  • HP driver poorly compatible with Mac OS
Good overall print quality; reliable scans and faxes. Unfortunately, printing often gets disconnected for no obvious reason, forcing the user to delete the document in the printer's wait list and printing anew. Several updates of HP's drivers and Mac Os versions have not changed anything.

  • Finally a working printer but Amazon website is misleading
Poor documentation. First printer received was defective as one of the ink cartridges was faulty. Instead of sending a replacement cartridge, Amazon sent an entire new printer (that worked just fine, thank you!). This replacement printer seemed to be an excessively costly effort. AND I ordered the extra ink cartridges that were featured on the same page as the printer...HOWEVER, they were the incorrect cartridges for the printer!! What a waste of time and energy! ... show more

  • Flakey, buggy, absurdly expensive to operate
I have been using HP printers for more than 25 years. Bought them for every office I set up. I had my own HP 2300 (B&W) which was a workhorse that printed something close to 300-400 thousand pages. It finally started jamming but after 14 years of hard use. I have no complaints about the 2300. Bought this MFP476 for its multifunction capability. I am not a happy camper. This has been misery. Toner is ridiculously expensive and very short lived compared to the 2300. I have gone through two cases of paper (10,000 pages) and spent some $1200 on toner. That HP 2300 would have gone through 5-6 cases and still have life on one cartridge. Doesn't help that I have wasted a to of paper because the printer keeps flaking out halfway through print jobs. Printing from OSX(Mac) has been flakey in the extreme. Print jobs mysteriously pause for 10-50 seconds multiple times. An 82 page document took 30 minutes to print. 80+ page PPT documents sent to print as B&W mysterious print 5-10 pages in color in mid-deck. Multiple print jobs in queue will sometimes not dequeue. I have to delete the queue, restart the printer and reprint the documents. Seems the previous job doesn't signal its finished or something. Now I don't dare print two long documents in queue. I wait for one to finish before queuing the next. It has locked up overnight several times in just the last two weeks. I say overnight because the last job printed and maybe a day later when I come back I find that the printer has locked up: Twice it locked up so badly that the power button did not work and I had to yank the power cord. Today it locked up again, but woohoo! the power button was able to restart it. Yes, I have updated the firmware. Reinstalled drivers. HP technical support has been nothing short of exemplary in their dogged efforts to try everything under the sun. But the printer remains flakey and I am an unhappy camper. I suspect that my problems are a combination of the OSX printer driver and some bugs in the printer firmware which is causing the lockups. Again, kudos to HP technical support for their dogged efforts. Never seen anything like it. But I have to work and spending an hour a day on the phone with them trying experiment after experiment while I am on deadline has been killing me.. I really regret buying this printer. ... show more

  • Effortless color printing
Simply an amazing alternative to the headaches & hassles of ink jet printers... Great print quality... No more wet soggy prints so typical of cheap ink jet printers... Works best with HP papers... Easy to set up & Mac friendly too... Does well as a pdf scanner too...

  • Too many problems, try something else.
I really dislike this printer. Issues I've had: * when scanning to email, it makes a connection to the email server before it starts scanning. So if you have a really large set of papers to scan, it's very likely that the email connection drops, which makes you have to start all over with the scan. Absolutely, dumbfoundingly, stupid to do it this way. Scan the document first and then send in the background! * Because of the above, I don't even use scan to email anymore. I have to use my USB stick instead. * I've had a number of PDFs that when printed to this printer come out wrong or not at all. * The colors are off sometimes, with certain PDFs. Overall, never had a printer with so many issues. Stay away. ... show more

Almost two years since I purchased it and so far, no issues with printing, scanning and copying. Did not use the faxing function.
