Description

In 1969, Douglas G. Howard set out to solve this dilemma: how can you eliminate blemishes in wood finishes and restore the original color and luster without removing any of the existing finish? Unable to find an answer at his local hardware store, he went to work in his garage to create his own product. His goal was to make something that would be much more than a surface treatment, yet nothing like a stripper or a refinisher. The key was to develop a formula that could clean and polish the surface, penetrate the finish with stain, and leave the original finish intact. The end result was Restor-A-Finish, Doug Howard's first in what would become a complete line of wood care products. For over 40 years, Howard's Restor-A-Finish has been a standard in the antique industry. Because Restor-A-Finish preserves the original wood finish it also helps preserve its authenticity and value, whereas stripping the finish may literally strip the piece of its value. Almost any existing wood tone, from a Birdseye Maple to a Jacobean, can be closely matched using one of the nine available finish colors. Trying it on just about everything with a traditional wood finish, antique dealers, refinishers, and homemakers have found it to be a safer and easier alternative to stripping and refinishing. Scratches, oxidation, white heat rings, watermarks, smoke damage, and sun fade simply disappear. • A miracle product, for realz
Size: 16 oz Color: Dark Oak
Dull wood, scuffs, water damaged wood, cr@p you bought off Craigslist for $10... This will make it all look FOINE👌 Pro tip: don't fuss about the color too much. It won't look off even if the shade isn't exactly right, as this is only very lightly tinted. If the wood is in really bad shape, here's what you do: 1) sand lightly with 0000 steel wool 2) apply this stuff with a rag and let it sit overnight 3) apply a wax, such as beeswax and buff ... show more

  • Real easy!!!!
Size: 16 oz Color: Golden Oak
I live in an apartment in NYC, when I moved in 6 years ago the floors had “just been refinished” in a gut reno but to be frank they were not great. I let way too long go by without addressing this with my landlord and the floors just got worse and worse. I didn’t want to have contractors in the apartment so I gave this a shot and I am NOT DISAPPOINTED!!! I should’ve gone one shade lighter but I think my floors have some more charm to them now. I did one coat of the restore and let it breath for a few days before topping off with feed and wax. They look and feel great!! Honestly, and it was so easy to do I was able to do the whole thing myself. The fumes weren’t bad at all and dispersed pretty quickly with an open window. I’m thankful to give my floors new life without having to sand them down and start all over! ... show more

  • Saved us a ton of money
Size: 16 oz Color: Walnut
We are redoing our master bath in a 1991 townhouse. All golden oak woodwork, everywhere. And the bathroom vanity is solid oak with space for two sinks. To replace it would have been custom cabinetry costing almost $1000. And probably not as good quality. I tested the finish, determined that it is varnish, and got to work. Using Restor-a-Finish is really easy. I wiped down the cabinets to remove dust and surface grime, applied the RAF as directed and went back over any rough areas with 0000 steel wool. It took about 45 minutes for the whole vanity and looked pretty good. Then the next morning, it looked fabulous. What goes on as a polish hardens into a glossy finish - some kind of magic! It looks like a new vanity. I did the drawers separately since they were in worse shape, and was able to finish areas that had never been finished. Even internal damage from water looked a ton better. I line them with plastic to keep them clean and avoid any stains. Now I plan to get started on all the woodwork in my house - banisters, door frames, kitchen cabinets, the whole place. I actually did my initial testing inside the kitchen cabinet, and now I want them all to look this good. Use disposable gloves and cotton shop cloths, and have a glass or disposable container to dip into. Toss all cloths and gloves, since they are flammable. But this was so easy and the results were better than they show online so you should not be nervous. Just match the color to your project and do a little test somewhere inconspicuous. ... show more

  • Literally Amazing
Size: 16 oz Color: Dark Walnut
This stuff is AMAZING! I will absolutely use it again in the future. We inherited a dining set from the 1940s and it was heavily damaged from years of canning on it's surface. With some sanding and this finish it's almost like new! The product increases the color of the wood and erases scratches!

  • don't understand all the good reviews and you can't return. Horrible product
Size: 16 oz Color: Golden Oak
This is a horrible product, nothing as advertised, the dark walnut is NOT dark at all - I am seriously questioning these "miraculous" pictures. The neutral is dark and didn't work on the light wood and the dark walnut was like putting nothing on the ring. These are going back - absolutely not as advertised. So hahahah Amazon can ship you flammable products but you CANNOT return flammable products. What a joke - waste of $20. ... show more

  • Works Miracles!
Size: 16 oz Color: Cherry
This worked crazy miracles for a cherished family heirloom coffee table that came to us beat up after nieces had mistreated it with water marks, heat marks, scratches going against the grain from improper cleaning an then later a nephew knocked a glass of red wine over it and it bleached the wood horribly. We almost got it professionally refinished which would have been a shame to lose the original finish. So, glad we didn't! This product restored it back to almost perfect condition. On the really bad areas I concentrated my scrubbing until looked as best I could get it. ... show more

  • Save your money and don't buy this
Size: 16 oz Color: Golden Oak
I admit I was swayed by the amazing photos other reviewers posted showing their "results" after using this product. However, this product may as well be labeled "snake oil" because that is exactly what it is. It does not work, plain and simple. Don't waste your money or your time with this product. Further, do not follow the instructions on the label to use steel wool on your wood. Steel wool, even the super fine, contains tiny steel fibers that break off and embed in your wood grain. Those fibers eventually rust, giving your wood a discolored appearance. You would think a wood products company would know this. It is also not a guaranteed product, which should also have been another clue to me not to buy it. TERRIBLE! ... show more

  • Disppointed with the results of this product-phone # for product support always busy
Size: 16 oz Color: Cherry
I bought this product to put on our kitchen cabinets after cleaning them. It was recommended by our realtor to make the worn parts of our cabinets look better. It made them feel gooey. I followed the directions exactly. They are so simple I am not sure how I could mess up. I thought well maybe it is the type of finish on the cabinets that made it feel gooey. I then put some on a cherry table and again followed the directions and afterwards I again disappointed with the results. You can feel this stuff on the wood. It does not soak in at all. I think it just sits on top and makes a mess. I got a soft cloth and wet it and rubbed the Howards off with some elbow grease. I was trying to cover some light marks. When I tried to call the number than Amazon gives you for product support it is always busy. ... show more
