  • lacking cooling power
Cannot even keep my tiny bedroom to 70 degrees F even when it's only 85 degrees outside and this is supposed to be a 14,000 BTU unit and the most expensive one on the market. It's being returned by me summarily. Might also be a defective product that somebody else returned and the seller tried to stick it on me without even opening it up and inspecting it. The box was heavily taped up on the bottom because the bottom cardboard piece was missing. The nylon bands around the carton were also missing All the styrofoam packing inside was busted up. It doesn't seem like a brand-new unused unit from the assembly line the way is was packed so sloppy. A few bad design things: the blower fan is quite weak for the cooling vent. Not nearly as powerful as my older LG unit with a large front square vent. That pop-up top vent does not blow directly forward. I have a high window sill in my bedroom so the hoses weren't long enough without having to put the unit up on a table or cement blocks. This even directs whatever cool air there is even closer to the ceiling instead of me done on my bed. I don't see why anybody can't market a dual-hose unit with a powerful blower fan and a large cooling vent directly in front the way some single-hose units are designed. I wanted to try a dual-hose unit for energy efficiency and since I live in SW Oklahoma where its very hot and humid, single-hose units only draw more hot/damp air into the house due to back pressure. It's a double uphill battle and my landlord won't let me hand a window box unit out the window being this is apartment. Apartment dwellers seem to need and lack a truly superior and effective portable aircon these days. No portable aircon manufacture has truly stepped up to the pump yet. ... show more

  • Two ducting systems for condensing portion of the unit.
One of the better types of portable AC units you can find on amazon. I have been doing hvac work for over ten years now. If you want to install a central heating/cooling system, a mini split, or a regular window unit you would be better off and it would more efficient. But if you are in the circumstance that I'm in and do not have any of the above options avalible this will be one of the better options for you on amazon. First of all the major problem with most probable AC units is that the unit uses your room's air to expell heat from its condensing coil which is terribly inefficient and also sucks air out of your room and blows it outside causing negative air pressures. This unit has two ducts that uses outside air to exchange heat from its condensing coil and blows everything outside keeping your rooms conditioned air inside and the hot outside air out. Of course with the ducting provided there will be some unwanted air leaking into your room, but most other portable units will use conditioned air and blow it outside negating everything the unit is trying to do in the first place. Think of it this way, most probable cooling units will cool a room. But it will also suck that cold air it produces and blows a portion of that air outside to transfer heat from its condensing coil. This is why most probable AC have such a bad reputation. The unit itself cools pretty well, it gets the job done. I've been comfortable on 90 to 120 degree days. It's sort of loud while the compressor is running, but the mechanical humming is soothing to me. Price wise you can get a mini split or window unit for less if those applications suit you. But overall spending an extra $100-$200 for that extra duct is well worth the price. ... show more

  • Auto-evaporation? This unit put out 5-10 gallons of water a day.
I bought two of these units. One works fine and hasn't produced any water. The other unit is producing 5-10 gallons of water a day. Good thing I was able to set it up with a drain into a 5 gallon jug. I am seriously thinking of returning it. I can't leave it running unattended. Very disappointed. I purchased these units one month apart. The first one has an older style display on it's front? It is this unit that is not functioning properly. Buyer beware. ... show more

  • Works well for our needs!
We had to prop it on a small bench since the hose could not reach the window when placed vertically. I didn't notice until after my purchase that the hoses were always pictured horizontal, so this is my fault. Delivery was delayed but not too bad. The machine works well but it is rather loud but not unreasonably so. We will need to get use to the noise. The temperature light stays on so if you are sensitive to light while sleeping, you will need to cover the lights. So far we are please with our purchase and it does cool the room quickly! I would recommend this air con. ... show more

  • This AC Unit Needs Constant "Diaper Changes"
This unit is infuriating! It collects water and that water needs to be drained FREQUENTLY. I installed mine on a Sunday night and it shut down before I could finish watching the movie I'd started. So I read the manual and it said that the machine shuts off when it needs to be drained. So I drained it and turned it back on. Not more than 60-90 minutes later, it shut down again because it needed to be drained. This happened three times before I went to bed. I didn't bother to use it overnight, because I knew it would shut down in the middle of the night. The next day, I turned it on and started my day and again, it needed to be drained after an hour of usage. Operating this AC unit is akin to having a newborn baby that needs diaper changes like clockwork. Also, if the thing has to be drained, you'd think they would've designed it so that the draining could be done easily. Not so, you have to use a shallow pan (think cookie sheet) to collect the water and it requires about 3 trips to the sink to pour it out. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! I'm returning this very expensive piece of junk. ... show more

  • Expensive but very efficient.
I've used portable air conditioner for the last 10 years but never a dual hose unit, this is the way to go. Super efficient in cooling the space. It uses the air from outside to cool the compressor instead of using the conditioned air inside the space your trying to cool and dumping it outside. I don't know the impact on my electricity bill but I know that I have to run this unit half the time I'd run my old one hose unit. Worth the extra money ... show more
