Yes you do spend a little bit more. Yes you do get what you pay for. This product is of very high quality. German engineering is bar none with this product. The ball bearings are smooth and roll seamlessly. The rubber grommets on the outside are very durable. For I have missed a few times and thought I would cut through the rubber. That did not happen. The thickness of the abrasive that is put on the wheels is very thick and the backing is made of steel. It's about an eighth of an inch thick. The Walnut finish looks awesome. The magnet is the best. From the moment you pick this product up feel the weight of it in your hand. You know it is very well built and of high quality. The product is very durable and is made to last a lifetime. I have dropped it on the floor and not a problem at all. I know it's more money then most roller sharpeners. In this case you get what you pay for. You're paying for more but you're receiving it. Yes I would buy this product again. As far as the performance when resetting the angles yes it takes a little while. But once you have the correct angle on your knife when you do reshopening it's very fast. A couple of swipes on either side. You change the wheels to the finer grit if you bought that kit. Zip it back and forth hit it with the leather strap and it's as good as new. I love how compact it is. I love the magnet that holds the sharp knife place for safety. The last thing you want is that knife to get away from your magnetic base. It is the easiest way to sharpen your knives. I feel you cannot get any better performance from a roller sharpener.

I have bought more knife sharpening gimmicks than I would care to admit. Most woked fairly well with asterisks and some better than others, some requiring knowledge and a learning curve, some so complicated they are barely usable... I can honestly say this is the best combo of actually working, being easy to use, and nearly idiot proof of anything I have ever used. In about 20 min I managed to sharpen (touch up really) my whole knife block. These knives were not crucially dull but not razor sharp either. The next day my wife asked, "did you sharpen the knives?" This is remarkable since she has never noticed me sharpening the knives before (in 23 years of us owning a nice collection of knives). I can easily and honestly say that this is the best combo of easy to use and effective of any tool I have tried. Especially if you want to sharpen one or 2 knives without trotting out and bolting down a complicated set. Although this is great for anyone I can see it particulary great for a working chef who needs a touch up at work or a BBQ team needing something in a competetion. I will keep it in my cabinet and could envision learning in 15 years looking back that this was the last sharpener I have ever used. PS--I did not buy the special fine grit stones. I honestly cannot imagine ever needing them. The included stones shapen to about 100 on the Professional edge tester which is razor blade sharp. A chef's knife really does not need to be sharper than that and an edge sharper than that will likely just dull within a few chops anyway. Readers will have to take a leap of faith and trust me on that--it is plenty sharp without the special kit!

It is very relaxing- I was able to get a razor sharp edge in about 15 minutes. I ordered the 3000 and 6000 grit stones with the strop as well. The magnets are very strong and hold the knives firmly. It is priced a little high for some, but in this case, you get what you pay for. I highly recommend.

Super easy to use. Very well made. I also got the Japanese stone. (Sold separately). I admit I am a sharp knife snob. I have diamond and water stones that I use for my woodworking tools. I also used them on my kitchen knives. This system is bulletproof and repeatable. The only thing I advise is be patient the first time using it. Especially if your knives haven’t been sharpened regularly. Going from brick to razor will take 5 or 10 minutes. After that, a minute is all you need to restore the blade.

I purchased this because of all the hype around it and the tumbler. I want something simple and easy to just touch up my blades in between using my whetstones. If you have no idea how to use a whetstone, this is pretty good. It’s very easy to use and requires almost no setup. But…. Don’t expect that super sharp edge from just the included discs. It definitely did not cut paper thin slices from a tomato. If you have a wide blade, it’s a pain to sharpen. They tell you to balance the roller on something, but you just wind up having to sharpen your knife in segments. Not a fan of that. Overall it’s usable but just not for me.
