  • Rugged and reliable, manuals are online, Debian 12 is fine
I installed Debian 12, first on the wired network (DHCP) then switching to Wifi connecting with nmtui without any problems. The only difficulty was that the manual suggested F10 to boot from USB, but later in the instructions noted that escape key also worked. I could not switch boot order using F10, but escape worked well enough. The other issue was with a low resolution monitor (using Intellisense Displayport to VGA adapter) some choices were not visible, probably low contrast. Using the up/down arrow buttons allowed me to see them when they were highlghted. Also there were three Displayport outputs, all seemed to work equally well. The third seems to be an optional install. I'm guessing these machines were used with financial terminals or something like that as they are aren't optimized for rendering but there must be a compelling reason for with three Displayport outputs. ... show more

  • Not a great experience
I have purchased a few other mini pcs like this one from Amazon with great luck. This mini computer showdown up DOA. When it turns on it will jot post, just a series of beeps and the power button light changes. After googling the beeps it was an error with either the power supply or the motherboard. I tried again with a known to be good power supply and got the same beeps and no post. Must be a damaged motherboard. ... show more

  • Can be coaxed into running Windows 11 [See UPDATE]
HARDWARE My unit came with a single 16GB MTA16ATF2G64HZ-2G6E1 (PC4-2666V-SE1-11). An identical 16GB module cost about $37 from Amazon and installed with no fuss. I was surprised to find some bonus hardware too: - An Intel 9260 wireless module. - A 2.5 inch disk caddy with hdd fan (but no rubber drive mounting screws). - A VGA card in the expansion slot. CPU I was expecting a Ryzen 2400GE, but received a 2400G. An upgrade, as I'm not trying to minimize power draw. WINDOWS 11 The unit came with Windows 10 Pro, which wouldn't upgrade to Windows 11 as the Ryzen 2400G CPU is not on Microsoft's compatibility list. (The 2000 series APUs have 1000 series Zen 1 CPU cores, rather than the Zen 1+ cores of the 2000 series CPUs). As Windows 10 is going end of life soon and a botched upgrade would still leave me the option of installing Linux, I decided to force a Windows 11 installation. 1. Download and mount ISO I downloaded the latest Windows 11 64bit ISO (disk image) from Microsoft's web site. I then mounted it (clicked on the .iso file), and the image was mounted as the "D:" drive. 2. I then typed "cmd" into the toolbar search box and clicked "Run as administrator" to launch a root shell window. 3. In that window I typed "D:\ SETUP.EXE /product server" to run the installer from the mounted ISO in server mode, which skips hardware checks. 4. Windows installation then ran as normal. 5. I installed the latest Radeon software to make sure that the APU's Vega graphics are supported in Windows 11. (Lack of Windows 10 Intel integrated graphics drivers prevented me upgrading my old Intel "Core" Dell machines from Windows 7 during the last forced upgrade cycle.) UBUNTU Once Windows 11 was installed, I plugged a 2.5 inch SATA ssd in the drive caddy and installed Ubuntu 24.04 LTS to it with no fuss. ISSUES I'd enabled the motherboard TPM module while trying to find ways to upgrade Windows, so drive encryption was somehow enabled. This meant that I was unable to boot windows from the grub menu on the SATA drive until I typed in the 40 digit recovery key from my Microsoft account. (Log in to your Microsoft account at account.microsoft.com/devices/recoverykey to see the key) SUMMARY A great mini desktop PC that's cheap due to the extra steps required to install Windows 11. UPDATE: After a couple of months' use I've started getting a boot message "There is a problem with the HP Endpoint Security Controller". I've changed a BIOS setting to continue booting after 15 seconds, but the beep and pause are annoying. Deducting a star for this and other frustrating problems with the buggy and inflexible HP "Sure Start" firmware. I've had reconditioned HP (Intel) business desktops before without this kind of problem. Not sure if the problem is due to this being an AMD pro CPU or HP has just jumped the shark. I got overconfident after getting this unit and bought an HP EliteDesk 705 G5 and the firmware there is materially worse, which points to there being an ongoing competency crisis at HP. ... show more

  • Looks almost brand new
For the purchase of 705 G4, since the reviews seems to be mixed together. Almost no cosmetic damage at all to the computer. Only found a little bit of dust in some cracks underneath the fan, otherwise completely clean, and all parts were what they were supposed to be. My listing came with a keyboard, mouse and a wifi/Bluetooth USB receiver. I wasn't expecting anything good, and I'm glad my expectations were that low because they're trash. The mouse has something heavy rattling around inside of it, sounds like it might be something important? I'm short on mice so I'll save it for emergencies if needed. The keyboard feels a little better, but still about the same quality. And finally, the wifi/BT receiver, Comfast brand, costs $2 from Temu from a quick Google search. It works, so no complaints there. May swap that out for another one at some point, but out of the box, you got yourself a working computer. ... show more

  • Nothing new about "Renewed"
First thing is they don't package the items securely. When I opened the box, the wifi antenna cover (number 1 on the diagram) was broken off and the antenna was exposed hanging on for dear life. I wasn't sure it was going to work and apparently, neither were they because they added a USB wifi adapter in the box. Not an ideal solution since it uses up a USB slot for something that's supposed to be onboard. Second, the cover for the video card slot is just tapped over with electrical tape. Third, the power supply looks like it was kicked around in gravel. That's not as big of a deal since it's just a power supply but, all of these things together had me wondering if I should send it back right away. I had to wait a day to get a monitor adaptor so my anxiety had fun with me while I'm looking at this mini PC. 2 stars for the stress, because it was a good price and is working OK right now but, with the condition it came in I'm not confident how long it will stay that way. If I was using it for anything more than running 1 program I would have sent it back. ... show more
