    • A really good storage place for documents and small items.

Although I have read a number of reviews that reflected realistic concerns, the two Small Safe Boxes that I ordered arrived exactly as I expected them to. Yes, there was a dusty powder on them under the packing plastic...this is a residue from the powder coating that they have...it is easily wiped off. I did not experience any strange smells. The boxes are metal and have a bit of weight to them. If I add enough items to them, I fully expect that the plastic handle will fail. The handle should have been reinforced with a metal band or be made of leather or a more durable product. Overall, I can't speak to them being water or fire resistant....I didn't buy them for those qualities. They will definitely protect contents, if placed in a larger fire resistant/fireproof safe. As far as interior room, they have an interior that allows for small items. The egg crate spongy material at the bottom can be removed to add a little more depth, but not much. The locking mechanism is okay, but it is a single point closure. It won't prevent entry, but it will definitely deter someone from quick access. So value for cost, I think the price is okay. It can easily slide under a bed or dresser or into a closet for storage. ... show more

This is a great little safe lockbox for your home/office. You can use it for documents like birth certificates, social security cards, old ID's, extra set of car/truck keys, some cash for emergencies, a small notebook with all your computer logins & passwords etc. Understandably, the box has a little weight to it (similar to the weight of a gallon of milk), but the good sturdy handle makes it easy to carry. It's the width of a collage rule notebook.. but about 2 inches longer. After losing my social security card in a mandatory evacuation from a California fire, I decided I needed something better than the small box I was using to keep my documents in. The marketplace for small boxes for valuable documents, hard drives, etc. can be confusing. This box piqued my interest because of its reasonable price and the familiar "Honeywell" name. After unboxing it, I can say that I am impressed. One minor gripe: mine was delivered without discreet packaging (meaning, it was obvious I was buying a lock box). This is slightly concerning even though it's not on the level of a safe. But this may be of concern to some people, depending on where you live. The box itself has a great powder coat finish and its construction is solid. Nothing feels cheap. The lock is perfectly functional and smooth. Included are two keys and a booklet with instructions on how to purchase more. Finally, although this item is listed as "fire resistant", this isn't mentioned on the packaging. I have no way of telling if this item is fire resistant without potentially damaging it. My hunch is that it isn't, despite what it says on this listing. However, for me, this was not a major gripe because I wanted a durable lockbox where I could put my fire-resistant envelope with my important documents, hard disks, etc. Next time there is a fire or other disaster, I will have a nice, hefty box that I can carry out with me. Arrived fast, no dings or dents in the lockbox. Seems very sturdy but I can't say how the lock would hold up to forced entry attempts. I use mine to keep contained birth certificates, passports, social security cards, collectible coins, and some cash on a shelf inside of a large standing safe.
