Update -- I changed my rating from 3 to 5 stars. With the latest updates it's working really well. I'd still like to have more flexibility setting schedules and hope that'll be included in a future update. The positives: - Very easy to install. All three connected to my router with none of the issues described in many other reviews. - No problem using them with both Siri/Apple Home and Alexa/Echo. - Intuitive user interface - The iPhone app is generally reliable and intuitive (but not entirely...) Negatives: - There is only one set of four time periods per day that cover both heating and cooling. Because of variable electricity rates where the rate change happens at different times by season, we use different times for heating and cooling settings. This thermostat does not support that. I'm hoping for a software upgrade that allows the addition of more time periods. - There are occasional dropouts of connectivity with WiFi. So far they've re-connected on their own reasonably quickly. - The server the iPhone app connects to is occasionally unavailable and the app fails. This happens more frequently than seems reasonable. - The iPhone app does not refresh very quickly and there seems to be no way to manually refresh (by pulling down and releasing for instance). It's hard to tell it hasn't refreshed because it seems to behave normally. The only way I've found to force it to refresh is to kill and restart the app. - Occasionally I make a change on the app and it seems to accept it, but then it reverses to the original setting. There is no indication that a commanded change has or has not been accepted by the device.

I just got it installed, so we haven't lived with it yet. I like what I see so far. I bought this for 3 reasons: Our utility is offering a $100 rebate on upgrading to a smart thermostat and this one is on the list, so with the rebate it is costing me about $12 - good enough price point to dump my 8 year old touch screen programmable. 2. I was getting frustrated with the programming of the old thermostat, I couldn't get the program to match our life well enough. 3. The geo-fencing feature means that I don't have to be able to predict our days in advance, the thermostat makes it comfortable when we are actually home and saves money when we aren't. The smallest circle I could make is about a half mile radius (my wife works a mile from home). Some things I learned since I bought it. It is compatible with Google Assistant so you can control it with voice commands from your phone alone. I haven't gotten this to work yet, but it is supposed to. I may have to chat with tech support again. If you don't use the geo-fencing, you can program it manually 5 and 2, 5-1-1, each day separate, or all days the same. There are 4 time periods in the day; wake, work, home, sleep. If you are using Geo-fencing, then it has home, away, and sleep. You can also choose to not have a schedule and just make it the same temperature all the time and adjust it manually. Your router has to be on 2.4GHz. You have to have the C wire and it has to be connected to the thermostat and furnace or there is no power for the thermostat. Older systems didn't use the C wire (blue on standard 18/2 thermostat wire) so you might not have 5 wires to the thermostat. Some newer thermostats didn't use the C wire and used batteries to power the programmable part of the thermostat. It will automatically switch from heating to cooling, but it is a choice and the factory default is for that to be manual. It uses the internet connection to know the outside temp and humidity to anticipate the need for heat or cool. It displays on the app and I wish it displayed on the thermostat. The fan has settings for on, off, auto, and circulate (I haven't figured out what that is). You can control the thermostat with 4 different users, and each of them can have a different geo-fence circle. If you do have multiple users, each has to install the lyric app and create an account. The manual doesn't tell you this: when you first set up the thermostat, you do it from one phone. Then from that phone, you add the other users before they can connect to the thermostat from their app. If all the users are away, but someone is house-sitting, they aren't stuck with your away temperature. They can control the thermostat manually just by touching the screen. You can also set a vacation time by start and end date so it will stay on the away temperature 24 hours a day. You get an alert on your phone if you are away and the status changes. You can also set a notification for it to alert you if the temperature goes above or below limits you set, so you know if you have a power failure, or ran out of fuel. The T6 is essentially the same thermostat, but packaged and designed for new construction contractor installations. The T6 only comes in white, the T5 only comes in black. The Lyric round is the one that has the led lights that bathe the wall with a color to tell you what mode it is in.

