLED display is as expected absolutely gorgeous from any angle. This laptop is very energy efficient giving many hours of on-the-go time without having to plug in. When you do have to plug in it charges much faster than it drains power. ... show more

  • It’s Alright
The Good: Great OLED colors, and contrast ratio. Good build quality, doesn’t get hot, decent audio. The Bad: Only 60 Hz refresh rate, no HDR support (on an OLED panel?! Unbelievable). I know this isn’t a gaming PC, so performance wasn’t great, but Minecraft and World of Warcraft are playable with some tweaks (they have ARM64 native clients, would not recommend other games that don’t). The trackpad is a bit sensitive, double click unexpectedly at times due to it (the physical pad, not the touch sensitivity). For the price, I got it for, $600, it makes a good portable streaming movie device that can play like games native to ARM64. ... show more
