  • Perfect
I purchased a house in July. Now that it got cold and the heater was hooked up for the cold months, I noticed that the old Honeywell (horizontal) thermostat buttons didn't work very well (you had to push them really hard and sometimes they would get stuck so the temp would go up or down by itself because you had to push the buttons so hard - this must be common with age on these things because at the apartment I lived in before I bought my house, the same thing happened with that Honeywell thermostat, they replaced it and the new one lasted the 5 years I lived there without issue and was still doing great when I moved and that one was used for the heat and a/c). Anyhow, I wanted a vertical thermostat because that is what the home originally had, I also preferred to stick with Honeywell because that's the brand I am familiar with, and I wanted this particular style because it is just a simple straightforward thermostat, no bells and whistles that I didn't need or want (this one has heat on/off and up button to increase the heat, down button to decrease the heat, the screen shows the current temp at all times without the green backlight and when you push the buttons, the green backlight comes on for about 5-10 seconds and shuts off). The horizontal one that was installed looked horrible because they didnt fill the gaps above or below the thermostat. I purchased this one and it came fairly quick (about a week, I think) and it was rediculously easy to install (maybe 10 minutes and that is including patching the two screw holes they made to put the horizontal thermostat and painting the wall around the new one). There were only two wires for mine, so if you can match the white wire to the "w" and the black wire to the "b" on the back of the thermostat (and whatever other wires you have to the corresponding letter on the back of the thermostat), you should be good to go. It came with instructions, but I didn't even read them, it's one of those straight forward common sense things really. The heating and cooling place wanted to charge me $150 and when I told him that seemed a bit steep, he said he would do it for $90 to "help me out since I'm a single lady with no help". I bought this thermostat for $25 and helped myself out by saving $65 and I'm confident that as long as I don't push the buttons like the world is ending, then I should get at least 5 years of life out of it like I did with the one at my apartment, and probably much longer since this one is for heat only. ... show more

  • Edit: Check the Settings
See below for my initial experience. I installed this thermostat in my camper and used the stand settings for forced air. It turns out that it was calling for heat too frequently and would cause the camper’s heater to go into overheating protection mode and shut itself off. The thermostat would still be calling for heat and therefore couldn’t correct the issue. The heater wasn’t overworking itself but it was just getting called too frequently. To fix this I had to go in and change the settings of the max cycle rate to a lower number. This causes the temperature to swing lower between cycles and the heater to run longer instead of off and on in short bursts. —————————————————- I added this thermostat to my camper to replace a basic spring type thermostat. I installed the first one, which is very simple because there are literally only two wires. On the first trip out that we needed heat, I turn the thermostat on and all is good until about 2 am when we wake up and it’s about 50°F in the camper. I go check the thermostat and it knows it’s that cold but not kicking the heater on. But, if I turn it off and back on it starts working again. But, a few hours later the same thing happens. I replaced the batteries and had the same problem the next night. So, I returned it to amazon who sent me the same model as a replacement. That was in May. Well we didn’t need the heat all summer and on our last trip we turned the new one on. Sure enough 2 am or so rolls around and it stops working. Cut to me waking up about once every two hours to get up and turn the thermostat off and back on again. I’m outside of the return window now but won’t be replacing with the same model this time. ... show more

  • Easy hookup. Used to replace old mercury switch type. Nice & simple.
Directions a bit over complicated/ confusing, but easy common sense 2 wire hookup. Used to replace/ upgrade old type mercury switch in older home. I bought 2, one for each floor/ zone. No programming crap to deal with and simple 2 screw install. Both working well. Also has on/ off switch on side which is handy. Obviously turn power off at boiler first before hooking up. ... show more

  • Easy install
Wasn't sure of heating source setting as I have a boiler with baseboard heating loop. Went with default setting #5, seems to work just fine.