I ordered my Honeywell RCHT8610WF2006 Lyric T5 Wi-Fi Smart 7 Day Programmable Touchscreen Thermostat, via Amazon Prime ($107.99 + tax + FREE shipping) on 8/15. I promptly received it 2 days later, as promised. Frankly, you can't ask for anything better than that! After turning off the circuit breaker to my air handling unit, I removed the old thermostat and its mounting plate and photographed my original thermostat's wiring scheme, As my home had more than sufficient wires available for use, installation of the Lyric T5 was a breeze following the included instructions. Once installed, and upon resetting the circuit breaker, the T5 immediately powered on and displayed "Honeywell", followed by "Start Setup". Setting up the device was a simple process, thanks again to the provided concise instructions. After choosing the option of using the (previously installed) Lyric cell phone app to complete the setup, all steps were clear and easy to follow. Note that it's important to know what type of heating your residence uses. After a quick call to my "A/C guy" and with answers in hand (heat pump & air-to-air), I was able to complete the T5 setup in a matter of minutes. Connection of the thermostat to my home network was established without issue...it was practically automatic. With the T5 setup completed, customizing the cooling/heating controls to our liking was simple. While in the end we elected not to activate the Geofence mode, I may decide to do that in the future. If so, I'll update this review at that time. In closing, I find the Honeywell Lyric T5 Smart Thermostat to be an extremely capable and cost-effective product. It's an attractive device that is simple to install and easy to setup. If my initial experience is any indication regarding the quality of this WiFi thermostat, whether it will perform as advertised only time will tell. For now, I am extremely happy with this purchase.

One, it is awesome this has geofencing, and for the most part it works well. There are times it does not register I am back into the house until I start the honeywell program up. Sometimes I have to start up the google maps as well before it registers I am home, but I feel like that is a different problem. Overall, it is a simple fix but kinda annoying. The thermostat is indeed smart, but not super smart, which is not something I needed. It is adaptable and tried to set up the temp so that it is comfortable by the time we need it, but admitably, the boiler system can take upto 2 hours to reach the new, higher, temp. I don't even hate that about my boiler as it is super high efficient unit from Navien and our bills are super low compared to when we had a oversized unit. (House is overall more comfortable too, without hot spots.) Getting off topic there though. So far, all I have used is the scheduling for the thermostat, and the geofencing, the thermostat tries to set the heating and cooling on it's own. I do wish the app had a better weather program with it, maybe hourly updates that could be tied into how the thermostat aims to warm a house paired with the data of the averages for warming the house at which times. I have seen a decrease in useage since using this thermostat. We had another one from honeywell, however, that unit was not as smart and using the scheduling was inconsistent based on temps outside the house, as at one point it could take 4 hours to get to temp, and others less as it got warmer outside. It used the same plate for hooking it up, and it was a easy exchange outside of the fact that I needed to rung a different line for the thermostat, seeing it didn't come with batteries and needed a common wire. Mind you even if it had batteries, you would benefit from the ability to use the comon wire setup as you would be able to stay connected longer allowing for better updates for the thermostat. When I got this thermostat, I got it for either 72 or 74 dollars, which suprisingly would have been the cost of replacing my non smart thermostat that came with my boiler. Now I can see that is no longer the price, but it was a good deal.

