5-stars for sure - it's sleep, well-built, has a full-sized keyboard, lifetime Microsoft Office (make sure to decline the Office 365 sign-up/offer during set-up though) already installed, very crisp 17" screen, a crisp front-camera with privacy lens, not too bad speakers, and a good array of ports. To start, I am not a gamer, do not do social media and I don't use this for movies or entertainment. This is for work and business use only. Here are the good points: Is not touch screen. It is getting harder and harder to find a laptop without touch screen. Tablets need touch screens, laptops do not. Very thin but also built very well. No flex and hinges are tight with no play and yet easy to open/close. Battery life is very good. My useage is most plugged in but I have yet to run out of battery when I take it with me and not run off outlet. I would estimate well over 10 hours of non movie watching use. Recharged extremely fast. Screen is bright and easy to look at. I never use my laptops out in the sun so I can't say what it does outdoors, but my question is always why would I use it outside in the sun anyway? The keyboard has a great tactile feel to it and the key spacing and height are just right for me. It also has a separate numeric keypad which is a feature I demand in a laptop. With the SSD boot up and overall performance is lighting fast. This is my first laptop with SSD and I will be putting them in every other laptop I have. Unlike other reviews I read, I have not felt a y excessive heat at any time no matter the task. It always cool and I can't remember ever hearing the fan come on. If it has it is so quiet it can't be heard. The styling is the best I have had on any laptop I've owned. It simply looks and feels great. Now for the bad points: It is HP so that means 30 minutes of removing the bloatware and a little reconfiguring of certain features. I'm waiting for the day when I get a laptop from any company and when I turn it on is not branded with software I don't want or need, does not ask me every 3 seconds to sign up for some program or service I don't want, or asks me continuously to register. If I day no or decline, I mean it, not ask me later again and again. I want to turn the machine on, it has an operating system installed and that it all. I have my own software, I have my own subscription to office, and I don't want anyone telling me how to set my machine up. HP take notice. You make good hardware, but you seriously lack in the software department. Every piece of HP software I have used has caused major issues if it even works. Most of it is sales pitches to sign up for this or that. There is one major exception and that is the instant ink program for printers. That is the best thing since sliced bread. Never run out of ink, always ships I plenty of time and the cartridges are super capacity, I'd say 3x the retail version so they don't run low often or surprise you in the middle of a print job with an empty page. Shameless pitch for no charge. I have not found any other negatives in use so far. This laptop may not be at the top of the numbers heap in benchmarks but I always maintain that who cares? If the produce performs for me and does what I need it to do than it is a good product. This laptop does just that. It does everything well and without fanfare.     • Screen/Display Stopped Working

This is a review on not only the laptop, but HP. After having this laptop for only a month and a half, the display stopped working. All I could see was a completely black screen. I called HP since the product was still under warranty. We went through a series of tests on the device, over the phone. The representative stated that whatever had gone wrong is a common problem with this laptop. So, a Service Order was created. I was told they would have the laptop for 3-4 business days for the repair, then they would send it back to me. It has now been four days shy of a month that they have had my laptop, and I just received an email stating that there has been "Accidental Damage" that was deemed as "Customer Induced Damage." The email states that the repair cost will be $625.67. I reached out to HP again and filed a complaint because there was no damage to the laptop when I sent it in. I was asked if I had pictures proving that statement, which of course - I don't. I asked why, if there is damage to the device, it wasn't noted when they received the laptop. I was required to fill out a form upon sending the laptop to them, describing the issue and if there was any damage to the device. I would have thought they would have inspected the laptop upon receipt. Now, almost a month later, with no communication from HP during that time, they're telling me there is "Customer Induced Damage." That was four days ago. I have attempted to make contact with that representative every day since, with no luck. I have left messages each time, with ZERO response from him. HP still has my laptop and I am now four days past my return window. Luckily I bought the Asurion Protection Plan...but, I still can't get ahold of HP in order to get my laptop back. **Update 3/9/2021 - I finally got the laptop back and sent it straight to Asurion. That was two weeks ago. Asurion ordered the parts, but apparently the device is still not fixable. So, after all this time, thinking the laptop would be repaired, now I have to search for a new one. ... show more