I have, in my life, learned ancient Hebrew. I have mastered the fingering of the Gigue from the 5th French Suite by Bach. I have raised six children and am now fighting cancer. But the most difficult thing in the world, bar none, is connecting this devilish device to the internet. It is easier to humble a proud man, fetch water from a stone, and call forth manna from heaven. No formula works, no magic words. You can beg, cajole, attempt the help-desk, all in vain. You will struggle through every screen on the cursed app, and it will end the same way. "Failed to connect. Please try again." This will continue for one to two hours. There is no way around it. I have now fought my way through 3 of them. It will continue until your patience is gone, your wife is concerned for your sanity and your children are hiding in the bedroom. But there is no way to shorten it. The penance must be paid, the troll in the app must be appeased, but no one will tell you the toll. Then, without any warning, after the Baal in the app is apparently appeased, you connect. There is no way to know what you did differently. There is no way to know which barrel of oil paid as a sacrifice worked. You simply put in the time and the sweat and the tears sufficient for a sacrifice, and the gods were appeased. You must go through it again with the next one. Over and over again. In this day, you would think that the Honeywell corporation could figure out how to connect a thermostat to a phone. Lots of other companies can. Please do not buy this product. It will drive you to madness. And, for the sake of all of the gods, do not, under any circumstances, buy three of them. I will see you in bedlam. Update: Day 12. The network fails to see the thermostat. Again, I always get to the point where it says, "Success! Contacting Honeywell". And then failure. You call the helpline. They are sorry for the inconvenience, but they are unable to register new Lyric Thermostats at this time. 12 days. They still can't register new thermostats. Apparently there is no way to use the product without registering it. And you can't register it because they hired SpongeBob SquarePants as a Web Engineer. Nothing else makes sense. So I try tech support. They are sorry for the inconvenience. My call is very important to them. The next available agent will be with me shortly. I have not yet found the appropriate sacrifice to warrant a response from the gods of this horrible machine. To paraphrase King Henry, "Will no one rid me of this turbulent thermostat??" UPDATE I am not so self-absorbed as to actually believe that there are people who have been anxiously awaiting the outcome of my ongoing battle with the gods of the Honeywell thermostat, but writing about it amuses me. That might be self-absorption, but it is of a different kind. Day 13 - I have achieved success! The right sacrifice has been found, the formula has been entered correctly, the combination has been stumbled upon. Of course, no one can tell me what the right formula was. It was simply that I went through the steps enough times for enough days and the code has been unlocked. It is a dubious achievement. I spent 13 days of hard labor, countless hours, pleading on the help-line, who assured me repeatedly that my call was very important to them, and that the next available agent would be assigned to my problem. I very much hope that the next available agent is OK. Perhaps this nameless agent has been in an accident and is now recovering. Perhaps this agent is stuck in an airport somewhere, desperately seeking a flight home. Perhaps this agent is building a home for some homeless person somewhere and was unable to take my call at this time. He is, though, sorry for the inconvenience. There could be many reasons. I was running them through my mind....Stuck in traffic in Beijing? Trekking the Andalusians? Walking the black beach of Iceland? Or, perhaps this agent is also on the phone, waiting for the next available agent. Whatever it is, I do hope that they are OK. I did not have to time to wait out whatever drama was happening in the life of the Next Available Agent. I hope that they have not been murdered in their sleep or tied up in a kidnapping attempt, or shipped mistakenly to a far-away place with an odd sounding name...As I hung up the phone in futile resignation, I felt somewhat as if I had walked out of a murder mystery right before the detective revealed the culprit... I think that I shall write a book about the adventures of the Next Available Agent.... At any rate, as I was wondering about the fate of the Next Available Agent, I was granted access to the hallowed halls of connectivity! I am now online, having, as I previously mentioned, worked tirelessly to achieve new heights of laziness with the ability to turn on the thermostat without arising from my chair... There's a lesson there somewhere... Prepare to hear about it in a sermon sometime.

I was a little hesitant about buying this product after reading some of the negative reviews about wi-fi connectivity, but am very glad I did. The installation instructions are detailed and very clear. I had no problem with connecting to our wi-fi network and the Honeywell app worked very well on my iPhone. It did take a bit of time to complete some of the steps, but I think that has to do with a small microprocessor. There's a nice feature in the menu on the app that lets you add other users very quickly, so my wife has her own account and can control the thermostat with her phone. I didn't set up geo-fencing because it seems a bit impractical unless you live alone or commute together, though I imagine you can override it if you're the one at home. It comes with screws and drywall mounts and if I did it again I'd have drilled a pilot hole to see what was behind the sheetrock. Turned out the contractor put a board between the studs and I didn't really need the drywall mounts. It's really nice to be able to control the thermostat with a phone. Pre-pandemic at our old house we had one that had phone control and were on a February trip to the Yucatan peninsula. Warm and sunny and snowing in Portland. Bumped the temperature up on a layover and the house was toasty when we walked in the door. So far I've only used this one when I wake up before "Awake" on the schedule, but it's nice to turn up the temperature from under the covers. Plus, it's got a nice, clean minimalist look to it.

I was hesitant to buy the product because of many negative reviews that it didn't work, couldn't get it setup, etc. However, on couple sites, I saw it as one of the best smart thermostats at a decent price and decided to give it a try. Yes, it does require a C wire - if you are not sure what it means, it would help to check with your HVAC guy. Installation guide has also a method without using a C Wire (using Green wire for C Wire purposes), but then you loose the ability to control fan without Furnace/AC, if you want to run the fan only for example...Your furnace board needs to be able to support the C Wire connection regardless. The problem with the newer, more feature rich thermostats is that they need more power than just when the furnace/AC is on + couple AA batteries to keep the wifi connection and bigger/nicer displays, etc. C Wire provides that additional power from the furnace... I had a 4 wire (18-4) running from thermostat to furnace. Since I plan to stay in this house for the long haul and wanted to do it right, I bought the 18-5 thermostat cable (18 gauge each - 5 wires) and ran the new cable from thermostat to the furnace and removed the old cable. Connected to the furnace and to the thermostat all in less than 45 minutes. Turned on the power, followed the instructions to install the honeywell lyric app, connect wifi, setup the daily schedule from the app and furnace turned on within couple of minutes like nothing ever happened. Very happy with the setup and thermostat so far... Update 7 months later - still very happy with the product, buying a 2nd one for my 2nd furnace/ac...

Revised review 5/8/18 After a long discussion & troubleshooting session with Honeywell tech support I completely reset the thermostat to factory settings, deleted & re-added the skill and device to my Alexa app and restarted my wifi modem & router. It took several attempts to get it back up & running, to get geofencing working, & get Alexa to recognize it. I also received a Honeywell Lyric App update that same week. Since doing all that, my Honeywell Lyric T5 has been noticeably more reliable & stable. Geofencing is working perfectly and the thermostat only went offline once in a 7 day period and reconnected itself!! Which wasn’t happening before. So far so good. I’m crossing my fingers that the Honeywell Software Engineers have figured out a fix with the last app update. We shall see. If it jeeps performing this well going forward, I will give it 5 stars again. Revised review 4/30/18 The thermostat disconnects from Wifi every other day. Total headache. I don’t know why it’s happening more now than before. Previously it would only disconnect once or twice a month. Everytime it happens, it requires a FULL factory reset to get fully working again, with geofencing etc. I’ve spent hours with customer service/technical support. While the support staff is wonderful, the product is not. They insist it’s my router or wifi signal. But from reading the many other reviews I can see that’s not the case. There is a serious software flaw with this device. Do not buy it until it gets fixed. Excellent thermostat at a great price! (About half the cost of a comparable Nest thermostat) The best aspect has been the customer service. The technical support was above & beyond my expectations. They took time to eyvaluate my HVAC unit, including looking at photos I emailed them, and gave me perfect step by step wiring assistance, including help connecting a “C” wire. Which was so easy. (Or workarounds in case you don’t have an extra wire). The thermostat works flawlessly! I especially love the Geofencing feature and its ability to be controlled by Amazon Alexa. The system has been very reliable so far, only once getting disconnected with my Amazon Alexa, unlike some other “smart” wifi devices that lose their connection with Alexa often. I also like the sleek, black & grey design. Overall an excellent choice in the smart thermostat market!
